Had some time to work in the shop this weekend. Decided to finish my F22 yardbird. Just wanted to show the finished pics. My kit was missing decals so went with Japan markings, my first Japanese/American fighter jet

Buy a GWS Slow Stick kit, this one pictured minus the lights I have under $125 into it including the Hobbyzone Floats ready to bind to Spektrum.

This plane was modified and equipped with ailerons and floats. I added some cheap strip lights so I can fly it at night and on water they will reflect off of the water. This plane can be built in a afternoon or a quiet evening if you have the motor, esc, 2 to 4 servos, Floats, 3/32" piano wire for the rear float strut and a little imagination and ingenuity.

If you live in warmer climates you can go with the stock gear and wheels supplied with the kit, unfortunately Michigan is not considered a warm climate November thru April so I went with Floats. In the spring it can be flown off water with no adjustments needed.

One thing I do different when it comes to these slow sticks is I use colored duct tape obtainable at your local hardware store or Wal*Mart to re-enforce the leading edge of the wings and tails. It also works well for hinging the control surfaces. Low temperature hot melt glue is used to stick the aileron servos to the bottom side of the wings. That is the only glue used on this plane, the tube of gws glue goes in the trash.

These planes are great indoor fliers too, keep it light and use only 3 channel set up. These planes do not roll well even with the dihedral taken away, I added them because when landing on water I want the planes wings level when I touch down. Sometimes it is hard to achieve when, you only have rudder to steer.

If you have any questions or need guidance or suggestions on building one feel free to ask me by posting here or send me a pm. I have built and modded around 15 of these over the last two years.Radical RC, Caliber Hobbies and Millennium RC has kits and a variety of replacement and hop up parts for the GWS Slow Stick.

Feel free to post a pic or two of your Slow Stick here so I can see it.

Its winter but im not hibernating, I would rather go flying~
