After a winter full of converting my brushed E-Flite and Parkzone UMX and UM planes to brushless motors, I was in desperate need for some Depron dust, so here we go:

Number 73 is a kit from Micromodeldrome, the TA-4 Skyhawk.

Length is 517mm, wingspan 350mm, AUW is 85.2 grams, wing profile is a Jedelsky one, all build from 3 and 6 mm Depron.

The kit itself is quite simple done, with only a few parts, but plenty of sanding involved

For glue I used my favorite, Uhu Por, great for Depron.

Used electronics are RX/ ESC, 2 servos and EDF unit from a E-flite Habu, plus 2 1.9 gr Servos (HK5330) from Hobbyking for the ailerons.

Originally, the plane is supposed to be controlled by elevator and aileron only, but I added the rudder as well, as it took only another servo to do so. Another thing I added are fake intakes, just for looks.
I added a removable landing gear and reinforced the wing with some parcel strap and tape, just to be on the safe side.

Wow, it's been a while, this was more of a RTF summer, than one building my own stuff...

Anyway, here is number 72, the biggest wingspan on my scratchbuilds so far, 92 cm.
AUW is 168 grams, a 6A ESC, two servos and RX from hobbyking, motor is one from Eflite, the 2300kv I think, as the sticker (and the noise of the 2500kv) is missing.
Battery is a 2S 950mah (same as the one used in the Blade 200QX), which gives me a flighttime of 20 to 25 minutes.
Prop is a 5030 from GWS. All build from 3 and 6 mm Depron, with some carbon in the wing for strengh, wing profile is a KFm 3.
On the bottom is a insert attached with magnets, that can be replaced with one containing a camera, like a Mobius or a #16.

It's a smoooooth flyer, with no really bad habits, apart from oversteering, as the control throws need to be rather small. And best of all, it can glide for ages...

Number 71 is a little wing that is done as a TLAR-plane.
Wingspan is 380 mm, AUW is 60.2 grams with a 2S 300mah battery, RX/ESC is an AR6400LBL, motor a Eflite 2300kv, prop a GWS 4025, airfoil is a KFm3, made from 3 and 6 mm Depron.

It flys fast, is really agile, is nice and quite (if you don't want much attention) and handles crashes with ease, so I made this one of my travel planes.

If you think, that my Nano-Nutball was small, than look at this, a Pico-Nutball!

Build with 2 mm Depron, gear is from a Mini-Vapor, diameter 150 mm (5.9 inches), weight is 10 grams on the spot, prop a GWS 3020 (I might try a UM J3 Cub one, for more thrust). I left off wheels, as I'm not a indoor flyer with smooth floors, so they are pointless on a plane that small (plus they add weight )

It flies, even in light wind, very stable, but twitchy as hell, I might try a big amount of expo...

Number 69 is another kit, this time the Sweetdream, from

A very straight forward and easy build, with a lovely plane at the end. The only thing that I've changed is the power train, as I can't stand those brushed motors.
My solution is a tail motor of a MCP-X BL, in a UM gear box, with a 7A YGE ESC on 1S. Prop is a GWS 5030.

Doesn't like wind, but otherwise a nice flying plane, smooth looking starts and landings are a piece of cake to do.

The pilot is not done yet, as I'm waiting for an inspiration.

Number 68 started off as a complete failure, I was trying to build a tailless disk similar to this one.

To sum it up, no matter what I did, it wouldn't fly even remotely stable, so I gave up. The airframe was still fine, so I decided to remove the drag rudders and add a (removable) rudder.

Now the plane is agile like hell, loops around a mosquito's bum.
In other words, FUN!

Diameter is 340 mm, AUW 79.9 grams, rx/esc an AR6400LBL, 2500kv motor, E-Flite 5x2.75 prop, made from 3 and 6 mm Depron, airfoil is a KFm4.

Number 67 is just another Nutball. But for my standards, it's BIIIIIIG!

600 mm diameter, 308 grams AUW, made from 6 mm Depron, airfoil is a KFm 2, mostly for toughness.
Motor is a HK bluewonder with 1300 kv, prop a GWS 8040, 4.3 grams servos from HK, RX is a AR6200, 12 A ESC from HK, battery a epower 3s with 1300mAh.

It flys like a nutball flys, 'nuff said.

Yesterday, I received the brushless upgrade-set for the NanoCP, and as I'm not really a heli-guy, I wanted to use that set on a little plane.

First, I considered converting one of my old UM planes from Parkzone, but then my eyes fell on one of my old builds, number 7, a Cootie from Ralph Bradley, with plans drawn by Ken Spencer (love that plane, guys).
The original plane is a bit small for that motor, so I sized it up to 120 percent.
Windspan is 390 mm, AUW is 25.6 grams.

Build with 1 and 1.5 mm carbon rod, 3 mm Depron, UM Mustang wheels, and a shopping bag.The prop is from a Blade 120SR. An AR6400 is controlling the whole thing. That's sadly a bit of a waste, as this plane only uses throttle and rudder.

The maiden flight showed clearly a completely overpowered plane, 1/3 throttle is more than enough to cruise around, 1/2 will take it smoothly up.

Number 65 is another kit, the Puddlebug, available from Stevens Aeromodel, that I have bought what feels like ages ago.

Wingspan is 450 mm, AUW is 37 grams. The big difference to the original plans is the used motor, a AP03 with 7000kv, and a smaller prop, a GWS 3020 (I will try a bigger on, once it's warmer outside, in the moment, the little batteries suffer big time) plus a 3A ESC from HK.

This plane is fun to build, especially if one is used to Depron, thin balsa is a bit of a challenge if you not used to it, IMHO.

The name is a bit misleading, Puddlesnail would be more matching, this plane can fly SLOW!!! I have been trying to get it to stall, but nothing so far. There are no bad habits at all, it just doesn't like wind.

This time, it's build from a kit, just for a change.
It's a Triton from Ken Spencer (thanks for a great design, Ken!), available at BSD Micro RC.
Wingspan is 405 mm, AUW 38 grams, motor is a AP03 with 7000kv, prop a GWS 3020, 3A ESC from HK.
The wing and battery hatch are attached with magnets.
This plane is a tame flyer, and can glide forever, if the COG is set right.
I haven't tried it on water yet, and there seems to be no snow here this winter (lousy excuse of a winter this year *grumble*), but it loves wet grass for a sliding landing.

Number 63 is a modified Firefly, with dual rudder, but only elevon controlled.
All 3 mm Depron, KFm2 airfoil, motor is a AP03 with 7000kv, prop a GWS 4025, servos and ESC from HK. Wingspan 400 mm, AUW is 46 grams.
A nice and docile flyer, with no bad habits at all. WOT is not too fast, and it rolls like a drill bit.

Yeah, first plane this year, so there's a new color for the name and number, this year, orange is en voque.

This one is a Nano-Nutball, Diameter 188 mm, AUW 20.5 grams, AR6400 clone, motor is a AP02 with 7000kv, GWS 3020 Prop, 3A ESC from HK, all 3 mm Depron, landing gear of a NightVapor, tailgear is a former CC.

Just done the maiden before it gets too dark, and it's a surprising docile flyer if there's no wind.

Number 61 is a slotball, 340 mm diameter, KFM2 airfoil, E-Flite 2300 kv motor, GWS 5030 prop, micro rx and 1.9 gr. servos from HK, epower 6A ESC, AUW 77 gr., 3 and 6 mm Depron.

A while ago, I was inspired by Otto Dieffenbachs post about the little witch, based on a plan by Thomas Schunk. I have done a 50% build of it, number 52.

Problem with it is, that it's very fragile and horrible to transport, even worse in public transport, which is my prefered kind of travel here in Zurich, Switzerland.

So I sat down, and made a witch held together with magnets.

E-Flite 2500kv motor with a GWS 4040 prop, micro rx, 1.9 gr. servos and 6A esc from HK, all made from 6 mm Depron.

Those witches, once trimmed properly, are able to fly surprisingly slow.

Busy, busy, busy...

Number 59 is a improved version of Dynamic Foamys Acies6400 profil jet, a very nice flyer, even if you build it as intended.
Motor is a E-Flite 2500 kv with a GWS 4040 prop (I will try a 5030 soon), AR6400LBL rx, reinforced nose and lower fuselage plus plenty of tape to stiffen up the plane.

It's me again

I was cruising around in rcgroups, and I stumbled over the "bearded clam". What can I say, I liked the design idea, and was planing to do a v-tail since ages, so I started building.

Diameter 340 mm, weight 105 grams with a 2s 450 mah battery, E-flite 2300kv motor, AR6400NBL rx, servos 1.9 gr from HK, 3 and 6 mm Depron.

As I already said, I'm a BIG fan of micros, and I'm really fond of a particular plane, the Nutball (thanks so much for it, Goldguy!).

It's made from 3 mm Depron, Diameter is 340 mm, KFM-2, weight 70.5 grams, electrics and maingear is of a original UMX Sbach, tailwheel is a former main of an UM Mustang, prop a 5030 from GWS.
It's got unlimited vertikal, and is agile like a squirrel on speed.

Those are my (in the moment) actively flown (scratch)builds, the rest is in storage.

You might have noticed that I just loooove micros, as they are easy to store, even if you have a big number of them...

At the bottom, second from the right, is my newest build, a 340 mm diameter jetball, my 56th succesfull flying scratchbuild.
