After the wood failed on my first motor mount, I dremelled out the center and attached an aluminum motor mount from a real Fun Cub.

Fun Cub Clone Low & Slow (12 min 11 sec)

I used a motor mount from a real Fun Cub and attached it to the wood motor mount and now it is solid.

I also found the correct CG and balanced the plane at 75mm instead of 50mm. It flies just about perfect now. With flaps on, it slow down to a silly crawl especially into the wind.

Sorry about the parts where the plane flies into the sun. This part of the afternoon, the sun makes flying (and filming) difficult. I also did not edit out any portions of the flight for those who may be interested in how this clone flies.

I was able to fly two batteries (2200mah) for about 5-6 minutes each and the batteries came down at about 3.8-3.9v per cell. I probably could go 8 minutes safely with this type of slow flying.

If you're interested in how I built this plane from $3 in Dollar Tree foam board, I have a build video playlist here:

On my maiden I was unable to find the correct CG (it was really nose heavy) and on my third flight up, the motor mount failed.

The shaft broke and I lost the propeller mid-flight. I was still able to land the cub safely. I will post video soon...

I made this Fun Cub clone using Dollar Tree foam board with paper removed in strategic places (mostly on the outer surfaces) replaced with 5mil laminate.

The blue color accents are from wing tape.

This is as an exact copy as I could produce. Turns out making a copy is a lot harder than building from plans!

Motor: NTM Prop Drive 3542 1250KV
Prop: 11x8 Master Airscrew
ESC: 60amp Hobbyking w/5.5a SBEC
RX: LemonRX 7-ch stabilizer receiver
Servos: EMAX Metal Gear Digital (elevator), Turnigy TG9z (aileron, flaps), generic tower pro 9g for rudder

The motor mount is made from paint sticks and gorilla glue...
I hope it is strong enough!!!

I posted some videos on this build on my YouTube channel:

Here's a video of my FT Bloody Baron. I built this from the plans on the FliteTest forums here:

The speed build kit is currently sold out.

This plane flies extremely well. Just make sure you dial down the throws and have a good amount of expo.
