Hobbyking retracts: The followings are not full metal, inexpensive (<$10 per piece)

Great for planes ~ 1.5 kg flying weight
For models ~2.5 kg flying weight (FMS 1400mm warbirds and 90mm EDF):
Larger models (46 size - 60 size, 8-12 lb models): 5 mm shaft...Continue Reading

I was visiting my son in another state and decided to purchase a plane. I asked how much would it be to ship it to my state, $30 was the cost. Unfortunately I could not fit it in the car. I decided to take it to the post office. If the cost was the same to ship I had nothing to lose. $15 to ship. Is the vendor making money on shipping, using the wrong priority to ship. They were using the post office to ship. What am I missing?

The price of the labor means nothing if they're good. Maybe Hindustan Computers Limited isn't the best at writing airplane software. Some of the smartest people in the world are Indians making $9/hour. Some of the dumbest are USicans making $400/hour. If wealth was fairly distributed, there would be a recession.

Software written to buried sections within a million page spec tends to miss the details that come from casual use. The relevance of a piece in the big picture gets lost. What happens if the piece fails gets lost.

Boeing has a long feedback loop beginning with a guy in Seattle who just writes a spec, a guy in Mumbai who just implements it, & a pilot who just tests it years later. We've all applied to large aerospace companies. All they want are PhD's in exactly 1 function, who have spent their entire lives doing 1 function without ever seeing anything else.

Maybe if the guy in Seattle implemented it & had a way to test it instead of writing out a spec for someone else, the loop would be shorter.

This is a genuine 1080p 60 FPS recording camera which actually records 2.5k at 30 FPS IF you want to but I wanted the 60fps firmly quads and planes.
It also provides live video out at the same time as it records so could be used as fpv camera with a seperate vtx.
I'm going to do that later and add head tracking to my gliders for both recording hd and live fpv from one camera.
Usb for file transfer too so no need to mess about with SD cards all the time.
Again this will be a written review but video review done too and some flight footage from my glider.
If you find this or any of my articles useful please consider using my Affiliate link no extra cost to you and helps me fund the next review ( no need to buy this camera , anything you buy after clicking on that visit will earn me a small % commission )

We often see a lot of people on the forum to talk about the problem of Polymer Lithium Battery swelling. In fact, Lithium battery puffy is a comment phenomenon. The reason of battery swelling related to many factors. Such as production process, use method, use environment and so on.

Let me give you analysis the reason why a Lithium Polymer graphene battery will swelling:

(1) Poor encapsulation: Top sealing, Side sealing, and Degassing, poor encapsulation on either side can cause the Lipo battery cells to swell. Poor encapsulation will cause moisture in the air into the Lipo battery cell inside, which causes the electrolyte to break down and produce gas. But at present, the poor encapsulation cause the battery cell puffy rate has been greatly reduced.

(2) The moisture content inside the lipo battery cell exceeds the standard: There is a certain requirement for moisture content in the battery cell. Once the moisture content exceeds the standard, the electrolyte will fail, thus producing gas after the degassing.

(3) Abnormal vacuum extraction: Abnormal vacuum extraction due to system or machine reasons. The heat radiation area of the vacuum seal is too large, so the air-extraction bayonet can't penetrate the pocket effectively, and the air-extraction is not clean.

(4) Corrosion: Polymer Lithium Battery Cell Corrosion, aluminum layer consumed by the reaction, loss of water barrier role, so the battery swelling.

(5) Pocket surface damage: the surface of the...Continue Reading

A Pivoted and movable front shock mount. By minimizing interference with suspensing arms, and maximizing
Shock travel , this design greatly improve the handling capability on rough terrace, at the same time improve tractions by always applying pressure on both wheels.

With a “C” shape shock stay base design, combine with the roll-cage and chassis kick-up angle, it forms a close loop which greatly improve structural crash absorbing capability, the elastic structure can reduce the chance of deforming upon front-end crashes.

The front towing loop together with the front bumper provide an effective initial collapsing area, greatly reduce the chances of damaging the front part of the chassis upon crashes.

Xing 2306 2450kv added. Flew two packs on it this morning. Was nice. One arm is cracked unfortunately and no spares for sale anymore... :/

I also got to test out the new FOXEER v3 stubby lollipop antenna. They were wonderful compared to my old beat up pagoda. I was a bit worried the battery might interfere w the stubby but it was really good. I had an aomway 4 leaf and a patch on my aomway goggles. The reception was very good even when I flew behind myself w light trees in between. Definately good value so far. Not sure how long they might last though.

stubby does seem to black out if i get in the wrong orientation... upside down nose pointed towards me gave me a blackout twice so far... :/

Attended my third Warwick NY event two weeks ago and had a great time as usual. This event is really shaping up to be a nice lead in to the NEAT Fair. Great electric flying, camping, killer views, and a great collection of folks who love the hobby. The location is spectacular and offers something for everyone into RC.

I shared some space with some longtime RC friends from Sawn Craft. Jonathan was kind enough to gift me a sweet (literally and figuratively) little bottle of golden elixir, fresh from his small batch production. Ahhhh maple syrup how I love thee so! His newest creation flies into your mouth rather than into the skies above. I just ordered 4 more bottles to give away in our raffle for our upcoming electric event.

Hartland Hollow Modern Homestead is the name. Small batch production pure maple syrup from the woods of East Hartland, CT. Amber in color, and graded as an A. I prefer the A over the B for general consumption, especially on the classic pancake. This settles in nicely on the cake and doesn't overpower it. Nice light hints of maple syrup vaguely reminiscent of Log Cabin or Aunt Jemima except here are no chemicals or high fructose corn syrup here. I like a good hearty B grade when using the syrup as a cooking agent.

I did take a little bit of this and cook it down to about half the volume, and in doing so really thickened up the consistency. I take a little bit of it and spoon it onto pieces of thick slab cut bacon. The bacon...Continue Reading

This is my Madien Flight Review for the Freewing F-35 Lightning II V3 70mm EDF Jet.

Freewing F-35 Lightning II V3 70mm EDF Jet Maiden Flight Review (3 min 46 sec)

Here are my review notes for this pretty Stealth Fighter EDF RC Jet:

Pros:
- The paint and details are absolutely stunning on this F-35 Stealth Fighter Jet.
- It comes with nice suspension, including trailing link nose gear
- Plastic coated canopy to prevent gatoring
- A big battery bay

Cons:
- The main con and that is why I didn't give the simple overall build a Pro is that the servo connectors for the rudders and had a lot of paint on them making it difficult to determine polarity.
- It flies pretty heavy and the CG is hard to get dialed in nicely.
- Lights like my Freewing BAe Hawk T1 70mm EDF Jet would have been a nice.

I'd like to get a discussion going here about tent camping, or "primitive camping", during the 2019 Soaring NATS. I've never done this before so hopefully I'll hear from people who have and we can all share thoughts and ideas.

Here are some links and images:I was told that there are showers at Site #3 and at the back of the museum. Here's a Google Maps aerial view of the layout as I understand it. Please let me know if it's wrong:

If an access code is required for the showers, what time do you have to arrive to get the code? If the office is closed, can someone else get you in?

What's a good time to arrive so that you'll have plenty of time to set up and relax?

Also, I'd appreciate any advice on what to bring, what to do about meals, etc.

Thanks!

DustOff #3 - Volantex Super Cub - More Acrobatic than I thought ;-)

Here is a link to the Video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fcIDpg_Txpk

Now that this plane is all trimmed out let's see how it performs ;-)
It's more acrobatic than I thought it would be and that's a good thing!

The amount of Flaps I have is 10mm from the top of the Aileron to the top of the Wing.
The amount of Up Elevator Trim is 3mm.

I was using a good 7x4 composite prop in these flights.

I used a Nanotech 2S 450mah 65C LIPO on a 4 minute flight and still had 7.6v in the pack.
I was in the throttle a lot during the flight and I should be able to get 7 minutes of flight time leaving 3.5v per cell or 7.0v for the pack.
That looks pretty respectable to me considering how small these batteries are ;-)

Yep Les Amis,
I M P R E S S I O N N A N T !!! lol ...

Every scale plane needs a great pilot figure. My daughter for Father’s Day gave me an Aces of Iron WW2 Pilot.

The pilot honors James H. Howard. Here’s his story. He was a missionary kid from St Louis and was an ace with the Flying Tigers and P-51B in Europe. He’s the only US pilot to get the Medal of Honor. His heroism has been called a One Man Air Force. http://www.airforcemag.com/MagazineA...1110oneman.pdfhttp://http://www.airforcemag.com/Ma...1110oneman.pdf

This project was done with Testors enamels. Those AOI painting tips work best with oils, not so much with enamels. Here’s what I learned:

1. Paint a base coat of flesh color.
2. Paint the eyes first., then the face.
3. Dark colors to light colors.
4. Dab on washes 10:1 odorless thinner to paint
5. Mix lighter colors and drag dry brushes with barely any paint over the surfaces. Clean the brush completely every five minutes. Start fresh and regularly thin the paint as it dries. Keep it thin, not runny.
6. Flat enamels are ideal. However, you’ll want to spray one light coat of matte finish at the end.
7. If you spray two coats and it hazes on you just rub tiny amounts of petroleum jelly over the parts. The brown jacket really went gray quickly.

I wish I’d known these tips. Enjoy!

UPDATE: A 9th Air Force shoulder patch decal and I made an Inspection sticker decal on the life vest. I dated it 1-11-44, the date James Howard became a One Man Air Force and won the Medal of Honor.
