Has anyone else had issues with the Rise drones? I've been dealing with a particular hobby store online who sells them and I've been through 4 Rise drones. Everytime they send me one almost immediately after flying something blows out or it just doesn't even start. I know it's not something I'm doing. I was just wondering if anyone is having the same issues.

Today's solar filter photo detected a sunspot. 1/320, F5.6 ISO 400 was required to keep it from blowing out. Auto exposure wouldn't work at all. In still photo mode, with enough room to allow a reasonable amount of drift, the sun filled enough pixels for it to actually be worth it. Definitely need to underexpose.

The pole got another rework with the Samsung sideways. It was much easier to fit all the gear on this way. Sadly, the 2nd rework clearly degraded the corners even if it slightly sharpened the center.

Some new thoughts. What a shame that more young people are not entering this hobby of boat building. I am entering that advanced age where one doesn't remember where things are in the shop and you are excited when you find a tool you didn't know you had. Do I worry about who will take over all this "stuff " or is life only about accumulating it? It has certainly been satisfying. How to start. My sister gave me a Scientific kit of the "Eagle" when my wife first got pregnant. Said "you will need something to do while your wife sleeps on the couch in the evenings." That started it and while my wife didn't get pregnant that often, I have managed over the years to build over 50 models. Some have been given away to relatives and friends. Some sank. Hey, they were boats. I know this is an RC site but I plan to show as many of my boats as I have pictures.....scale, fast electrics and static. While they are not of the caliber of most of the RC builders who post on this site they should, hopefully, encourage some new builders.
Scale RC followed by a few FE, a little steam and then some static models.

Still finding some more pictures of the boats I have made over the years. Between my boats pictures and the photos of boats from the Chattanooga Model Boat club I can see I never wouuld have made it as a Librarian. I have done a poor job of cataloging. The biggest file on the computer is "boat pix"....Continue Reading

Well, I'll start on the P-38 from Legend models, putting in some Robart electric gear the 630 series. First I start off with some of the images of where I'm at this moment. The landing gear installation required me having to fish in some bind nuts with a cable after drilling out the holes and then press in blind nuts and screw in to compress into the wood a little tight in the nose gear area for my hands. The flap system is unique on this model. The controls were installed per the manual on that.

Its been a while and I need an update to, DO one and on my phone nervous already crashed my browser once.

I forget if it's a park 300 or 350. Several crashes pilot induced servo issues and such and more and just plain old fun crashing. It's a great model. Over twenty crashes easy. Keeps on keeping on.
Painted, glued, repaired, upgraded, uses 3cell. 5.8ghz...UHF control for this one. Some lock outs and issues and a mini OSD helps keep me informed of battery. Love bi-planes..

Right now it's awaiting to be repaired some again. Mobius has some flights non 60fps. It's ok but I don't know if a true fps of 60 indeed? Probably switch to another model for a while..and get flights in.

Have you ever had the folding prop on your ALES or F5J electric sailplane not fold back all the way? It is rather annoying to have a prop dangling in the front when you come in for a landing. It is almost inevitable you will land with the prop down on the grass the slide a good distance out of the landing tape point area. Here is a very simple solution using elastic string to solve the issue.

Most people do not think of the Space Shuttle as a glider, but that is exactly what it was.

Once it fired its rockets to start re-entry, it had no power other than gravity and speed to keep it flying until it landed. once it entered the atmosphere it had a five second window to land. If it was later than five seconds it crashed or fell from the sky somewhere.

When the Columbia was late I told my wife it burned up or broke apart. Sure enough a bit later they saw the parts raining down.

As a glider, it was not graceful nor flew well. But is was completely radio control able. If the astronauts became unable to land it the ground control folks with the aid of computers were able to bring it back from space.

Now that is one amazing RC craft...

I viewed the Columbia wreckage. it was amazing to see how it came apart and what survived. Light bulbs still worked. They fell from 65 miles or so from the sky and still worked.

More on that one later. Just wanted to say I got the chance to see this big RC glider land a number of times. Fantastic Engineering.

I added a small all-in-one FPV camera to the cockpit of an old GWS Pico Tiger Moth. The camera has its own 1S battery, and the Tiger Moth runs on a 2S LiPo. I upgraded the motor from a geared brushed motor to brushless.

I am going to make a discussion about flight controllers here.

Topics include sources to purchase from, Board design, brand names, controller software, etc.....

I am going to start by going over the 3 F/C's I have in my 3 quads.

First the Vortex Fusion Gen2 FlightController, with OSD, and BlackBox Recorder using Clean Flight

Next the Blade Theory and it's Spektrum SPMFC3207 Flight Controller using Beta Flight.

Finally the Lumenier Quad with it's LUX V2 Flight Controller also using Beta Flight

Stay tuned.

Update - 8-3-17 - Cannot find any source for the manual for the Vortex Fusion F3 Gen 2 F/C.

Disappointed and IMHO this is the type of thing holding this hobby back.

As even when you find the F/C manual it does not have some of the info you need? I posted here and on FPVLAB so let's see if anyone answers from Immersion on either forum. more info ASAP on the Fusion F3

Next on to the Spektrum SPMFC3207 Flight Controller using Beta Flight. So I can download the manual from here, Horizon Hobby is great!

However IMHO this manual is far from complete. Does not go over the start up beeps, or lights, or much of anything IMHO for that matter. Am I wrong here? I got no info on what if I want to hook up LED's? Or Info on the boot loader button.......but I guess that falls on General F/C info and Betflight/cleanflight type stuff?

Remember, I am a Newbie so I am writing this from a newbie's perspective....Continue Reading

I have had my share of glow engines complete with the instruction manuals. I have never seen one quite like this before! I purchased this engine here on RCG for less than it was listed at; good thing since the engine was not complete. Now I have made a few videos of this engine and my Look Inside, not made public just yet. The only paperwork that came with this was a tips leaflet titled "Vmax Please Read This First!" This is the most honest, to the point, no holds barred printing I have ever seen. I LOVE this! Now I may have different feelings about the engine, but the writers of the instructions are spot on! I have attached the document for others to read.

Pay special attention to page 2, paragraph d, but the entire thing is worth reading. I cannot tell you how many times I have encountered this EXACT scenario at fields that I have flown at.

Now this particular engine is distributed from a place called Richmond RC, The website looks a bit ancient and I really cannot tell by visiting it if it is still operational. I did send them an email to test the validity of the site and store, but I have not received a response yet.

As I mentioned above. I did completely disassemble this engine to inspect and clean it. The folks have a much higher opinion of the engine than my inspection revealed. I have run the thing one time thus far and for a 52 sized 2 stroke, it is not that impressive really. The quality of the materials looks....well like typical Chinese made glow engines, marginal. The crankshaft is so odd that it looks to be designed to shear in a crash, or even a prop strike. I have never heard of nor seen one of these engines before so I am evaluating it based solely on this used example that I have .
