The advantages of this method are:
1. Light and strong.
2. Ease of construction.
3. Quick and cheap. Foam for the ribs can often be found from recyclers.
4. Accuracy. All ribs cut together in the one set up. Cannot get them better aligned than that.

For my next constant chord wing using this method, I plan to construct the spar first. It will go something like this:

1. A foam core tapered in thickness will be hot wire cut. Dimensions will be the airfoil thickness minus the carbon caps, minus 1 mm for sanding/fairing balsa. Lets say, nominally 35 mm high and 8mm tapering to 4mm thick, (for example sake only).
2. This core will be faced in 1 mm Pauwlonia ( but could be balsa or basswood et. al.) with vertical grain orientation.
3. End grain of the timber is then sanded down to the foam.
4. Pre-made carbon spar caps are then added to the top and bottom of the assembly. These will be layed up using common uni-carbon/laminating epoxy which is cheap.
The thickness of these caps are tapered out to the tips.
5. The caps are glued on and the assembly wrapped with Dyneema, Kevlar, or other similar high strength braided line. Then all given a light application of thinned epoxy resin.
6. The "laser method" hot wire cut ribs are cut with a slot to take the spar. The building board might be in two parts, to enable separation of the two halves to allow the spar to be lowered into place, glue applied, then the two halves brought together.

I fully expect this assembly to be super strong and super strong.

Home button to PWM5.
Select button to PWM6.
Display to I2C port
Bluetooth to UART1
Local GPS to UART2

1. Short bootloader pins (Boot headers (11) - check pdf from link above), connect Usb.
2. Using Betaflight or Cleanflight configurator in Chrome upload SPRACINGF3_**.hex FW from here

1. Download and install Configurator from here
2. Run Configurator from Chrome Apps. Select Com port, select Bauds 115200, press Connect. Press CLI ENTER. Now all parameters should get loaded. Set in settings PROTOCOL to Autodect, and set BAUDRATE same as your bluetooth or radiomodem speed. I use 57600 for Mavlink. Press SAVE. To connect again to Configurator set Bauds to 57600 at the top.

Tip: Uart1 is in parallel with Usb, and it means telemetry is not coming in when Usb connected. You can connect a Bluetooth module to uart1. Usb is only useful for flashing new versions. You can, may and should configure/tune the tracker «wirelessly».

If not set by default, run the following command in CLI mode to be able to use the local gps function through serial port 1 (UART2):
serial 1 2 38400 38400 0 115200

Other settings should be like this for Ublox GPS:
set gps_provider=UBLOX
set gps_sbas_mode=AUTO
set gps_auto_config=ON
set gps_auto_baud=ON

On screen info for local GPS:
RX: received packets
ERRs:...Continue Reading

The parts for the left side of the wing have been cut out and made ready assembly. No word from BUSA yet but I'm feeling better about the results on the right side. I haven't run across any online pictures of Taube bones that look substantially different than mine. I figure that means I'm on the right track.

A friend of mine finished his Me 109 model from 3D Lab Print.
He was a very good R/C Combat flier, but haven't flown for couple years already.
Me 109 from 3D LabPrint was supposed to be his come back.
Weather was very bad for flying - rain + wind. White model on grey sky.
But he was very determined to make the maiden flight either way.

Maiden was OK.
Second flight was not so much OK...

For testing I was sent the Frsky RX4R from .
I was very interested in this receiver for DLG purposes and it's possible 1s capability making for a very light Rx solution .

Please dont forget that the servos always plug into the Rx negative to the middle or signal wire on the outside .
The bind button is very small ( diminutive ) , at first I missed it completely . I needed something to magnify the board with to actually spot it , some one must be getting old or this thing is small .

Voltage Testing

I really wanted to see how low the voltage could go before the RX4R browned out . Factory say's 3.5v and I wont argue with them . But in my tests I got the Rx down to 3.2v with a 500mAh maximum current setting on my power supply . This is the lowest any Rx has gone I have tested so far , especially at the 500mAh setting . Now I thought I might throw some other servos at it from my normal analogue servos . I just received some digital servos from HK so I thought , lets give them a try .

The RX4R browned out straight away .
With the Rx getting 3.2v ,...Continue Reading
