I have cleaned, sandblasted, painted, polished and/or machined nearly every part on the old bike. Still working on the plates, but should be able to reassemble soon.

I have not been idle on this restoration/rebuild. In this pic, I have machined a new set of fork caps out of bronze as well as an internal bushing out of Delrin to replace the need for a bolt going through the fork tube. I found the holes to be really unsightly, but my attempts to fill them were unsuccessful with the material I tried. I also chased the threads on the tubes as well as sandblasted or polished every part.

I have been using Krylon Matte Nickel over a grey primer for most of the pieces. In one case, a set of rims was a dark color, so i laid a white primer over a grey in order to get the rims to come out with similar color values.

The paint seems pretty hard and I'm happy with the outcome. Considering that the temperature and humidity levels are not ideal, i had to wait for the best time of the day to get these in a good state.

I have stripped, soaked and cleaned the metal parts. I had intended to polish them, but since I only had access to a shop one day this week, I decided to go the primer/paint route. Later, when I have a proper setup i will powder coat them. As this is an electric bike, I only need to worry about chips and scratches, but this also means i can recoat as necessary.

The carbon is an experiment. I surface sanded and washed it of to get some of the scratches out and then applied a gloss coat. Still needs some work, but i believe i am on the right track to revitalizing the piece.

Bike is ripped apart....first parts are soaking in Simple Green....One night should strip off everything...will post tomorrow with pics.

So the other day this used KP 11e arrived on my doorstep from Ireland. Got a really nice deal on it, and Davy threw in some extras. Up to this time I have only had the TTn, TTe, Nf501, GPV1 and Hor. All of those bikes (running or not) provided a good platform to have fun with, but i really wanted something that was designed by racers.

KP is still very much in business and there bikes continue to evolve. Also their design model was to improve on the previous model and have backward compatibility.

The KP-11 was the last year to run the metal swingarm before switching to the carbon plate design (KP12) that still remains popular today.

The build will receive full CAD treatment in order to do a nitro version in the future, but also so that I have a record of the parts.

I expect this rebuild will take two months...(make that years...), but hope I can cut that time down.

I will be documenting the steps in my process.
