Finally took my little 48" ws Lil Stinker out for her first flight. The evolution 61nt seems just right for this plane and worked as I'd hoped. Never got the nerve to kick in the high rates, but really didn't need to either. All the basic aerobatic moves were very smooth and loops are can be very tight or huge. Required 6 clicks of down trim for level flight, but everything else was fine at center. I did double bounce the landing, so I'm going to land a little faster in the future instead of trying for a three point. Hoping my camera man's not to busy next time I fly this one.

Well I've been busy in the work shop and have my little S-1S Ready to Fly. I've got her ready to fly and the Evolution 61 is tuned. All up weight is just under 7lbs. I think I've got my fill of scratch building out of my system for awhile The Pitts in the middle is a Cermark ARF that hung in the LHS for years. My flying buddy Bill bought it, then sold it to me at a ridiculous price of $125. Trying to decide on the motor for this one. Leaning towards a 180 4s or a PTE 36R. Now the big one is a Brisighella Skybolt that the previous owner of our LHS just up and gave me. Heck of a tip for doing some custom cabinet work for his friends wife. I've picked up a G45 and a G62 in the last couple of years, so I'm covered for power options for this bird.

BTW I've pulled the Saito 150 out of the Edge 540 and plan to put it in the TF P-47.
I managed to over heat my OS 75ax last summer and she needs repaired. Love that T-Bolt!

Well I'm getting a bit closer on the Pitts. Have spent more time building jigs and checking for wing alignment and zero wing incidence than actually building lately.

A few years ago I bought the plans from myunclewillies web site. I get a kick out of his web site, but these plans are just adequate. The air-frame feels lite and strong, and will fly well w/ the Eflite 52 on 5S or maybe this evolution 61 two stroker.I've had laying around. Almost forgot to mention the W/S is 48". 1/4 scale? .

PS managed to land the TF P-47 dead stick last Sunday into an uncut soy bean field, with the landing gear up. After searching for about 15 min, I found her undamaged and ready to go again. How ever I was not and took her home ready for another day.

While my youngest and I were out flying yesterday a Fortress flew by and today a P-51!!

Another work in progress. He's where I stand at roughly 5 weeks into the build. I've been very happy with the kits' materials and fit of the parts. I have substituted some of the fuse skins out for lighter weight wood in the back half of the plane and cut in as many lightening holes as I dare.

Finally maidened the Edge today. Things went great, even w/ a empty tank dead stick landing!!! This plane flys with real authority powered by a Saito 150 4 stroke.
Just basic manuvers, but I must say the knife edge passes were very straight and smooth. Seemed to have no nasty coupling issues. That's a new thing for me.

Nothing bad to say at all on this plane and engine set up. Good job Seagull, Saito and Spectrum (digital ht servos). She balanced on CG w/ no weights req'd fore or aft.

Just posting a quick pic of two of my current favorites. I've got six flights on the P-51 and kind of a short hop flight on the Jug(done late last year just to see it drive around, which almost turned into a flight. Creating stencils and painting the Jug has taken a fair amount of time, but I really prefer it over stickers.

Hope to fly them both very soon, weather permitting.

Just a quick update here. Managed to complete a short test flight and everything went well. I still haven't learned my lesson about maiden flights w/ wind over 20mph, but now I know she can fly and that is good enough for today.

This is very short video is just posted just to remind myself that I should not maiden a plane on very windy days. I've got the fuse back together, believe it or not and should start on the damaged left wing later this week.

I'm now convinced that this 6s battery is cursed and have ordered a couple of new ones to replace it. My RC warbird saga continues

Very happy w/ the maiden out of the way. Now I can get on w/ a paint job and some finishing details. AUW 4.7 lbs RTF, using a HK flightmax 3000mah 4S battery.
RC FW-190 first flight (3 min 30 sec)

Also working on breaking in the new Saito 150 4 stroke. Purrr. Hope to get this Seagull Edge 540 setup and flying in the couple of weeks.

Just got the plans printed for one of my favorite fighters. Erik (foamcasualty or tvcasualty here on RCG) has put together a great looking set of plans for this next blue foam project and it just happens to be about the perfect size for my runway and workshop. I know I should finish a couple of other warbirds I've got hanging around here, but will probably start cutting parts templates tonight.

Heading out to the strip to do another taxi run w/ the Top Flite P-47. The weatherman says it's only 99 degrees outside now, it was 105

Finally got around to flying the F4B for the second time today(7/4/11). Looked fantastic in the air and flew great. Landing was slow, down the middle and graceful. 3 pointer!

Second flight ended soon after takeoff w/ a dead stick in a wheat field. Not pretty. The section between the firewall and leading edge of the wing is trashed.

Most graceful plane I've flown I think and the largest electric. I'll rebuild her again, but w/ a few more balsa sticks and a few slight design mod's.

Finally got around to flying my 12 year old P-40 for the first time. Shes' equipped with a OS46AX spinning a evolution 12x6 prop. Managed to rotate the engine around so the stock muffler is hidden with in the cowl which leaves the head of the engine just visible. My hands are still a bit jittery here since I just came in from flying and most importantly landing her right down the middle of the runway. One hopped the landing, but that's normal for me anyway. Camera man ran out of film right before takeoff.

I really need to get the Boeing F4B-4 in the air but just ordered a 6S battery for her so she'll have to wait a week or so.

No real excuse for not putting the final do dads on the TF P47 and flying her except the fact that I've been to busy flying and maintaining everything else that has wings.

Oh BTW the Kyosho P-40 is a blast, I'm glad I waited to have the skill to fly her for so long.

Well I lost the horizontal stab and then the wings immediatley after that this afternoon coming out of a high speed run. Now I have and ARF again--crap!

I finally decided and installed an engine on the Jug. Did some test runs w/ my new to me used YS 120f 4 stroke and got to run for short periods of time and have concluded that it must be a pressure/ fuel supply problem. It's my first four stroke engine. Decided to go with this OS .75 AX and a pitts muffler I hadn't put to use yet. Mounted the OS on the test stand and she started on the 4th flip! Very quiet and smooth running so I mounted it to the plane. Great fit to the cowl. I weighed the plane on two scales and she coming in at 8.6 lbs dry. RTF weight will be under 10lbs easy, which is what I'd hoped for. The aluminum colored paint is really just an under-coat for the OD green/grey paint scheme I'm going with.

TF P-47 progress. Have sanded pretty much everything down and ready for paint. Ailerons,Flaps and Landing Gear working and ready to install the pull/pull cables on the rudder. Elevator control horn is hidden too.

Now if I could make up my mind on going glow or electric power I'd be all set

Nothing very exciting to show here, but here is the Thunderbolt (1/8 scale) and the fuse of my ME-109 (1/9 scale, H-J scratch foamie plans) sitting together. Gives a pretty good idea of what a monster the p-47 is in comparison.

Planning to glass the control surfaces tonight. A good size snow storm has hit today and work is closed for tomorrow. Hope to get some primer put on and then start the hinge points etc. 4 week to get to this point, so far so good.

I've finally got'en started building one of my favorite WWII fighters and its from a kit this time not from scratch! I picked this kit up here on RCG over a year ago and just have been to busy building scratch foamies. To power this one I also picked up a YS 120 4 stroker in the RCG classifieds as well. This is the most powerful engine I've bought so far.

So far this build has been simple and relaxing, except when I was trying to decide if I should do the scale L/G modification. Late last nite or really early this morning about 3:00am I came to the conclusion that the realatively simple changes weren't worth it and went w/ the TF plans. I'll be using mechanical retracts from Hobbico (all metal and no slop on the first set I've got in my Me 109). I have been cutting a little of the fat off of the bulkheads on those behind the wing to lighten her up where I can.

Can't seem to put the glue and knife away, on this one. Actually I haven't changed much in that way since I was a kid building Guillows kits in record time.
Any way this is what I've completed in a week of evening plus a weekend.
