Christmas and Birthday gift on its way ...

I am truly shocked that my WIFE has ordered this ... well ... she attempted to ... but needed my help to complete the deal ....

I now have to worry what she really wants ..... but at the same time ... I know she loves me ... maybe ... or at least until I crash it ....

Because repairs on the simulator are so much easier and less expensive, than crashing your favorite RC plane while learning new tricks ...

is landings ...

A bad landing can cost you at minimum ... PROPELLERS ... or worse ...

I have gone through a rash of propellers in my last couple outings ...

The problem with that is - when you break them, you have to replace them ...
And nowadays, you cannot just run to your local hobby store and pick up a spare.

Well, you could, if you're lucky to have an LOCAL HOBBY STORE

Otherwise, you're stuck with ordering up your parts online ... and waiting a week, or two, or three.

It is worse, if you have to wait for a Part from CHINA!

it is sad that most of the mom & pop hobby stores have closed up, because either there is no profit to be made, or not enough interest in our hobby to keep them a float.

Inventory is another issue ... hard to keep stuff in stock that never sells, till its needed ... then it's on back-order.

So I am grounded until I get my package in the mail, or decide to drive 90 miles or more (round trip) to spend 5 bucks of a prop, and 6 gallons of gas @ $3.25 per gallon ($20) ... to drive there and back ...

I love my hobby ...

It's official ... I lost my mind again ...

I started off with ... the ROCHobby 2.2 V-tail glider
Just to get stick time again ... been a few years since I used the thumbs ...

Picked up a used Ultrafly Decathlon to toy with ...

Then a 3dhs 41 inch Edge 540 ... need TLC ... it will fly again ... (not pictured)
Then a Carbon Z cub ... just waiting to fly it ... (not pictured)

Then the Eleven Hobby T-28 ... my fun fly, warm up plane ...

The bug is biting me bad ... just purchase a Edge 540 that needed some lovin, and rescued a unwanted Decathlon that needed a new home ... topped it off with a spectrum dx6i to bind to some of my growing stable ....

I have the Edge and spectrum ... just waiting on the Decathlon ...

But, I broke one of my last taboo's and started flying an electric powered glider. Got to admit ... it was fun.

Especially when you haven't been on the sticks for over 4 years ... going on 5 ...

I just went to my first RC field in a long time ... my friend had just recently joined an knew I had an addiction to RC ...

I told him I have been on my 12 step program to break free of my Plane Crazy habit ...

Today was my first step breaking free from that program ...

I broke down a few weeks ago and picked up one of these little gems, with the intention of having something to have fun with and maybe try my thumbs with slope racing one of these little speedsters.

I always liked the looks of them but never had the need ... I had my Talons for the 50 inch fix.

But, they don't make Talons anymore ... and they also had a lot more room to stuff the gear ...

So, I am curious on what radio gear, servos, Rx, Battery packs, aileron and elevator throws ... and CG range people are using.

I chose to go the Hobby King route ... 3 Vigor VS-15 servos, A Corona 8 channel Full Range Dual Conversion Receiver and 4 AAA 1000mah stack in viper configuration ...

I am aiming for 70-75mm from the leading edge as a CG start point ...

Still trying to figure out how I am going to stuff the servos into that skinny wing cavity ...

I don't see them being a perfect fit ...

How to drive

930 miles in 4 minutes and 12 seconds (4 min 35 sec)

More like 20 hours and 30 minutes .... Craziest thing I have done (at my current age - now if it were 30 years ago ... no problem)

In addition, here is a pieced together video I took, which includes Bob Martin flying Katie's Hobie Hawk.

Or not .... I can still fit a few more kits in there ... and still have a bit of room in the rafters ....

After what seemed like a eternity to obtain, or ever find anyone that had one of these New in the BOX ...

I ran into this GEM on EBAY ... I thought I was going to die! ... I was prepared to pay a King's ransom for it.

Thank God not many bid on it and the one who did, was a noobie and probably didn't know what the plane was or its RARE history - Or, I am sure I wouldn't have got it for the price I did ...

The best thing is, I have a BRAND NEW CANOPY kit ... now, I wonder how hard it would be to make a backup of it without Destroying the Original ...

I am still alive and well. Been busy with family, my son's sports, Riding and work.

I still plan on finishing my "Jalapeno sloper" ... Especially after I had a custom set of foam wings cut for me ... (that was to hurry up my finishing that project) ....

I have not abandoned my hobby ... it just taken a back burner ...

Forever ...

You can't print them or copy them (I password protected them - besides they're distorted so don't try to be 'capone' to unlock them )... but, you can look at them enough to decide on ordering the plans and build your own ...

They fly great ... but, with today's electronics ... you can think about adding a rudder servo and put 2 servos in the wing for "flapperons" ... maybe even update that fat old e374 ....

My original 'stang ... I added "removable" Landing gear that was functional ...

Spinners are still available from C.B. Associates ... 2.25 "No Cut Out" plastic spinners ... Canopy is another story .... try searching for "SIGWC809 SIG CANOPY CLEAR 9 WWII"

I got my wings at my targeted goal of 6:1 Aspect Ratio. Not scale-ish as I wanted ... don't have that stubby wing racer look I was after (as in the previous versions) ... at least I would expect this to still fly better @ 6:1 than 5.2 to 1 .... and it still should be a demon and a handful, depending on how much aileron you decide to give it ... like a 1.5" strip ...

I just provide the layout Idea ... how you wish to proceed with radio gear and push rod install ... is your decision.

Build-up, Foamie, Profile or a Slope Sled ...

A proof of concept of the "Slope Sled" ... only 1/5th the size ...

probably be a catapult rubber band launcher plane ... or just sit around like all the other partly completed projects ...
And I will have to update the drawing .... someday ....

Yeap ... its a great little catapult glider!

Here is the finished rendition of what "should be" a good little project 2 channel glider.

I have a more scale version of the same that I will post as well if you want to play around with it.

Here is a RCM Scratch-build in progress (for like 8-10 years now ... maybe a bit more)

and here is the 1st RCM P-51 Scratch built I did almost 25 years ago ... Yes it had Landing gear ... I added them because I was told it wouldn't fly with them ...
I also flew it once with a paper bag over it's nose ...
(removable - but functional ... didn't affect the flying much ... landing was easy ... stopping it from rolling was tuff ... It was cool to land with wheels .... )
