Inspired by Sam Kolder's latest drone video (thank you). First time creating Adobe masks with not a lot of flight footage due to the bad weather (flooding and storms); 8 lipos/1 location/ 1 long phone call from my mum 😊 Had lots of fun making this and went for a fpv freestyle drone video cinematic feel at 24FPS. Hope to make another video if we get another dry day in the UK this year! Edit: This was written before the Covid 19 (Coronavirus) outbreak 😞

Caddx Turtle V2 settings in past descriptions and Adobe Premier Pro used with the following colour adjustments:
Exposure - 0.5
Contrast + 40%
Highlights - 20%
Shadows -+ 30%
Whites - 25%
Blacks - 10%
Saturation 30%

Found another great new spot for some close proximity fpv flying. It gave me a chance to test out the Lumenier AXII Long Range Antenna on my goggles for penetration. There were far too many people around to test long range today but the new long antenna is a great improvement over the stock anttenna, especially as I sit down to fly.

Too funny - the sound from the microphone on the Caddx Turtle always sounded like a harsh scream when powering up the Armattan Gecko . I didn't realise a real-life Gecko sounded so similar when it screamed! 😆

Not much time to fly but when I do wtih my favourtie 3 inch quad and a dedicated fpv camera like the Caddx Ratel it is such a pleasure. I have played with render settings have have settled on as it makes for a more pleasing 'cinematic flight' so I'll think I shall stick with this for now; all comments welcome.

I don't think I will be rushing to buy a CaddxTariser just yet. I think the Caddx Ratel coupled with a Turtle (if you already have one) may beat buying a new Tarsier. No HD footage for a change but the image captured from the goggles is good enough in low light.

This was my first day flying with the Ratel Starlight camera and I got stuck in a tree with my first lipo. After 5 hours I managed to get it back with some rope and a stick but I just about found the energy to fly a couple of lipos after sunset and before total darkness. Great to have a dedicated FPV Camera especially as I've been flying a lot with the Caddx Turtle lately. it makes such a difference to be able to see in low light and have no latency issues!

Personally , I feel the stock footage is great for visibility in the shadows and makes the early evening feel like daytime; great for Golden Hour flights. Amazingly the footage from my old TopSky Prime 1S Goggles is really good and better than the image produced by my trusty VRD2-Pro Goggles (Topsky sent me a new board to rectify the receiver issue).

TURN ON SUBTITLES FOR COMMENTARY

Test of New Caddx Turtle Special Glass Lens and ND Filter (N8)

I had a lovely day flying in the sun among trees with leaves for the first time this year. It was the perfect opportunity to test out the new Caddx Turtle Special Glass Lens and ND Filter from Caddx.us. I am unsure how this compares to the Runcam Split Mini Glass Lens.

I also got to practise some smooth close proximity with a few new trees without fear of hitting any ghost branches. For want of a better name and until I'm corrected my new move is called the 🌳 "Canopy CorkScrew" 🌳 !! It's funny how I seem to automatically follow the same lines when looking back at footage of the day's runs.

My last Caddx Turbo Eye Lens got scratched a few weeks ago so I had to wait to receive my glass lens which hopefully will be more resilient. On first look the Caddx glass Lens is definitely an improvement on the Caddx plastic lenses. There is less need for any colour grading and the image seems much clearer. I did to bring the colours out a little on this video.

When fitting the ND Filter (N8) to the glass lens I had to use some BluTak as it's not a perfect fit. However, the ND Filter stayed on all day despite my crashes. The ND Filter takes away some of the glare and reduces the sharpness a little to...Continue Reading

🐢🐢🐢 Frozen Caddx Turtle Issues 🐢🐢🐢

Not been flying lately apart to sort out some random black screen issues with my Caddx Turtle V2. However, I think I have found the cause of the problem. It appears to be the black plastic spacers I use to mount the Caddx Turtle are too large for the board. They push against various components on the board and when these are out of place they can cause the camera to display a black fpv screen with osd. There are many people that have this issue. I have resolved mine temporarily by removing 2 of the spacers from the top of the board. We shall see how long this works.

Apart from that.....some days the fingers don't seem to be working ! They warm up and then freeze again. Just a quick video to remember some of the uncool and funny moments. As nice as they are none of these images made the final cut.

The latest firmware now is January 2019. Image quality and settings are unchanged and Caddx have adopted their UART protocol to one of the protocol versions that Runcam has. If so - you should connect the RX and TX pads on your Turtle V2 to unused UART Tx and RX pads on your FC. Then configure accordingly in the Ports tab in BF. I still think this footage is better than the output of the Runcam Split Mini 2 . It's not quite as good as as a Go Pro but at least as good as the Foxeer Mix; what fpv hd camara do you think is best?

Note to self - Don't be lazy and try to re-arm after a big crash! Wanted to thrash 3" Props at altitude in 4:3 for the first time and what a rush !!! Lost a prop nut and prop in the process after thinking I had a lucky escape. Got my wings clipped :-) Anyway the Caddx Turtle V2 survived as well as the quad so all is good. Still loving flying in 4:3 rather than 16:9!

I had a scare when my Caddx Turtle V2 stopped working after a slight crash into some wet grass. It froze on the splash screen but after drying for an hour it worked again. Unfortunately, it has happened since but worked again when drying out. I hope this doesn't shorten the life of my camera 😮

After a terrible start I am finally getting some use out of my TopSky Prime! They are not perfect but for me they are a slight upgrade (only in the sun) from my Eachine VRD2 Pro Box Goggles. Most importantly I love the feel of two screens rather than one and flying in 4:3 rather than 16:9.

For some reason I can see detail much better with the TopSky Prime s1 than the box goggles but they are still definitely beginner fpv goggles (less pixels). I have no problem with focus as I have flipped the lenses (link rcg) but do think I will upgrade to a...Continue Reading

Initial Review from flying with the TopSky Prime S1 Goggles for a couple of hours after using a set of Eachine Goggles for 10 months.

Overall, a frustrating day but there is hope in sight once TopSky release a production version ! This is not that version !

I have written to TopSky and am awaiting a response!!

TOP TIPS (focus):

Topsky Prime 1s diopter mod : focus issue solved for me
I taped the battery to the outside of the goggles so the diopters would slide the screen all the way back

Lens Flip: If removing the battery is not enough then you can flip the lenses with a flat head screwdriver

Footage taken just before total darkness I was testing the latency and the Caddx Turbo Eye. It isn't that scientific and there was more smoke than fire but I could actually see much better in the goggle than through my eyes

I am not sure how much the latency affects my flying. Perhaps I could see more in the evening than in the daytime sunlight as the fpv feed is quite 'washed out' compared to a dedicated fpv camera.

Edit: It may be the sensor rather than the Caddx Turbo Eye lens that gives the 'weird lens effect'
