AR 636 RX in another (larger/heavier) motorglider.
The DX9 spoileron and inboard flap program with flight modes worked very well with the Conscendo Advanced. So I removed a 7 ch RX and installed a 636 RX (Spitfire SAFE) in to my 10 yr old Cularis motorglider and used the program to see the differences. The 2.6 m/102 inch foamy is 4 lbs and 3 times as stiff as the CA. So she is much faster and is not effected by wind as much as the 1.5 m/59 inch 1.4 lb Conscendo.

The Self Level feature worked as well as the Conscendo gyro settings but is a little slower to roll level and to pitch level at all speeds. Full down stab restricts vertical dives to about 40 degrees down and so terminal velocity is much less than vertical. This makes high altitude dives more conservative and less prone to “foamy flutter”. No flutter was experienced.

My buddy has a Radian XL with an Apprentice Self Level receiver in her. I hope to put the Conscendo AR636 in her to see the differences.

I have decided to start dabbling... Learning.... about springs and how to make them.
This is for OLEOS, so that you can alter them and tune them to suit any particular aircraft and its AUW.
Most of my aircraft have INCORRECT spring/suspension strengths and qualities, seeing you only get to use what any given Oleo comes with - and they rarely come with a strength/behaviour that is truly suited. This is because a strength required has to match the aircraft AUW - which varies per any owners own 'version', and of course across the multitude of aircraft types adn constructions etc.

On my Mig-29 I discovered the oleos I used were somewhere from JUST strong enough, to "too soft". They are just strong enough to hold its AUW if it is standing statically with no external influences on it, but as soon as it MOVES they will be driven to bottom out. You would think that this can't be a good situation to have.... but in reality it IS quite good. maybe not perfect, but still a very good end result.
This is because it is actually JUST short of able to hold the AUW, and even though they fully compress they are still operating as springs - any time the aircraft tries to LIFT UPWARDS they resume operation. And that occurs as it 'bumps' its way across grass, bumps etc. So they ARE doing useful things.

This outcome showed me that oleos that 'easily' hold up an aircraft are not going to achieve this aspect of useful operation. They will pass too much 'shock' to the airframe and then...Continue Reading

When the OpenTX Wizard creates an elevon mix, it looks like this:

I2:Ail Ail Weight(+100%)
I3:Ele Ele Weight(+100%)


CH2 I2:Ail Weight(-50%)
 += I3:Ele Weight(+50%)
CH3 I2:Ail Weight(+50%)
 += I3:Ele Weight(+50%)
The weights are set at 50% so that the combined effect of the mixes for each channel won't exceed ±100% and cause clipping. That's important because when a channel mix reaches ±100% its control surface is at its limit and any further stick movement away from center won't result in any additional control response from that channel. For a more detailed explanation of this, please see this post, which includes a graphical illustration.

However, a 50% weight for the aileron input and a 50% weight for the elevator input isn't necessarily the best combination for a slope wing. The sum of the two weights should never reach beyond ±100%, but that doesn't mean they have to be equal to each other. In the case of my Weasel Trek and generally most other slope wings, the best setup will have a lot more aileron throw than elevator throw. In fact, if the CG is forward of but very close to the neutral point, a wing will require very little elevator throw. On the other hand, slope wings are generally more fun to fly with the quick and snappy rolls you can get with extreme aileron throw.

As an experiment, and in response to a conversation in the Eachine-H8-mini-acro-firmware thread, I've made some modifications to Silverware (NFE's fork), the Multiprotocol Tx code, and Deviation Tx.

I added two analog aux channels to the Bayang Toys protocol, intended to be tied to analog knobs on a transmitter.

I added code to NFE's Silverware fork to tie these analog channels (or any Sbus or DSM analog channels) to a few new features for modifying parameters in flight. I've initially tested with controlling rates and level mode max angle with knobs on my Taranis Q X7, which has worked well.

I also added a PID modification feature, which I've not yet tested in flight (mostly because I personally have never tried tuning my own PIDs, so I'm not sure if I'd be able to tell if it is working!).

With what I have so far, I think its ready to share and see if anyone else is interested in trying out analog aux channels and if they have any ideas for other features to implement.

Here are the notes on the feature I've added to my readme file:

This option (controlled in config.h) adds support for Analog Aux channels to control certain pre-programmed features. These are intended to be used with a transmitter with knobs to easily alter parameters while flying. These are controlled by #define lines in config.h.

Went out to the Skynights club field yesterday morning early so I could get in some good stick time for the day .
Made 15 flight total that's a good day for me as I tend to not fly when the skys get crowded with other planes but there was only 4 of us at the field for most of the day and a couple showed flew and then left so even with the field being tight there was plenty of free airtime . Well at the end of the day just after I had put my gas Edge away someone suggested we get a picture of all of our Extreme Flight /3D Hobby Shop planes so I snapped a few pictures of the group of them less my 75 " 3DHS Edge 540 that was already broke down and safely put in the back of the truck for the ride home .

We could have more but my friend mike and I already are usually at max plane hauling when we come out so we end up leaving some of our planes at home someday I will get a chance to assemble all of my planes for a group photo here at the house , but having taken 3 of my EF / 3DHS planes yesterday I still had 4 that did not make the trip to the field ...on this rotation . I had been up to 8 EF /3DHS planes but recently sold one the red/yellow/black 48" Edge 540 in the picture to a fellow club member , I had 2 of the 48" EDGES so I made him a deal on one of mine . Yesterday was his maiden with it and he really likes the plane .

I got a little more vigorous with servo 3 and just after turning off the camera the double sided tape let go .
I wasn't surprised as the double sided tape was a little Mickey Mouse .
For the 4th servo I added a clamp .. Yes I clamped it , and got a little vigorous with the servo .
I dont know , does the servo sound better after the weight training ? ( sounds like it to me )
Anyhow , that's the first 4 pack .

The City of Akron, and a small faction of enthusiasts successfully put together a nice little fly-in at Fulton Airport today. This is a tradition that goes back over 40 years. I haven't been in many years. They had a pretty decent turnout with a TBM Avenger, a B-25 Mitchell, a BT-13, an L-4, a Stearman, and a couple USAF transports from Wright Patterson. There was a New Standard Biplane hopping rides as well as a T-6. Although it rained for about 20 minutes people stuck it out and were still arriving when I left around 2. Fun day, and got some building done on my L-4.

Hi Everyone

In May I purchased from Bill Hempel Team Edge a KA6E 50% scale glider.....the biggest one on the market. I was looking forward to its arrival so I can install the radio gear and an electric motor to launch it given that I am wheelchair bound most times because of a spinal cord injury-incomplete quadriplegic.

Anyway, I received notice that the ship had arrived on 1 August 2018 and my glider was available to be picked up at the shipping depot in Melbourne. I paid for all the customs and duty fees that amounted to over $1,100 (Aus) and the Glider plus freight over $3000(Aus). So I paid over $4000 (Aus). Alot of money.

After I paid all the fees, the shipping depot organised to bring the crate with my glider to my vehicle and they gave me some paperwork that said the crate was damaged and photos of the crate within the shipping container were attached. The photographs supplied by the Melbourne shipping depot that unpacked the sea container clearly show that the freight company that Team Edge engaged to ship my glider packed the container incorrectly by putting heavy crates on top of my glider.....these crates crushed my crate and destroyed my glider. Damaged so much it cannot fly. I have attached photographs. My crate did not have stickers on it to say..."Crate on Top Only" or "Fragile"...none whatsoever!

My question is.......has anybody had the same experience when shipping large scale rc models like my Bill Hempel Team Edge KA6E glider 50%?

I am waiting for Bill Hempel from team edge to provide a solution in Bill's words. I was so looking forward to flying my new glider in Australia during summer.......................

Halloa guys

I got me a new FPV goggle in last week, so I have set about testing the thing It is a box-style goggle, and I should tell you that my current daily driver is the TopSky F7X v2, which is offcourse a Fatshark style of goggle..
I think most people never give box-goggle a second look after switching to Fatshark-style goggles, so I really wonder if the FXT Viper has a chance of converting me :P

So basically most tests I'll do are to see if these goggles are something I would want to be my daily drivers.. If I like them at all, I'll at least use them exclusively for a month so I can do a long-term-review for you..

I was building a Balsa USA Fokker EIII and nearing the end of the assembly. I could have gone with the plain stock gear but I wanted that EIII look. I also had to modify it to take some Top Flite wire wheels I needed to figure out how to solder larger pieces. Low and behold, Balsa USA has a video about soldering landing gear on their website. Great, I thought.

As I watched the video it showed the prep, how to get the pieces together and then the copper wire wrap. Then he got the soldering iron. It was huge, compared to the normal soldering iron. I knew then that’s what I needed to get, a big soldering iron. As I recall, he gives a watt range to look for. I found this one on Amazon.

I got it. It works great. The only the he didn’t mention was that it takes about 30 minutes to get up to temperature. There are ones with more wattage available on Amazon but they cost a lot more money.

This module is interesting because it uses one li-po 1S element , it helps to save weight on flying models.
My application is to use it in kite aerial photography !
If you put a clover leaf antenna, you can reach a comfortable distance of use .
Usually , I remove the antenna collector( to earn weight ) and connect directly the antenna on the printed circuit !
