Hope to maiden her this weekend, weather permitting. Went electric, set-up based on one of the most popular. Here are some pics...I got rid of that awful Pilot, printed my own.

So I got this ICON used from a really nice person here on RC GROUPS for $80.00, plus $58.00 shipping. Decent price considering what they sell for if you can find a new one. It's in decent flying condition, I test flew it a couple of weekends ago and was pretty happy with it. However, I fly off a small pond at my home RC Club here in Sacramento. Since the model has no flaps it comes in a bit fast to get it down on the little pond if the wind doesn't favor the long version of the pond. So I decided to put flaps on the model after watching a video on YouTube. The install took a little bit of time but I'm very happy with the results and I can't wait to fly to see how much slower I can land in our little pond!

So I got very lucky a couple of days ago, I walked into my local hobby shop and I found this! I had been looking for a model of the V-Tail Bonanza. This one was built, new and unflown. Did the maiden on the 4th of July, and it flies so nice. Here are some photos. I removed the strange looking N number, and I will add another more correct type. I also ordered a Tru Turn 3 blade spinner, and a Master Air screw 3 blade 11x8 prop.

So I ended up buying a new 3D printer because I wanted to upgrade. I bought the Creality Ender 3 S1 PRO. There were files available on the internet (shared) to do the correct missiles for the Su-35 from Freewing. I ended up scratch building the pylons from basswood to keep them light and permanently mounted the pylons to the wing and used magnets to attach the missiles. I have the left wing complete but I still need to paint the missiles. I used eSun PLA+ filament which works really good.

So I got super lucky this week, found a new Top Flite CESSNA 310. Always been a fan of the actual airplane, and as I enter my 3rd year of flying RC Aircraft, I have really begun to love balsa/composite models. Foam is cool, but large balsa is great! Can't wait to see this one become airborne for the first time. Going to build it electric. I will definitely update here!

Big "Thank You" to Metal Massager https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/itrader.php?u=822665 here on RC Groups, offered me a little rough Freewing Eurofighter V2, shipped up from So Cal, I looked at a few pics and decided it wasn't to bad. I had it about a week later, and I have to say, he packed it for shipping with great care. Custom built box, and all parts were well wrapped, just a fantastic job.

One of the issues was a missing canard. I knew he had tried to locate one without success. Took a look at the remaining canard, and knew it could be made from plywood without to much difficulty. I chose 1/4 thickness, to allow for the thickness of the original pivot rod. Plan was to sand them to shape on the leading /trailing edges. After the first one was complete, I made a left also. The plywood was quite a bit thinner that the original foam part. More like the real aircraft.

Did some research on the paint colors, found what I needed easily, and started a few repairs on some hangar rash, and maybe a couple gear up landings.

These pics are captures from my GOPRO 7 Black.

Been flying the AVIOS MiG-17 lately, very smooth and stable, added all new servos, HiTec digital type. Great 90MM jet, very happy with its performance, even though there are some quirks to get used to. Mainly the landing gear sequencer. I make sure I get 5 successful cycles of the gear before I fly it. There are PLENTY of horror stories out there about it. Also several proven methods that don t seem to work on how to initiate the system to avoid those horror stories!

I really like this Freewing Su-35, and completely understand now it's popularity among EDF Flyers. here are some shots of mine...and have now passed the 100th flight barrier with EDF powered model aircraft.

Well, I am closing in on my 100th flight with EDF type model aircraft. Never thought I would get the hang of it, but I have become confident enough now that I would allow the rating to be awarded if that sort of thing took place in model aviation. Be kinda cool if it did. Guess it would be a bit of a nightmare for the AMA to track, but it could be done at the club level, without to much difficulty. This barrier was a little tougher for me than the tail dragger one. But they don't move quite as fast, and you have a bit more time to make decisions and fly the airplane. I actually flew a Spitfire the other day, and that was the first propeller driven model I had flown in over 6 months. This EDF Challenge thing started after I destroyed a Freewing MiG-21, by getting very slow with full flaps during my turn to final. It was a little windy, I traveled well past where I should have been and selected full flaps well before I should have. In a descending right turn, well behind on the power and speed I could not recover what I needed, traveled to far, lost sight of the airplane below the horizon and caught the top of the farmers fence for the grazing pasture, You have to see our field to get a better idea, but if I had been a foot higher, I might have cleared the fence. Not long after that I crashed a Freewing Su-35 in a landing accident where once again, I was not carrying enough power or speed. It was my second flight of the airplane, but my first landing. Not really what I...Continue Reading

Needed a break from the race car, and always wanted to fly R/C, so I am really enjoying the planes and the people. And learning to fly has been a great challenge that I am happy to say I am overcoming, with a minimal loss of airplanes, thanks to Real Flight.
