After months and months of pre-announcement teasing pictures, Pilot-RC joined the 1/5 scale composite P-47 market, along with TopRC Model & CY Model and launched their P-47D 1/5 scale model kit! https://pilot-rc.com/p47d-1-5-94-9-2-41m/
The online pictures and demo video posted on pilot-rc.com looked like significantly more scale detail than the TopRC Model P-47 which I already own. That, plus a very positive previous Pilot-RC build, flying and support (e.g. parts availability) experience tipped the scales so I sent a few notes to Chief Aircraft to look into getting on the list.
No response from Chief, then I noticed a on the Pilot-RC FB page announcing their new US distributor, Tailslide Aviation in FL. www.tailslideaviation.com so I reached out to them. Night & day difference! Immediate response, all questions answered and models in stock! Decided to place order for a 'scheme 02' engine ready version.

As a current Moki S250 owner I decided to try the new Black Star 5-250v3 for my new Tomahawk Wilga project. The specs look good on paper, turns the same props and my buddies new UMS 5-125 sounds awesome!
Tomahawk offers both the airframe and the engine and as a top tier RC company, they product parts, service and warranty so I figured I’d give it a go. Also, I’m very excited to get it fired up to compare the sound!

Virtually the second this plane was announced, I jumped on the pre-order list! Big bush plane - yes please! Being from Pacific Northwest, I’m very partial to bush planes and have thoroughly enjoyed the Hangar 9 1/4 scale P/A-18 Super Cub (both gas & EP), Hangar 9 DHC-2 Beaver (gas & EP) and the 1/5 scale Carbon Cub (gas).
Most of the build list went together quickly and includes:
- Servo (aileron/Elev/Flaps): Savox 1258TG
- Taildragger RC servo extensions
-Rudder: Hitec HS-7956HR
- Rudder: Savox 1231SG
- LED system: Electrodynamics (Nav/anti-collision, wig/wag landing, beacon)
- IFlytalies instrument panel
- PR Bushwheel struts
- PR Bushwheel 8.75” (222mm) Tundra
- Air Top 200mm (7.87”) Tundra - Summer tires
-Jeti Duplex R10 Rex Assist
-Jeti Duplex Dual Mag Switch
- Jeti Central box 200
- (2) Jeti Duplex EX R3/RSW 2.4GHz Receiver

The hard part was power selection. Spent the better part of 2 months going back & forth between short list:
1. Saito FG-61TS
2. EME 70 twin w/auto-start
3. 12S EP setup
Finally pulled the trigger on the Saito...beautiful engine although twice the price of the 2-stroke gas and EP. Should sound more scale which is important to me :-)
Now that the engine is sorted, added a few things to the list
- RotoFlow - 16 ounce
- Tech-Aero Ignition BEC
- JC Super XCub prop
