Tutorial Update - Converting an OPTO ESC by adding an SBEC

The Video is posted Here:
https://www.youtube.com/c/GroundControlRC

Tutorial Update!!!!

A post by "Per Buch" on this video brought to my attention and corrected my Brain-Cramp in that you do not need two servo connectors on this setup.
You can clip the Ground Wire on the ESC and move the ESC Signal Wire to the Voltage Regulator Power and Ground Servo Connector and it will work fine.
I tested this setup in my Parkjet over the course of 40 flights and it worked great!
Now there is no downside to using this setup as it only requires 1 Receiver Port ;-)
It also decrease the weight to 10.9 grams ;-)
Even better!

Review - BoldClash F08 All-In-One Fpv Camera with Built-In DVR

Here is a link to the Video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lVeZ1fLVr3Q

***Disclaimer-This Camera was provided to me for Testing.

With this camera you have an option of antenna choices.
You can choose the Linear Antenna or the Skew Planar Antenna.
I chose the Skew Planar Antenna because it produces a better signal.
They also provided (2) Linear Antennas so I have that option as well.
I was glad that the dimensions and the weight of the camera were pretty well spot on as listed in the Specs.
I was pretty impressed with the light handling of this camera. The Sun was very low in the sky as it was only 8:30am when I started testing.
I could see the ground in detail even when flying directly at the Sun ;-)
This FPV camera with a DVR only cost $2 more than the FPV camera I use now and mine doesn't have a DVR.
This camera is 25mw only, I wished it had an option for 50mw for better range on my Parkjets.
I think this camera will work great on my Micro Parkjets and my Quadcopter as I don't fly out as far with those as I do with my Mini Parkjets.
All in all I think this camera has good image quality, excellent light handling, and the DVR worked great.
It's super simple to setup your channel and band and starting and stopping the DVR is just one short press of the button.
I had no problems using the onboard DVR of this camera.
The Micro SD card I used for the DVR test was a Class 10 32gb card.
The video was smooth, although, another video file was created every 3 minutes.
I would say this camera has some great features, seems to be well made, produces a good image and video, and is a very good value.
A Big thumbs UP for this Micro FPV Camera with a Built-In DVR.

Glue & Fly Series - Flight #10 with 3S Power in our Latest F-22 Micro V1.5 Airframe

Here is a link to the Video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t_6huhP100g

This is Flight #10 of our latest F-22 Micro Parkjet Build dubbed V1.5
Time to perform some Test Flights with the Intermediate / Advanced Setup using a 3S LIPO.
The LIPO I'm using is a 3S 450mah 65C.
The All-Up-Weight of this Micro Parkjet is 131 grams with a 3S 450mah 65C LIPO.
The Thrust-To-Weight Ratio with this 3S LIPO is 2.1:1
Before this flight I had increase the Aileron Dual-Rate from 25%-35%.
I increased the Elevator EXPO from 25% to 35%.
This greatly reduced the Twichiness during flight and made the movements much more smooth.
It also gave me more Aileron control authority for Rolls and Split-S maneuvers.
I also input 6 clicks of Down-Trim on the Elevator as the Parkjet wanted to climb.
My observations on this Flight:

* Aileron Trim is perfect.
* Elevator Trim may need improvement after more evaluation.
* Aileron Dual-Rate may need an increase to be determined after more evaluation.
* Elevator Dual-Rate many need a decrease to be determined after more evaluation.
* Aileron EXPO may need a decrease after more evaluation.
* Elevator EXPO may need an increase after more evaluation.
* The above remarks are regarding very fine tuning of this Parkjet. As you can see from the video it is stable, responsive, acrobatic, fast, and gets great flight time on this power setup.
* After the 4...Continue Reading

Glue & Fly Series - Flight #2 of our Latest F-22 Micro V1.5 Airframe

Here is a link to the Video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tLIM0RN09tw

This is Flight #2 of our latest Micro Parkjet Build dubbed V1.5
The Maiden Flight was successful even though it was a bit tail heavy.
I moved the battery forward approx. 4-5mm and this put the Parkjet at a more neutral balance on the CG and took the twitchiness out.
I performed some more Acrobatics with this Trainer Setup and I think it will do everything I ask it to do ;-)
This Micro Parkjet was a bit quicker than I thought it would be with a 2S LIPO which made the flight all the better ;-)
The All-Up-Weight of this Micro Parkjet is 119 grams with a 2S 450mah 65C LIPO.
The Thrust-To-Weight Ratio with this 2S LIPO is 1.3:1
This is our Trainer Setup for this Micro Parkjet.
For an Intermediate to Advanced setup all you have to do is replace the 2S LIPO with a 3S LIPO ;-)
The 3S LIPO we will be using is a 450mah 65C LIPO as well.
I will post additional flights of this Micro Parkjet in the Intermediate/ Advanced Setup with a 3S LIPO ;-)

My observations on this Flight:

* The CG was much more neutral instead of tail heavy which made the Parkjet handle very well.
* I was surprised at how stable this little Parkjet was considering I haven't changed anything except moving the battery forward.
* After the 4 minute flight the LIPO Cells were at 3.7v per Cell
* Estimated flight time with this setup should be...Continue Reading

Glue & Fly Series - Interceptor Micro V1 Desert Flight #2

Here is a link to the Video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fY_wMwwOVOI

Wind is out of the Northeast at 6-9mph.
Flying 20-30ft above the ground it felt like wind of 10-12mph.
Again the wind was not favorable for this Micro Parkjet that only weighs 107.8g, however, I had so much fun flying this on it's Maiden Flight I was right back at the field two days later putting 6 batteries through it ;-)
I filmed 5 of the 6 flights this day.
This is flight 2 of 5

Glue & Fly Series - Maiden Flight of our Latest F-22 Micro V1.5 Airframe

Here is a link to the Video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mUe-QzTBiRg

I'm always a bit nervous performing Maiden Flights via Line-Of-Sight.
My Line-Of-Sight skills have greatly improved over the past 3-4 months but I still have a long way to go.
I will post additional flights of this Micro Parkjet in Trainer Setup and then it will be time to perform the Re-Maiden with a 3S LIPO in the Intermediate and Advanced setup ;-)

My observations on the Maiden Flight:

* The Parkjet was slightly tail heavy
* The fact that the plane was a bit tail heavy made the controls a bit twitchy
* After the 4 minute flight the LIPO Cells were at 3.7v per Cell
* Estimated flight time with this setup should be approx. 6 minutes if your in the throttle a lot like me ;-)
* With a Micro FPV System operating at 25mw it will probably be around 5 minute flights ;-)

I'm pretty darn happy with the way this Micro Parkjet flew on the Maiden Flight!
If someone with my Line-Of-Sight skills can fly this Micro Parkjet on it's Maiden Flight and also perform basic Acrobatics with it and not have any problems, then a seasoned Pilot will certainly not have any problems ;-)

RC Tip #17 - FPV System Test Before Flight

RC Tip #17 - FPV System Test Before Flight (1 min 16 sec)

After having an FPV System Failure on a brand new system I decided to not only test it on the ground before flight but also test it in the air before putting on my FPV Goggles or Visor.

I do this by using my FPV Monitor and DVR to record the flight video from the FPV Camera and then review the footage to make sure the system is working properly and the signal is stable.

This will at least expose any immediate issue with your new FPV System and hopefully save your aircraft.

Always check before Flying FPV!

Glue & Fly Series - Introducing our Latest F-22 Micro V1.5 Airframe (4 min 0 sec)

Introducing our latest "Glue & Fly Series" F-22 Micro V1.5 Airframe.
This is our lightest Micro Airframe yet at only 48.62 grams including Decals, Motor Mount, and Control Horns.
We have made some changes to the V1 Airframe and have dubbed this Airframe as V1.5
If the changes we have made are successful we have a few more changes we want to include before releasing v2.
We will try to Maiden this new Micro ParkJet within the next week.

RC Tip #4 - Standardize Your Battery Connectors

RC Tip #4 - Standardize Your Battery Connectors (5 min 33 sec)

Since there is much confusion regarding the various types of battery and power connectors in the RC Hobby especially for someone new to the hobby. I have standardized my battery, power, and vehicle connectors based on Amp draw from those vehicles.

This is just a guideline as only you know what works best for you.

My rule of thumb, using XT30, XT60, and JST Connectors is as follows:

Pulling less than 10 amps: JST Connectors
Pulling between 10amps and 30amps: XT30 Connectors
Pulling more than 30amps, no more than 60amps: XT60 Connectors

I currently do not have anything pulling more than 60 amps so I have been able to standardize on those three connectors.

I convert all my battery and power connectors accordingly.

I hope this tip helps in this area.

Custom 250 Quad - Dustoff #1 - I wrecked it but good ;-(

Ground Control RC Custom 250 Quad - Dustoff #1 - I wrecked it but good ;-( (5 min 14 sec)

Well, I haven't flown my custom 250 quad in months.
Time for a DustOff flight ;-)
I just flashed my Flight Controller with BetaFlight.
The Flight Controller is an old CC3D unit.
This flight is to check it out and see how out of tune it is.
Sadly, I ran out of talent on a very bad default setup.
I had a lot of drift and vibration when flying through the prop wash.
I should have waited to get the tune accomplished before performing much acro not mention the fact that I am way out of practice.
I haven't evaluated all the damage yet to see what can be salvaged.
I guess I'm lucky I already have upgrade motors on order for this quad, I'm certainly going to need them ;-)

Racing In The Sand Trap With The Turnigy Trooper SCT Via FPV ;-) (5 min 13 sec)

Turnigy Trooper SCT 1:16 Scale R/C Truck

The area of the racetrack we setup is 60ft x 16ft.

Racing this R/C truck on wet sand on top of concrete was a major challenge!

I hope you find this video as entertaining as I did frustrating!

As you can see I can definitely perform durability testing of what I review ;-)

OK! So lessons learned when driving on an enclosed track in sand.

*Watch your speed especially in the turns
*Throttle management is key

Other than having to learn that lesson the hard way it was a lot of fun driving these practice sessions.

RC Review - XK Edge A430 Stunt Airplane

RC Review - XK Edge A430 Sport Airplane (16 min 0 sec)

***Update Note: Due to the fact that this plane is made from EPS Foam and is quite brittle.
I do not recommend this plane as a Trainer or as your first plane.
I would recommend this plane as a second plane once some flying skill has been attained.
Also, after a few more flights I determined that the motor and prop had a great amount of vibration and this caused errors in the gyro.
I have since replace the stock motor and prop with an upgrade motor and prop and now it flies great!

This little airplane seems to be well built and is only approx. 80 grams AUW (All-Up-Weight)
The only assembly was snapping in the main landing gear.
It can carry a Micro FPV System and fly via FPV for approx. 5.5 minutes with the 2S 300mah 65C LIPOs I purchased for this plane. Much Fun!
It has two modes, one is 6 axis gyro stabilization and the other is 3D mode. Both modes have gyro stabilization, however, 3D mode gives you more movement on the controls and no rudder mixing.
The plane has a great flight envelope, and can fly fairly slow without stalling which makes it easy to land.
It also has a normal and more responsive rudder setting according to the manual.
This plane has a very high fun factor! I really love this plane.
The EPS Foam is a bit brittle and not nearly as durable as EPP Foam or EPO Foam.
There are plenty of spare parts for this plane as well.
The only issues I have with this plane is the type of Foam used and I think it should have better authority on the controls in 6G mode.

It can carry a Micro FPV System and fly via FPV for approx. 5.5 minutes with the 2S 300mah 65C LIPOs I purchased for this plane. Much Fun!
It has two modes, one is 6 axis gyro stabilization and the other is 3D, which appears to be full manual mode.
Manual mode should only be attempted with calm wind.
I plowed this into the ground in manual mode on my maiden flight and nearly took the nose completely off ;-(
There are plenty of spare parts for this plane as well.
