I'm a retired Commercial Pilot/Controller who's been flying RC since 1966. Now I fly Giant Scale Twins on a HORUS x12s, OpenTX v2.3.4, no flight controller, just a stabilizer for approaches in windy weather, and about 24 pieces of telemetry that will help keep me “In the Envelope”, should I loose a power plant.

I was also a Database Engineer, using Visual C & Visual Basic GUI's for a couple of decades, 30 years ago, but don't have the time to re-educate myself in new Script syntax.

I would like my telemetry on a Window's Tablet/Computer screen so my co-pilot can keep me on the numbers. But if I can get the screens to display what I want by pressing the Telemetry button and PgUp, PgDn buttons, I'll be happy. If you can help, please contact me at [email protected]

Sneak Peek on my Build Progress of the MinimumRC B-25 Mitchell Part 3

Here is a link to this Plane:

This Plane is Courtesy of MinimumRC!

The Airframe is complete except for the Decals on the Foam Panel edges ;-)
I just have the Motors inserted into the Nacelles so the Nose doesn't lift up.
The Controls Horns are installed as well and the Wheels are secured on the Struts.
I'm just waiting for the glue to completely cure and then it will be time to install the Electronics.

See you in the Air!

Brushed 450x Wing update (1 min 57 sec)

Right !!! Lets see ..

Soldered on a battery lead and a motor lead / plug for the hot little brushed 8520 .
Motor seems to run ok , servos look to work ..

This Rx / ESC combo might be sweet for that micro brushed project .

Next I need some control rods and then maybe I can go fly ?

i spent the month of May flying the crap out of my T-Rex 500X and my FireStorm. i started thinking about a larger F3A model and started doing some research. i made the mistake of calling Coyote Hobbies and Russ said he had a 2m Vanquish on consignment that only needed a speed control. Well, the next day it was on my bench getting the Talon 120 from my Raven installed in it.

This is the most honest plane i've ever owned. The Himaxx swings a 21x14 V2 Falcon prop.

i made some of my best landings ever with this plane. That's a good thing since the gear plate material is notoriously weak as was told to me by another Vanquish owner that just happened to start coming to our field the week before i bought it. (the front/back edges of the gear rocking back and forth cuts the material) so i laid in a 1.5mm carbon plate to help spread out the load of the landing gear.

i'm running a SmartFly Batt Share which pulls from a 2s LiFe pack as primary, and fails back to the Talon 120 BEC if the battery goes flat. Telemetry will warn me if a switchover occurs.

i got the bug for a small pattern plane and ran across the FMS F3A Explorer. It was OK, but a little too high of wing loading for what i wanted. i liked the concept however, and found Mountain Models FireStorm.

It took about 2 months to complete in between other projects. What a FANTASTIC flying machine. I lightened up the structure where i could and covered it with some SoLite from my stash. Having used them in my DLGs, i put MKS 75k servos in it, along with a Leopard 3536 running on 3s 2200s. 7 minutes of F3A flying and wing loading is under 11oz/sq ft! Static thrust to weight ratio is >2:1. What a FANTASTIC flying model. It flies much bigger than its size. It slow rolls beautifully, and lands like a feather. It also tolerates wind much better than i anticipated, which is good because our field in the summer has a nearly constant stiff breeze in the evening.

Pictures at the field were on the Maiden Day, and i had left the cowl off prior to settling on the incidence for the motor. i'll have to make some time to finish trimming it, it's definitely a keeper.

Maiden flight was 4/23/19

Sneak Peek on my Build Progress of the MinimumRC B-25 Mitchell Part 2

Here is a link to this Plane:

#GroundControlRC #GlueAndFly #ScratchBuildPlanes #MinimumRC #B25Michell #B25 #Bomber

This Plane is Courtesy of MinimumRC!

I have the fuselage complete with the attached landing struts.
The horizontal stabilizer and vertical stabilizers are glued in.
The wings and the nacelles are just dry fitted before gluing.
The wheels are on the axels but are not secured.
I have to glue in the wing spars, wings, nacelles, secure the wheels, and the airframe will be complete.
With a bit of luck, and time, I should have the Airframe completed tonight.

See you in the Air!

Test Flight #1 - Eachine Mini Mustang P51D RTF - Elevator Adjustment

Here is a link to the Video:

#GroundControlRC #GlueAndFly #ScratchBuildPlanes #Eachine #MiniMustang #P51D

This Aircraft is courtesy of Banggood!

Eachine Mini Mustang P-51D RTF

The Elevator on this Plane is just a bit too sensitive in Manual Mode.
I managed to remove the Elevator Control Rod and move it from the Control Horn center hole and relocate it to the Control Horn bottom hole.
This made the Elevator much less sensitive and certainly made it easier to fly in Manual Mode ;-)
I'm pretty happy with this Plane now.

XK A600 , gone in 60 seconds . (1 min 4 sec)

I seem to have found a serious problem ..
Playing with the XK A600 after repairs and watching this video ..
It would seem that the XK A600 kicks in left rudder when the plane is in certain orientation ..

One second I am fighting to keep control and the next it is flying ok , then suddenly it goes weird on me again .
I can only put it down to the plane suddenly kicking in full left rudder for some reason .

WOW ! So my last 4 planes have been horribly disappointing .

DLG glider with a warped wing .
XK A600
and a Stagger Wing biplane that was killed for exactly the same cause as my DLG ( Hard left turn built in )
Damn ..
Out of 6 new planes , 4 have been bad to terrible .

Back to the XK A600 ..
Perhaps part of the problem is that XK may have used a helicopter flight board ... (?)
Do we really need a gyro on the rudder ?
I have no choice , I have had to unplug the rudder servo ..

The XK A800 did fly like a normal RC plane , well a little bit ! The rest of the time I was fighting to keep it away from terrafirma .
Yeah , well the XK A600 Won in the end and it slammed the ground hard enough to break the wing .

Next outing !
No rudder , and a little bit of lead in the nose ..

Dynam Focke Wulf FW 190 Build Review (7 min 3 sec)

This is a copy of the post I recently added to the Micro EDF Jets and Power Systems forum.

Hey y'all,

I'm new to the RCGroups community, and the hobby in general, but I've always been impressed by other people posting about their great builds and fun ideas they try out. I'm especially inspired by FliteTest and everything they and their great community has put out to help people get into the hobby.

I've been flying a HobbyZone Super Cub (the old version) that I was given by some relatives... after the tail had been smashed. I fixed up the tail control surfaces with some foam board and it's been working well. I've finally got the inspiration to build a plane of my own... an indoor micro 25mm EDF jet!

So far, I've found and scaled down some community-generated plans for an Aero L-39 Albatros model (thanks Grifflyer!) and created a scratch-built EDF power system with a total diameter of 25mm. I'm using an old mini-quad brushed inrunner motor and clipped propeller, some 3d-printed parts, and a bit of thin (PVC?) pipe. I'm not sure what thrust it provides, or how to figure that out, but it has a nice kick to it when I hook it up to a 300mah 7.4v battery. Here's some pictures...

OMPHobby T720 RTF (12 min 25 sec)

I purchased a second hand T720 from a well know modeller ..
And having watched his video's I noted something of interest , he was flying and lost an aileron .

Long story short , that T720 ended up being for sale ! Yeah , can you guess who got it ? ..

Anyways !

I remembered that tit bit from the video !
Assembling the T720 , I checked the wings !
And found the right wing rocked back and forth enough for the control lever in the fuse to pop out of the aileron slot !
On close examination , the PLASTIC spar was broken ( See Pictures ) ..
From the way it was broken ( direction ) , I would hazard a guess it may have occurred when the wings were pulled out of the fuse or ............
If the T720 hit the ground and the wing popped out and then force was put on the spar when the wing was hanging lose ...
It's all speculation !

I hit the break with some cyno and it looked to hold well . To add strength I cut some inserts and glued them inside the spar for added strength top and bottom , .... See Pictures .

I like the modular design !
Unfortunately , every last video review I have seen :
The wings or elevators pop off on landing .
I don't think I have seen a single video where this did not happen ..

Anyways , hopefully a simple repair and a functioning toy .

I got to program a DX6 and maiden a clubmember’s new Somethin Extra. With the Rimfire 46 and 12/6 prop and 5S she goes vertical and rolls fast and symmetrical. Nice big loops and knife edges OK. Power off glide is long and faster than flapped models but is OK if you have the landing space. No aileron to rudder mix is needed. She needed just a little aileron and rudder trim then I set up wireless buddy box training for the owner. After about 5 minutes we ended up with ailerons on 30 percent. He has been used to flying an Eflite Commander with SAFE On. An AR 636 programmed to the Extra 300 3D specs will replace the antenna less AR620 receiver. My 4 ch version works great with RSSI telemetry but I could not get his to work and Horizon Hobby Technical phone support did not work.

The battery holder and prop spinner was not used. When I put the spinner on there was vibration at half power so it was removed. An Aluminum will be searched for. The 5S had 35 percent remaining after 3 flights so I figure it’s good for at least 9 minutes. More buddy box flying for familiarization is planned. Owner is still getting used to electric over glow power. Anyone recommend an under $100 sound system?
