My goodness, what have I been missing all these years!

Float Flying and this model has hooked me like something terrible!

Introducing my newly acquired (several Months Ago) at our RC Club FUN FLY raffle (I won the Raffle)!

Yes indeed, this Electrifly G-44 Widgeon is just an amazing model and very aerobatic if you like. The best, it comes in for a water landing like a Baby Doll.

Well, I finally got it right!

As some that have posted warned me, this heavy model just could not fly "or" in other words, I have to thank a higher power for giving me the common sense of NOT horsing this great looking model UP in the air with the weak AXi 2826/10 power system and just 3-Cells! That maiden attempt resulted in some slow speed taxi runs!

Replaced the Electric Power System to the SUPPO 3520/6 (840Kv) and swinging the APC 12 X 8 E propeller while using the 4-Cells, 4,000mAH, 35C, Lithium Polymer Batteries.

I must declare that I was very pleasantly surprised in the manner this model handles itself up in the air. That Long FUSE Boom really allows this model to perform some wicked aerobatics should you decide at the controls. This made it worth while after struggling in trying to get the model's Center-Of-Gravity close to where it needed to be. Again, this model in it's early life flew with the Thunder Tiger .46 Glow Engine and it tipped the digital scale at over 16 ounces. This made things pretty challenging as there was really not enough selections of a Motor with this weight and having respectable (KV) parameters (Revaluations per Volt) to keep the Cell count low.

I decided NOT to remove the Impact Socket underneath the bottom end of the FUSE (Frontal) as it allowed a very good mid-point Center of Gravity with the new power system at 11+ ounces (Including ESC). It is amazing how much weight was required up front to balance this model out. I would say this Carl Goldberg Tiger-2 is very well constructed to say the least.

Tail Boom Weight Considerations:

Okay, this Carl Goldberg Tiger-2, 40-size must have flown with an internal combustion Engine (Glow) that is at least 12oz. of weight because it has been just Hell in getting the Center of Gravity on the mark even using the older Turnigy 3-Cell, 5,000mAH, 35C, Lithium Polymers (14oz).

The best location I have been able to get for Center-Of-Gravity was 4.5 inches which is way rearward than what the manual says (Tail Heavy). Considering that the Main Landing gear was bend AFT (Rearward) to prevent the model from rotating on ground and most especially to avoid an early rotation on take-off, I would suspect that the Center-Of-Gravity needs to be as close to the specified mark per the manual.

Speaking about the manual it does say I can fly this model with a most rearward Center-Of Gravity of 4-3/8 inches measured from the front leading edge. That is before my 4.5 inches! I have looked and looked for an alternative Brushless Motor (Inrunner or Outrunner) that would at least be a porky of 12 oz. or more but, that retains at least 850 Kv. No such luck.......!

I looked at an alternative to what I have installed and the AXi 2830 that has 790 Kv and has 8.3 oz. of weight but, is just a little over 2 ounces more than my Axi 2826 that...Continue Reading

It is very strange and amazing that I have acquired a super nice Carl Goldberg Tiger-2 (61-Inch Wing Span) from a nice gentleman locally (Used) and primarily Glow Powered back in April 2013 and it captured my eye saying to myself when in the heck I am going to get this model in the air and most importantly Electric. Well, a few days ago I finally dusted off the model and actually started on this project.

This thread is pretty much after the fact as I have already considered several Power Systems and the one that stood out was the Model Motors AXi 2826/10 with 920Kv and Castle Creations Thunderbird 36 (36-AMP). Since this is a Sport Model, I am going for Airspeed and selected the XOAR Glow wood 10 X 7 propeller that will provide a good amount of propeller RPMs using 3-Cells, 2600mAH - 3300mAH Lithium Polymer battery packs.

Glow-To-Electric Design Considerations:

This model has a very long FUSE Tail boom, however, it is not entirely solid balsa / light ply sheet with wood (Coffin) as it does have cut-out contours for weight savings but, it still has a long FUSE tail boom nonetheless. Hello good people.

For those that might have an old, nine or ten year old laptop and trying to keep it but, has the Windows7 operating system then, no need to trouble your heart and fear not in doing a little research on your computer. As many of you know that Windows7 is no longer being updated by Microsoft for security and other drivers for newer equipment that will be available in the future so, the need to have it running with Windows10 is pretty much a mandatory decision.

Point in fact, I am using the following as an example which is the DELL VOSTRO 3550, a 2011 vintage laptop and it has been with the Windows7 since new. Of course I upgraded it with Windows10 for Free using the Windows software that analyzes the laptop and it came back with YES, you can upgrade and didn't cost me anything. The licensing is ported from the original Windows7. However, once all the install and updates were finished and once on the Windows10 OS, the screen disappeared as soon as the laptop fully came with a desktop (screen disappeared).

In my troubleshooting, I connected an external VGA monitor at the output of the Laptop (most do have a VGA output). Magic, the desktop finally appeared on this external monitor. Here I was able to perform a search for my issue via the DELL website and like magic they had a fix. The fix was to download an application that performs an update on the Computer's System BIOS. Okay,

Here's my two large RC Airplane models.

The one on the Left is of course my 80-3/4 inch wing span Midwest Citabria (Glow-To-Electric Conversion) and on the Right is a most recent acquisition from a local seller, the 3D Hobby Shop Vyper 65 inch wing span.

Both of these models are 6-Cell Lithium Polymer Battery Power Setup. Both have enough batteries for two flights each at any given time visit at the RC Club and I have field chargers for additional flights.

The 2014 Toyota RAV4 carries these two models plus all the gear very well. The Wing Assembly for the Citabria is transported inside the Roof ceiling and held by two bungee straps.

Hello good people,

Finally was able to get Video Recording of the third (3rd) Flight of my 3D Hobby Shop Vyper 65-inch wing span.

I was extremely lucky to find this model locally (Airframe Only) such that I had to thoroughly check all balsa and light plywood joints and hinge control surfaces plus populate Spektrum A8260 High Torque / High Voltage Servos plus a 50mm Outrunner (400Kv) power system with a Castle Creations BEC PRO to power the Spektrum AR8000 + SAT and Servos.

The first two flights were using the Turnigy 5-Cell, 4,000mAH, 35C, Lithium Polymer battery packs and the flight was good for the Maiden and a 2nd flight with a fresh pack but, it was almost at Full Throttle as these are some older battery packs (approximately 3 years old) and granted the cells have developed some increased internal resistance thereby, Propeller RPMs was just not there.

In this Video shows the third (3rd) flight and while using a total of 6 Cells (Two 3-Cells, 5,000mAH in series with another equal identical battery pack) and let me tell you it woke UP this model and attained actual and true 3D flight! OF course, I am NOT a 3D RC Flyer so, most of my maneuvers were SPORT flying and I did command the model to some 3D Hover and it did NOT disappoint.

Okay good people!

After two (2) days flying my beloved Midwest Citabria, I finally was able to Video record a flight under heavy windy conditions. This is the 2nd flight for Saturday, November 14th, 2020. Unfortunately, during the first flight, video recording was not successful because the memory card was full. Painfully deleted very old Videos from the Memory Card and was able to successful record the second (2nd) Flight.
On this Video the goal was to break-in some new GEN ACES 3-Cells in series with another new 3-Cells 4,000mAH, 45C discharge Lithium Polymer batteries so, therefore, the Citabria flew with 6-Cells total operational.
Wind was steady, however, on landing the wind quit and I was dead stick. Next time I will have partial throttle.

Greetings good people.

It's been just too long! I can't believe it has been (over 4 years) this long and my beloved Midwest Citabria been hanging this amount of time.

Took out the Power System out of my beloved Midwest Citabria to use in a 3DHS Vyper 65.
So, as a replacement, I installed a almost brand new E-Flite Power 60 (400Kv) in my Citabria. It will swing the XOAR Glow wood 14 X 8 propeller using 6 Cells. Commutation will be provided by a brand new E-Flite 60-AMP (ELF11597) without the need for any onboard BEC.

While my Citabria was down it needed some attention to bottom end covering from a previous repair many years ago and for some reason this expensive covering turned a different color. Instead of a nice bright white it turned in an ugly translucent tan for this repair area. Sanded the bones down and applied new covering and hope this one does not turn.

The last known receiver that the Citabria flew with was a super narrow band 72-Mhz using a Hitec Electron-6 dual conversion (JR) Receiver and as I recall it was glitch prone at my RC Club so, I took it out and replaced it with the Spektrum AR8000 + SAT. The new AR8000 + SAT has been tested before and extensively with the E-Flite Power 60 for several days now and it is rock solid.

Hello good people!

TIP:
Whenever testing an Electric Power System, always have a proven and tested Electronic Speed Controller for this purpose and not just any ESC from the Hobby Drawer!

This happened to me when performing a Power System setup for test! I just reached in my Hobby Drawer and got out an old and un-tested E-Flite 25-AMP ESC, perhaps 10+ years old.

Using this E-Flite 25-AMP ESC, the motor (E-Flite Power 60 - 400Kv) exhibited some very strange things like squealing and reversing direction when I placed the throttle back to Null (OFF). It was so loud that I had thought it had a lose magnet or bad bearing!

Got a brand new E-Flite 60-AMP ESC and it now runs super smooth!

Cause: Bad initial (E-Flite 25-AMP) ESC used!

Well, got lucky to acquire one Airframe Only 3DHS Vyper 65 inch wing span in very good condition considering it's age.

Anyway, investigated all past posts of what brand and kind of servos everyone have been using for this model and at one point a few used the SAVOX brushless High Voltage Digital Servos at a whopper of $100 US.

The Hitec and some others did offer High Voltage and High Torque but, the servo power setup was still the 3 Pole Cored Carbon Brush and they still demanded a good amount of $$$.

I finally settled with the Spektrum A6380's which offers High Voltage, High Torque and Coreless motor setup for a very reasonable amount of $$. For the amount of one SAVOX, I was able to get four (4) Spektrum A6380 servos and I didn't look back.

I worked a little more than what I am used to for a Used, Pre-Owned model but, that's me as I like to check and re-check all areas of the model and especially the control surfaces and overall airframe structure. The motor is one of the older but, built like a tank outrunner with 398 Kv and it is identical to the E-Flite Power 60 in diameter and length, however, the Hobby King (Formerly UNITED HOBBIES) motor came with a 8mm output shaft.

The actual motor is very similar to this motor back when I purchased it was the Hextronic HXT50-68B by UNITED HOBBIES at the time.
