Holybro KOPIS 2 - My First Ready-To-Fly FPV Racing Drone is a MONSTER (10 min 21 sec)

The Holybro Kopis 2 is a ready-to-fly fpv racing drone and is also my first racing drone. After 20 hours on Liftoff FPV drone simulator, I'm able to take off, land and do some trick always in acro mode.

Main Kopis 2 characteristic is the frame: inside arms and bottom plate, there is a white material called ROHACELL:

Inside the frame, lot of technology with Kakute F7 FC, vtx Atlatl HV V2 800MW, Tekko32 4 in 1 35A (compatibile Dshot1200) and brushless motors T.Motor F40 PRO2 2400KV: you can buy it from here:

-5mm full 3k carbon fiber twill.
-Counter-sunk screws on base for great appearance and protection of battery against damage.
-KakuteF7 flight controller with soft-mounted gyro for mechanical filtering of vibration. Means you can disable more software filters for best flight handling.
-Improved soft-mounting foam for KakuteF7 gives optimal balance of stiffness and damping for even better gyro performance than before!
-Betaflight OSD included. Monitor voltage and battery capacity in your FPV goggles. Change PIDs and Rates using your transmitter sticks.
-Atlatl HV V2 video transmitter:
5.8 GHz
Standard 40-channel set. However 5645 MHz and 5925 MHz 5945 MHz are illegal in many areas, so they are not supported. If you...Continue Reading

A top battery door and compartment for any model offers a more convenient method to load and remove your battery pack because you don't have to pick the model up and hold it inverted. With a belly door there is greater risk of the door opening because of G loading from inside loop and landing G forces. I've seen many planes flying around with the battery hanging down being held only by the connectors! Those are the lucky ones as battery separation means a loss of control and crash damage. Battery back up methods are highly recommended but won't be discussed here. Converting the stock belly battery door to a top door can be done with a little effort and time. TheTimber 1.5 and 1.2 meter wingspan designs are discussed here.
The battery door is cut just forward of the Timber windscreen. The thinnest part of the pack gets loaded first at an angle. Once the pack is inside there is plenty of room for fore/aft CG adjustment using foam blocks as spacers. Inside the former battery compartment is the larger 60 amp Turnigy Aerostar RVS (reversible) ESC but the stock ESC will fit as well. A balsa plywood floor/ceiling separated the top battery compartment from the bottom ESC compartment and offers increased structural strength between the fuselage sides and the motor mount area and the landing gear area.

As of Feb 2019 the following pics show the different packs that can be loaded thru the top hatch. Refer to Horizon Hobby Airplane Technical people to find the largest 3 or 4 cell pack that will fit in the stock Timbet belly door. Any of those should fit the thru the modified top door and top battery compartment.

I decided on a Power 52 I had in my stash for my Phoenix Model P-51 Mustang from Tower. The rest of the setup:
- 100a Turnigy ESC from HK
- 5s 4000 30-40c Turnigy Lipo
- 14x8 APC Thin Electric Prop

See the video for the outcome. This plane definitely has a beast mode:

Ripit Revision 2.8

The Rip is back ..
Back with a new Rudder / vertical fin
Back with a new wing
Back with a new servo

Was / is windy today , really too much for the R 2.8 ..
Sometimes when a big gust rolled in the Rip was like a discarded tissue and I was barely able to maintain control .
I went out today a total of 3 times ..
The first time I broke the Rip , and repairs and mods were needed ..
The balsa board that holds everything needed to be trimmed , this changed the way stress was distributed thru the nose ..
Same problem the 2nd time out , only I broke it worse because of that load distribution ..
More repairs and tweaks and VIOLA , 3rd times the charm ...

Rip glides , turns and behaves relatively well given the windy conditions .

It is tuned as much as I can in the windy conditions , and next up is peg launching ..
I might just do some launch settings for the R 2.8 now , that way if needed tuning the launch settings will be relatively quick ..

So what have I learned ?
I think my tail moment is too long
Dihedral - you need a lot on such a small glider .. ( Think you have too much ? - might not be enough )
The Ripit 2 project has been a learning experience for sure ..
I might have a few more Micro DLG's in me ..
But I would like to DIY a 1 meter DLG next ..
Then maybe a 3ch micro ( Rudder / Elevator / Ailerons )

ANd if you didn'y know , the Ripit is a rip off the Whipit - dimensional'y speaking ( Wing )
FYI Horizon might be doing another production run of the Whipit early 2019 ...
Some local retailers are promising stock April 2019 ..

BetaFPV Beta65 Pro 1S - Flight X (2 min 56 sec)

First flight on my new HappyModel 0802 16000kV motors. I feel like these are far easier to control than the OEM BetaFPV 0603 19000kV motors. Quite happy.

Someone showed up at the field with one of these a few months ago. I'd been curious about it for some time, so when I saw it, I went over to take a look, and I really took a shine to this plane. It's one of those golden era designs that simply grabs your attention. I checked inventory at Tower when I got home and--of course--they were out of stock. I checked regularly for a few months and just recently they re-stocked. So I immediately ordered mine.

The unbox revealed a very well put together plane. The covering looks excellent, and there are some nice extra touches like pre-trimmed covering where glue goes on the tail feathers, the tail feathers are keyed for straight and balanced alignment. Ailerons hinges are glued. And the packing was top notch.

Take a look at the video for a closer look at the plane. I very much look forward to completing and flying this little sweetheart of a plane.

If you're in the market for a .46 class P-51 Mustang ARF balsa bird, take a look at the Phoenix Model P51 on Tower. Like most Phoenix planes, this one is built well, but it's not perfect. Most of the issues revolve around the landing gear. Gear doors don't sit flush against the wing when retracted, scissor mechanism on main gear points forward instead of aft. However, those are relatively minor gripes. The value equation for this plane is strong given the completeness of the kit, quality of covering, and time invested from unbox to flight line.

See the videos below for a detailed unbox and build review. Hope they help with your buying decision.

I resisted a long time, but finally decided I should get one..... the FRsky Horus X10s.
This is a quite big move upwards in 'luxury' of RC Transmitters - versus its functionality is probably not a lot greater than a much cheaper Taranis X9D (or X9D+). So I would say you are not buying one of these to get more functionality - though just a bit more - but in my case because of a few extra useful things it has.

1) Large color screen - just a lot more information possible, and looks way better than a monochrome smaller screen too! Plus it can be seen better in outdoors/sunlight too!

2) Two extra Trim Switches (T5 and T6), which can be used to great use in extra functions per aircraft. You just have two more Inputs to control things, or add adjustability to things.

3) Triple antennas - two internal - and you can even NOT use the external one. This means no 'sticking out bit', LOL. And that can make it nicer to put down or store etc.
It still has an external bay, which to me seems best used for a Long Range TX/RX system - for long range FPV. And.... it came as a package with the L9/L9R TX/RX system anyway. Perfect....

4) Super quality gimbals. Well, I had changed my X9D to M9's anyway, but these are even better again.

5) Looks modern and pretty cool ! LOL. The 'old' type TX cases are looking a bit dated now, but you would not buy a Horus JUST for that!

6) No battery hatch/cover - a fixed internal battery. I saw that as a positive, as you can open the back easily if you...Continue Reading

Knowingly I bout 2 kits with belts that was damaged by age and heat. My guess is this was a shipment of a lost container or was in mini storage too long.

My overall impression.... for 25 bucks. :-) Heck yeah! I'm gonna crash it anyway.🤣

SWASH ball screw stripped out.
(Metal head and swash)
Rear blade control arm plastic. Not good.
Also the the tail pitch slide is junk.

Using align 250 aluminum tail control are.
Align 250 belt
Going to try a touch of j.b. weld on the screw before putting the ball link to swash.
(I also have another kit I can raid)

I have been building balsa ARF airplanes (warbirds and civilian) over the last few years and have really been enjoying it. So, for this year I wanted to do something a little special marking the 75th Anniversary of the D-Day Invasion at Normandy, France. It all started when I came across a plastic model kit for sale that featured a P-47 and a FW-190 together in a tribute to the 70th Anniversary of D-Day. It had both planes in 1/72nd scale and it really reminded me of my childhood building the plastic model planes and cars. Gluing all the tiny pieces together, painting the models, and applying the decals... ahhhhh such fun. They always looked so cool when complete. But then when July 4th came I usually just blew them up with fireworks as my friends and I staged a mock battle with them

So, I just recently put the kit together and was really happy with how they turned out (attached some pictures along with the information supplied with the kit). And I have decided that this would be my next ARF build project. The plan is to take a Hangar 9 P-47 20cc and a Phoenix Model FW-190 and build them in the same schemes as the model kit. I chose these two mainly because they were the best representations of these planes that I could find and they are roughly the same scale in relationship to each other. They are both roughly 1/7 scale.

With that said, let the tribute begin

Hi all,

wanted to share this with you ...

what's better than a TELLO used with a Xiaomi Mi Repeater that'll be 2 mi repeaters ... here's a video of my sample flight with it, turned around at 50% battery, the range and video quality was amazing for such a simple mod.

4mbps at 368m video still looks good.

thought I'd share. hope you like.
