Hi. Over the past years my vision has not improved, but deteriorated. I did have surgury to both eyes, replacing the lenses, but unfortunately this was temporary.
My vision has not improved, such that I can not safely fly rc airplanes. I won't be able to see them clearly enough in flight. Dang, and I still had one more full-fuse prop jet design I never built! Yeah, thats the way it goes sometimes.
So, I shall retire. Again.

Hi. I am to have eye surgury soon. Possibly later this month at the earliest. Clear vision will be awesome.
I still have the box of Model Plane Foam hiding under my bed and unfinished full fuselage prop jet plans eager to be completed. My Ptarmigan Trainer needs attention. The flying wing kit needs finishing... I got a list even before my return. I pray and hope my surgury works well.

Edit.... 4-10-15: my eye surgury for the right eye is set for June 10. Left eye unknown yet. Should be soon after the right eye.

Hi. Wow. It seems a few years might have passed by since I've been here. Allow me to bring you all up to speed.
Over the past few years my vision has gotten worse. Developing cataracts and frosting of the lenses. The eye doctor says all can be fixed but it won't happen for a while. Maybe next year. So there is hope.
Well. My vision is bad enough I can not see the planes well enough to keep from crashing. So, until my vision improves I figure it best to retire for now.
I still have the box of foam hiding under my bed and the electronics put away. Also, my Ptarmigan Trainer still awaits completion.
I've got a very cool full fuselage prop jet drawn up too. I will be back guys. Out on "vacation". Enjoy your foamies.

This is the next version of my Ptarmigan Trainer nitro plane. I'm modelling this one after the LT-25, for it's fuselage style of build: sheet frame rather than stick frame.
I built the fuselage, and the tail feathers. The tail feathers and wing tips are more "swept" in design simply for the looks of it, as compared to the Mk II version.
There was a point when I doubted myself as to whether the tail feathers were too big, so I made them smaller. I've since made them bigger.
I decided to use a constant cord wing set rather than the tapered wing I originally designed. I also shorted the new wing set to 50 inches.
The engine is to be an OS .32. Four channel control (Mk II was three channel).
Tricycle gear, rather than tail-dragger.

Edit: 5-4-12 - I done made the fuselage too wide for the engine I'm using. Or I need a muffler extension. Either way, I'll build a new, narrower fuselage for this plane. I'll save the fuselage for another trainer someday. At least I can add a few inches to the new one's length as well.
Mistakes are good if we learn by them.

I made an extension for the muffler by cutting off the end of a spare muffler. This now allows the engine to be mounted to the airframe with a small amount of clearance.

Here is my latest design and build, Der Jager Stik. I've combined two planes to come up with this one - Der Jager and Das Ugly Stick.
The size of this one is for Half-A engines, but could easily be modified for electric.
Controls are elevator and rudder, but ailerons could be added.
Note, these are beta plans that may need a few slight modifications. I'm building my plane with these plans, and have confidence the plans will produce a flyable plane. It is recommended any builders have experience making balsa planes due to these being unproven plans.
Note, these plans could be used for a foamie version, but I'll leave this up to you.

A few months ago I bought a Spad Flyer Trainer kit, and finally had the time to put it all together.
While building this plane, my nephew Adam built his first coroplast wing. using mine as a teaching tool. I've been reading a lot about coroplast planes the past few months, and am very intrigued about it, Mostly thoigh, spads are dang ugly, but a few are nice. I plan to use my foamie experirnce and design a few nice looking coroplast planes. I'ne got a few designs on paper already. I nrrd to buy more building supplies, but I'll be building what I can.
Adam and I will be doing his coropast trainer since we already have the stuff for his.

Edit: 4/10/11 - I added new pics of the Retro Spad Flyer. This is an open cockpit plane for my .28 Magnum, based on a foamie I designed a few years ago.
Adam's Super Cub is coming along nicely. We're building his fuselage now, and will be putting it all together soon.

I used both 5mm Cellfoam88 and 6mm grey Depron. Motor used was a Silver Wonder 1700 kv, 12 amp ESC, 11.1v 460 mah lipo, 7x4 prop, two 9 gram servos.

On the west side of Cemetary Hill sits a jungle of willow bushes so thick that sound barely escapes. When it does, I'm told, it resembles choking and sputtering, anger and anguish. Whistles are known to be heard by those passing by. Shadows, like monsters, scurry about in the breeze. Mother always said never to play near it.

Cool Kelly was an R/C flyer, and favored building his own planes from foam material. He enjoyed using depron a lot, but would take whatever was on sale, as his meager weekly allowance couldn't support two hobbies - r/c planes and paying off zit-faced Charlie to leave him alone at recess.

It was late evening when he and Johnny went out to fly. Johnny didn't fly much though, he was all thumbs as they say. He was there to give Cool Kelly atta-boys, if anything.
The plane in hand was Dekan's F-22. This was the newest plane in Cool Kelly's hanger. It was the only plane in the hanger - all others were, shall we say," given" away?
"Make sure the controls are set right." said Johnny. "You remember what happened yesterday, don't you?"
"But I didn't fly yesteday."
"Exactly. Nothing happened yesterday, so make sure nothing happens today."
Sometimes Johnny made sense. Like when he said CK could earn double his money back if he invests in his lemonade stand. Unfortunately, CK only pulled in fifty cents that day. It wasn't anyone's fault the lemonade didn't taste right. Johnny couldn't tell salt from sugar.

here are the plans to the PT Cruiser. This prop jet is made of 6mm Depron, but any sheet foam material can be used. You may need to trim the foam as needed.
This uses a 6 inch prop, ailerons and an "elevator" (that is actually a part of the rear frame). A V-tail system may be used (no elevator), but I've not done so myself.
The name PT Cruiser comes from the Pelikan Tail and one of my favorite cars.

Here are the Sky Babe plans. This is based on the Stits Sky Baby.
Note: this is not a plane for beginners. It's flying characteristics are best suited to intermediate flyers.
I built this one with no ailerons, but they can be added by the builder. I used plenty of dihedral (1.75 inches per wing tip) to stabilize the plane in flight. The wings are longer then the original, but if you want to try it then you can shorten them some.
The rudder has plenty of power, even to make the plane roll as if it had ailerons, so use expo (or put the rods on the outer holes of the surface control horns), as it may be too sensitive for some.
Once dialed-in this plane does fly well.
The CG is about three inches back from the leading edge of the bottom wing, and near the KFm step. Adjust as necessary.

Some of my planes use a three-bend airfoil, so here are some pics to describe how to do it.
Note: You check the balance of the plane by putting your fingers in, or near, the first bend. Works very well. Produces an airfoil that works wondful.

Here are the plans to the X-7. 6mm Depron, 6x4 APC prop, a 2600 KV motor, 1350 11.1v mah lipo. Controls are ailerons and elevator.
