I installed the GoPro I bought last year into my Green Models ARF Tiger Moth, and got some pretty good video too

"Wow!!!!" , is the only adjective I can think covers my delight in using this cam,the image quality is stunning.

It is on the R5 setting on the cam, which is the better setting I found.

Enjoy flying over a genuinue vintage WW2 airfield in a vintage aeroplane.

Hi guys, I have captured more older videos using my 'EZCAP' software. These are videos of my Spitfire designed by Brian Taylor, and build by me in the mid to late 1980's.

I hope you enjoy this blast from the past!

Hi guys. I used to fly IC powered planes once, and here is a video I just converted with an EasyCap onto my PC. I uploaded this last night, it's VHS quality, but is very watchable.

I flew my Brian Taylor Spitfire 1A in the comp, somehow actually winning the event and getting a shiny trophy!!

It was a low key comp!

This was my Spit's last flight, she had flown many before. The motor cut, and I pulled a turn to avoid going over the hadge at the end of the film, to avoid a country lane on the other side. She just stalled at the last second, and I broke the mainspar.

Last I hear of it,after selling it, it was hanging from a ceiling in a theme restaurant somewhere.

Watch out too, for some emerging electric power technology, there is a little twin DH Hornet flying around too,the first time I had ever seen electric flight!

There is a Mick Reeves Hurricane, another Spit IX too.

Just though I'd share this with you.

Hi guys, I have been off the bike for a while and having a lot of fun with my foamy Art Tech Corsair with a key chain cam mounted on a wing panel using good old velcro. It works pretty well perfect, and have been flying around a quarry at what was once, a USAAF/RAF WW2 base.

The runway has been removed for road building rubble (sacrelidge) but has been a great place to fly an RC plane with a cam

I have some ground to air video too, these are the vids below:

Well, no modelling recently, just trying to get my bike ready for MOT etc for this summer's riding season.

I want to take her to a track for unincumbered riding at high speeds (no cops or cars or lamposts to crash into)

She needs new tyres, brakes are done, swinging arm bearings tightened, all four carbs balanced, valve clearances reset, new plugs, oil and filters plus fuel filter. Also fitted a Motad Nexxus 4-2 to replace the stock Kawasaki exhaust system which had rotted pretty badly.

This bike will do 100 mph in second gear (easily) 80 mph in first.

Anyway, here's a few pics.

Matt

(Don't know if there are other bikers on RCG?)...Continue Reading

I have just started a new website with warbirds and jets featured. I have a build thread on my B-17F from Philip in Hong Kong.

The site went up today, but is a work in progress, but I'd appreciate your thoughts and maybe an entry into my blog on there?

Please tell me what you think!

Thanks

Matt

Well, after relocating to suny Southwold in Suffolk, I have decided to try FPV.
I've wanted to do this for a long time, having cut my tetth on still cameras in models (mid 1980's) then up to full size camcorders in big models, also a cheap chinese transmitting camera and receiver (low rez.)

Now I have bought a full set of kit from FPVUK.

Also bough an Easystar with a brushless 2200kv power system. Added an EzOSD,and antenna tracker. Got an Easy Cap too,so I can record my FPV exploits directly to my laptop.

With regards to my B-26, it is in storage waiting to make the 100 mile move to where I live now.

Cool!

Well, after some problems in 2009 which effectively ceased my model building,I'm back in again with a new workshop and hopefully new models. I have to finish my B-26, but some items needed can't be aquired yet...So,I thought I'd like to build another pusher jet, again the Lightning using new state of the art materials.

My new model will be 22" span, can't decide on motor/ESC/Prop yet, but I have a Grayson Super Mega Jet motor looking for a home..

This model will be a mix of Depron, pink foam, balsa and ply.I have got some good airfoil sections, meaning I can faithfully emulate the wing used on the full size.

Can't decide on 2 seat or single.Single seaters already done, and I ilike something different,so probably will plumb for the T.55 for my purposes.

I'm hoping it will be lighter, therefore handlaunch, plus I want TRUE vertical performance.

I have started drawing the plans, so anytime now.My new workshop is nearly ready, so off we go!

Here's some pics of the real deal.

This is my current build, started in March this year, finally am nearing the finish.

I'm powering her with HL scale 4 bladers driven by 2 Hobby Citty 750kv outrunners, the same as fitted to the Art Tech Corsair and Mustang.

She has retracts (mechanical) and flaps fitted.
I'm working on getting the gear doors working too, plus the bomb bay doors.

The doors will not be driven by servos, just a neat acces area to change my lipo's.

Approx. 55" span, built from an old control line plan and converted to electric power.

I hope to fly her from an old Marauder base here in the UK wearing the same colours as one of the ships that flew from there was wearing.

If you want to see more, please check my build thread in 'Scale Electric Planes'

Well, do you like her so far?

Here is my beloved bike, kicked over by some jackass teenager outside my home after he had no doubt, got a sniff of a barmaid's apron.

The paint is Kawasaki's 'candy' paint. Notoriously difficult to match, but am looking for leads to see if it's at all possible or if anyone knows a technique by which I can achieve some measure of success?

I can't afford to respray it at the moment, just looking for a temporary solution.Any ideas please?

Thanks for looking!

I bought this glider with 2 servo's fitted, the span is about 2 meters.
It is beautifully made, not sure if it was a kit or scratchbuild, but nevertheless, a great deal.
I wondered if it had a problem as it was so cheap?

It was soon fitted out with a 30 amp ESC, and a Phase 3 P-38 outrunner, with an APC 10 X 4.7 prop. A ply firewall motor mount was quickly fabricated,as I was in a rush to see if this thing worked!

Battery is a 3S 2200 20C 'Mystery' brand pack,.

Test flight:

Although the previous mount was angled for downthrust as you can see in the photos, it wasn't enough in practice.
The model climbs at a reasonable rate on full power, but definitely puts her nose up,so am going to add more downthrust,as when trimmed under full power for straight and level, cutting the power off sends her slightly nosediving, but for the price, I'm not complaining!

She serves as a great mount for my FC-1 camera.

I'm happy with my purchase, may she have many sorties

Here are the plans I have to make a card model of the Russian 'Backfire' Tupolev swing wing bomber.

Although in card, thgis would make a great basis to build a twin EDF or pusher jet model.

Rarely modelled, this is crying out for someone to build it.

You'd need to resize the drawings to suit your taste, but it is eminently doable, especially with depron/foam blocks and carbon stiffening.
Even shows the wing sweep pivot, which will need to be re engineered to carry the flight loads, not too hard to do.

I hope someone gives it a try! ...Continue Reading

I started modelling aircraft from the age of 7.My first ever model at that time was an Airfix 1/72 scale Folland Gnat.
I went on to build Keil Kraft scale rubber driven models and gliders (all free flight) By 13 years of age I started designing my own rubber driven stick and tissue models, notably a 'huge' -for me at the time Supermarine Spitfire of 32" span.

Then came control line models, powered by diesel engines of 2.5cc I dabbled with this for a few years.
By the age of 20, I received a tax return, and purchased my first RC system,a 27 mhz Sanwa 3 channel system,so then built a trainer kit.

A few other builds ensued, and started designing my own RC scale models,a Chance Vought Corsair being the first.
A few Brian Taylor designs followed, I also spent a lot of time teaching others to fly,as I found it very difficult getting others to teach me when I first started.

I flew and built ICDF Jets for a while,a Paul Grey BAe Hawk being the first, then a Thorpe brothers F-104 and Philip Noel Mirage 5.

Then I discovered electric!
I sold all my IC gear, and my first ever EDF design was the beautiful Grumman F-14A Tomcat, this is now being produced as a kit by Jet Hangar Hobbies.
An English Electric Lightning was next, plus some pushers, the Su 27 and Blackburn Buccaneer.
I'm presently flying some ARTF's but a new design for EDF is under way, the gorgeous BAe Hawk for 90mm fans.
