I lost interest in flying radio-controlled aircraft. All I ever wanted to do was to fly. I became tired of the inflated egos, the favoritism, the judgmental attitudes, the jealous and parasitic people. The worst thing that happened to me, was when I was about to leave, and this guy poisoned my dog. Imagine someone so jealous or so hateful, that they take it out on your dog? It's not worth it anymore.

Several years ago, we had this mail carrier. He had a chip on his shoulder. One day, he saw me unloading my car of two model airplanes. He goes, "oh, you play with toys, huh?" I thought that was pretty rude; rude and disrespectful. I didn't say anything, because we are supposed to turn the other cheek. Well, this same mailman tried the same line to my neighbor who happened to be a freeflight enthusiast. My neighbor is a kind man, but he didn't take kindly to the mailman who belittled him like he did me. He gave the mailman an earful short of a broken nose. That same mailman never, ever disrespected me, because of my model airplanes. Now forward 6 or 7 years to 2018. This same mailman saw a neighbor drop her iphone on the ground. He didn't tell her, but instead he pocketed the iphone. Little did he know, that my neighbor has security cameras in the front yard, recording his every move. To make a long story short, the police department called him and told him he had so many hours to return my neighbor's iphone. He did, and avoided prosecution. He was only weeks away from retirement. We never saw his sorry bleep again.

This is my second Little Bogie build. The first one was built in 2011. Whilst performing a tight loop, the wing folded in two, and it fell to the ground, destroying the plane For this next build, I will be using a length of cotton string to prevent the wing from breaking when stressed.

The attacks on our freedoms continue. We had to register model aircraft over 0.55 lbs. to 55 lbs. And then, a ruling saying we didn't have to, was only temporary. Did we get our five bucks back? No. With the arrival of the new administration in 2016, it was reintroduced into the verbage of legislations passed, and again, we have to register. I'm just curious if this will raise the sales of ultramicro aircraft. I'll certainly be flying more of them from now on. The hobby industry here and abroad should take note. We are all in this together. Advocating for our right to fly as free as possible is mutually beneficial. If we can't buy model airplanes and kits, because it's too darned expensive to register them, that'll make the hobby industry unprofitable. You guys gotta help us out.

GoPro came out with a smaller action video cam, called the GoPro Hero 5 Session. It looks very similar to the Polaroid Cube. Not long after, Runcam came out with their own box video camera, called the Runcam 3. The price of the Runcam 3 was $99.00. The GoPro Hero 5 Session sold (or sells for) $299. Naturally, the Runcam 3 started outselling the GoPro H5S. It irked GoPro so much that
they caused Runcam to stop selling their Runcam 3 in the U.S. Consumers weren't pleased by GoPro's move. Who wants to drink $300 cool aid, when there's some that's only $100? It did not sit well with consumers, since it was Polaroid who first came out with the cube form. People were so turned off by GoPro bullying Runcam, that sales of GoPro units fell. And then, I read that the company that owns Polaroid is suing GoPro for patent infringement. Here is a link to just one article pertaining to the lawsuit:

Places to fly:
I've listed the coordinates. Just copy and paste them onto Google Maps or Google Earth.
Little Mountain: (coordinates: 34.156793, -117.316024) Go up Little mountain road 1.2 miles. Pass Edgehill Rd. go right on dirt road passing radio antennas. Go downhill 800 ft. parking for 8-10 cars in back . It is in San Bernardino County, between the 210 and 215.
Field of dreams, San Pedro, CA (coordinates: 33.762488,-118.288615)
Carson field: 33.831817, -118.210938 --Carson Field is run by an r.c. heli club.
Stearns field: 118 fwy & Stearns exit 34.274134, -118.695731 directions to Stearns field: 118 fwy westbound, exit Stearns left; field can be seen on right side, but keep going to L.A. avenue (right), and next light make another right into parking lot of the park. The soccer field is where you fly, but it’s fenced in to keep kids from ruining the grass. It’s a recreation center with a few one-story buildings. In one of the buildings, they allow indoor flying, but you should call first to see when the next one will be held.
Rabbit Dry Lake Bed: 34.450838,-117.005459
Apollo 11 Field (aka: Van Nuys RC Field):

Bluff Park, Long Beach, CA
(coordinates: 33.761145,-118.154007)
Rose Bowl in Pasadena: ask the people there as to the location of where the rc planes are allowed to fly at. I do believe it's parking lot H, but not sure.

This is a 42.5 inch wingspan night flier from Hobbyking. The wings are very rigid, because of the strips of LED's across the wings. Those LED's are held in long strips of fiberglass pc board material, and that's what makes the wings so rigid. The lights are red and green, which is right for green; red for left. It's well thought out, because if all the lights are the same color, you can easily lose orientation on which is left versus right if you are inverted. Hobbyking solved this by putting blue lights on the bottom of the plane. And when the plane is coming towards you, the preponderance of white LED's becomes apparent, and so you know it's coming towards you.
FYI: The center of gravity (c.g.) is measured from the nose of the plane. That can vary a lot, depending upon whether or not you're using the spinner, another brand of spinner, or no spinner at all. So I took a measurement from the leading edge of the wing at the exact center: It is 64mm back from the leading edge of the wing at the center of the wing. Hobbyking's manual states that it can vary + or - 5mm. When using 3s 2200mAh lipos, I had to add 1.5 ounces of lead weight to the nose. I put the lead weights inside the cowl.
Another FYI: You do not have to glue the spinner (the nose cone) over the prop. It is held on by friction alone. You save money when you don't have to tear up the spinner to replace a broken prop.
Here is a link to a video, showing what the plane looks like lit up:

I decided to fly mostly ultramicro aircraft. I won't need to buy a van. When I retire, I will be going around in a medium-sized car that gets good mileage. I've flown big, and it's a lot of work taking them apart, putting them in the vehicle, and then re-assembling them at the field. After a work week, I'm exhausted, and I don't feel like working on another thing on the weekend. I just want to fly. With bigger aircraft, I can only bring one or two, because I don't like stacking them one on top of another. It puts dings and scratches on the aircraft, which to me is unprofessional. I've been flying since 2004 (officially in 2007), and I've gathered enough experience to say, with all honesty that flying skills are a big part of an airplane's performance. It's not how large an aircraft you're flying that determines skill level. They do fly "big." And generally, the wing loading of so-called large scale aircraft is superior to any 36 to 48 inch parkflyer. With ultramicros, you can bring (and thus, fly) more than a couple of aircraft in a day. If you bring your ultramicros in their boxes, you can stack them, and bring as many as your car can carry. Today, most ultramicro aircraft have some kind of artificial gyro stabilization. Eflite calls it AS3X, which comes with a beginner mode they call SAFE. With AS3X, these aircraft are a lot more stable, and some people liken the feel to a much larger craft. I just enjoy flying them, and I prefer small field flying. And storage, well, keep the boxes, if you have the space. Or you can hang them in the rafters, or the ceiling. You can own literally dozens of ultramicro aircraft, and not take up a lot of space. Yeah, so I think I've convinced myself even more. The future of RC Flight is looking good in the ultramicro realm.

If you don't care for Betaflight configuration software, you don't want to be limited to racing, and you just want to fly, the Rise Vusion is nearly perfect for you. There are some very important FYI's for the videographers out there, who want to video their flights. First, the Vusion takes micro sd cards up to 32 gb only. Secondly, you must format the micro sd card to FAT32. ExFAT32 will not work on this quad. Thirdly, the onboard video camera (DVR, or digital video recorder) can start "filming" even before you start the motors. It can keep "filming" even after you stop the motors. Fourthly, remember to stop the filming, and let the DVR catch up with writing the video files onto the micro sd card. I wait for 10 seconds or more, before I pull the plug. If the dvr is still writing the video files to the card, and you pull the plug, you lose that video file. Remember that the video files are 1280 x 720 in size; and they are .AVI video files. And finally, don't forget to peel off that plastic tape over the videocamera's lens.

Spitfire Mk IX ...This is the Parkzone ultramicro Spitfire Mk IX. I bought this several years ago. When I first tried to trim it out, I couldn't. I later found out that the center of gravity was incorrect. It was extremely tail-heavy, and barely avoided crashing it a few times. That was the design fault of Parkzone/Horizon Hobby. I finally got around to fixing it, by adding some lead weight to the front of the aircraft, inside the intake below the propeller. It is the first 1s lipo powered Parkzone ultramicro to have AS3X stabilization. It didn't stay in the hobby marketplace for very long, and it was quickly discontinued, and I think I know why.
