This is the 44th and final Test Flight of my Arrows RC F4U-4 Corsair 1100mm Warbird, modified for 4S power.

Arrows RC F4U-4 Corsair 1100mm Warbird Golden Hour 4S Test Flight #44 (5 min 36 sec)

Enjoy the lack of extra sounds other than the ambient noise, the voice of my Spektrum DX8 (G2), and the whistle of a precisely balanced 4-blade prop on 4S with the airframe whoosh of a Corsair.

I will apologize in advance as I feel like this flight was more subdued and restricted than what I normally would perform. I almost forgot how difficult it was to use the Action Cam iPhone Headmount... having the weight of an iPhone 7 strapped to your forehead and guessing what your iPhone is actually capturing during the flight while performing maneuvers can be awkward and a bit of a challenge.

The stock 40-Amp ESC has been replaced with a ZTW Mantis 65-Amp ESC with 5-Amp SBEC, and has been relocated from the tight air-restricting box that the original 40-Amp ESC was originally placed within the nose, to the interior compartment for increased air circulation. The original ESC "box" location has been left open for adequate ventilation to the interior compartment, with only the motor/ESC wires to channel through it. The plastic dummy radial faceplate cowl has been drilled with additional ventilation holes for increased airflow and cooling to the motor and interior compartment leading to the upgraded ESC.

The stock 11.5x8 4-blade prop has been replaced with a...Continue Reading

Let the new build begin. I hear the Eachine Tyro machines are a pretty good value in a 5 inch kit, so figured I'd build one and see for myself.

They spec out fairly nicely, and at the Tyro109's current price of $109 in the USA warehouse if it performs half decent it'll be hard to beat for a budget 5 inch quad.

Package Includes:
1 x 210mm frame kit
2 x 2206 2400KV brushless motor CW
2 x 2206 2400KV brushless motor CCW
1 x 4 IN 1 30A BLHeli_S ESC
1 x Customized F4 flight controller
1 x Caddx Turbo Eos2 1200tvl
1 x XF5804 5.8G 40CH 0mw/25mw/200mw/600mw switchable VTX
2 x Battery strap
1x Antenna
2x 5040 four-blade propeller CW
2 x 5040 four-blade propeller CCW

Will post updates as the build progresses.

Actually, I think I'm performing these DustOff Flights before the dust even settles ;-)
Too much fun!
I wanted to switch out the 3020 Prop I've been using and install a 3025 Prop just to see if it's any faster ;-)
Like it's not already fast enough right?

For those who fly larger electrics this may be helpful. Swapping batteries can be annoying if you have to deal with those canopy thumb screws everytime. I always replace these screws with a aluminum latch. This is not an issue if you fly gas since you can refuel without taking the canopy off.
Here is the step by step.
Ronaldo

EDIT: the lever is made of a very thin wire and broke after using a few times so I removed it and drilled a hole on the main pin to insert a 2mm pushrod. I recommend doing this mod or using the heavy duty latch shown in the picture.

Remember those potholder looms for kids? It gave me an idea...

This is another application I have not seen - an all-carbon truss spar. Using wetted carbon tow (12K in this case), I wove a truss pattern though a set of brads. The idea (Pratt or Warren without verticals truss styles anyway) is to be able to slide ribs into a finished spar unit.

For fun I tried some different patterns with string (second photo). I notice you can take an extra round on the perimeter if you need more thickness.

In practice I found the tension tends to flatten the tow, and this isn't ideal since you'd like more of a round or square section. Despite this the test is very sturdy and certainly benefits from not having any glued joints.

I'm thinking about building a fuselage side like this for my 24" Telemaster. I could use my thickness sander to ensure a flat, uniform surface and make the carbon closer to a square profile.
