Well, the mock-up has been completed and everything has been put through the dry run. Next, I will add about 1 oz. of ballast in the nose which puts the c/g at the recommended 4 1/2" - 4 3/4" from LE as a start with an AUW of only 28 ozs., well below the posted target weight of 40 oz. I'll then goo the halves together with the wing in place, then goo the wing to the fuselage, then tape the fuselage, goo the tail feathers on and she is ready for covering....Continue Reading

This is the Spindrift kit I received as a gift from Jack at Leading Edge Gliders (LEG) who sponsors an annual contest during the holidays asking viewers to submit their holiday greetings from which he would choose one lucky viewer on Dec. 25, 2009. Well, much to my surprise, I won (thanks again) so I figured I might as well document the building of my new toy to share with others.

In the photo of the kit contents, the instructions are from a previous kit I had built from Jack, the 48" P51D Mustang shown in the corner of the 2nd photo and in the third photo during construction. So what this means is I will need to improvise, but the two kits have similar construction requirements like the split fuselage carve-out for components and finishing techniques.

Jack has provided builders with a C/G 4 1/2" from the LE but says we may have to push it back to 4 3/4" or more.

I presume that the 2nd photo shows where the three carbon rods are to be placed with the wing tubes joined at the center with the short aluminum piece.
