Here is a video of my son and I playing around at this past weekends Fun Fly and Drive. They were wondering if a skate park is a good place to drive and it is. They are going to have this every Sunday at the Wyoming Valley Sports Dome from 3 to 9 this summer for only $10 a driver/pilot.

Time Flys Hobbies Fun Fly and Skate Park Drive @Wyoming Valley Sports Dome (3 min 5 sec)

I couldn't come up with a good reason for a brushless upgrade....until now.

Also all of our AMA cards have come in the mail. Myself, my daughter and my son are all now card carrying members.

I have been trying to wire the front mast the kids Bristol Bay since Easter with no luck. I finally went online and clicked the tech alert at the top of the product page. That took me to http://www.aquacraftmodels.com/techs...qub60tech.html, which showed me how to wire the front mast. That front hatch doesn't feel like it should pop off and on, but it does. I can't wait to get this thing on the water, especially at dusk.

I wish I had video of my Nano 3" underwater too, but amazingly no RC planes, wings or helis were harmed yesterday. Everything is back in the air.

It was windy in the AM, but then the afternoon came I was was with the family at the local park after my son's baseball practice there was very little. I had to run home and pick up my Nano CP X, Carbon Cub SS, MQX and the UMX Beast.

The Beast is the latest addition to my collection. It is V1, so no AS3X. I wanted the latest one, but the LHS sold out. There were going to be more in on Tuesday, but the store manager offered me the V1 store display real cheap because of some nicks on bumps. When I saw the battery was in it, I took it and saved $100. I'll get back to The Beast at the end of this post.

Back to the afternoon, where winds were only 5 MPH and I had half a 7-8 yr old baseball team with their parents behind me. I bought 2 of the new 35C EFlite batteries for the Nano and they did not disappoint. I took off from my CC SS box and immediately went inverted and held it about 30 seconds. Then I dropped down and completed a 1 1/2 flip/loop and came out of it at full speed and did a massive circle with Nano banked heavily. I have been practicing circuits, but this was my first time getting up to speed where it is banked. At about 2 minutes I hovered in a few different orientations and at the 3 minute beep I brought it in and nailed the landing on the CC SS box. My first full battery without a crash. I heard a few guys commenting on my flying followed by my wife commenting on how much better my friend Bob's flying is. Nice. Two of dads have crashed starter helis that I am...Continue Reading

It is always a rush flying something new and bigger than the last thing. I am used to the SR, but the 450 3D still makes me nervous. After an auction, I have a Pop Wing 1200 and Champ 15e with a 60" wing span. So today I went to http://www.modelaircraft.org/ and became a full member so I have some insurance coverage as long as I follow their code, which I have been following anyhow. It said $58 a year, but it only charged me $43.50.

I was going to need a membership anyhow when I go to join some local AMA clubs this summer. I also signed up both of my kids since they were free.

What a great RC weekend. I spend Friday night getting my fleet together and on Saturday spent 4 hours flying at the local dome followed by spending another 2 hours at the auction there. The one pic below shows what I picked up for what I considered really cheap. I got the Aeronca Champ 15e ARF for $70, the Pop Wing 1200 RTF for $50 and the AquaCraft Bristol Bay Fishing Boat for $100. The Champ and the Wing I have been debating buying from the store for over a months now, so they were a no brainier. I saved about $100 on that one. The boat is one my daughter and son always look at and comment on when I take them to the hobby store. They were not expecting that Easter morning, so it was worth it. My son loves the detail of the boat and I love that it has reverse. The kids are good with the Traxxas Blast, but it has no reverse. I can't wait for our weekend trips up to the local lakes. I think the kids will enjoy it.

Besides the auction, my Nano CPx skills have definitely improved. I think PJacq's brushless kit has helped with that a lot. I was flying inverted and buzzing the little guy all over the place. I was there with Bob S. and his flying makes mine look amateur. I posted a video of his flying below.

After a bad experience trying to control an HH Gee Bee, I was jittery about trying to fly my Carbon Cub SS. I don't know what I was worried about. I felt in control the entire time. Too close to a wall or light, do a sharp bank. Not lined up of landing, use the ailerons...Continue Reading
