I found this Super Stearman pedal car plan and decided to build it for my youngest Daughter’s first Christmas. She loves airplanes and is loves watching me build them. Maybe she will have an interested when she is older. I went with 5/8” birch instead of the 1/2” inch on the plan as 1/2” seemed to thin to me and I want this to be passed down through the family and want it to last. It caused me some headaches later and had to recut some pieces because I overlooked the fact that the change in thickness would require a plan redesign. Would not have been such a big deal If had not already had all the pieces cut. This was a very fun build and require some metal fabrication as well. I have been meaning to put this up here for a while but it has been a crazy busy year. But here is my progress so far. Adaption for the retracts was not as difficult as I imagined. I was originally going to go 4 stroke nitro and have decided to go 4 stroke gas instead. I have quite a bit of sanding to do but I like to try and do most of that all at the same time. Now that the retracts are in the wings I can mount the servos, flaps/ailerons and the tail retract as well then finish sheeting. I am still on the fence about wether I am going to glass with zpoxy or go the water based Poly polyurethane. I am going to do some smaller planes in both before I determine which will suit me best....Continue Reading
