I've been toying for some time now with Turnigy TGY-i6 transmitter. Here's a short review / analysis of it's capabilities.
Spektrum DX9, Turnigy TGY-i6 and Spektrum DX6i
To start... This is a small transmitter. Clearly smaller than other "standard" size transmitters. This might be advantage or disadvantage depending on the user and usage. Transmitter is also light. It really looks to be a good choice kids who appreciate it's weight & size and also for all other people with smaller hands.
Visually quality looks to be distinctive step up from 9X transmitters. It feels firmer and also buttons & switches feel little better. I've met several 9X transmitters with trim buttons that register only some of the button pushes. I haven't encountered this problem with i6. Backlight is also great addition. Gimbal sticks are short, stick ends will come off, but they're different than for example 9X sticks so no easy replacement. I would have hoped also for 3,5mm trainer / simulator jack instead of the used connector. The radio uses four AA-size batteries, which is also great development from eight batteries used on 9X.
The software feels familiar for those who have used 9X. All typical functionalities are available with the exception of timer. Honestly I quite don't understand why timer was omitted. Hopefully it will be added in software upgrades later. IMHO timer is one of the most valuable function for starting RC enthusiasts. Telemetry is a nice added...Continue Reading

Slick motor disassembled, stator was practically completely loose & turning freely. Only wires held it in place. Got some rewinding to do next winter...
