During my time hunkering down due to the Coronavirus pandemic I have returned a Carl Goldberg Super Chipmunk to flying condition.

I picked up the airplane at the Westminster Maryland RC Swap Meet in 2017 or 2018, until recently I haven't had time to get it ready.

This airplane has been built immaculately, it is covered in monokote in the traditional Art Scholl scheme.

The airplane is fitted with an OS 91 Surpass II 4 Stroke Engine; stock muffler; Zinger 14 x 6 propeller; Futaba servos; Futaba S3008SB receiver and Futaba 10J transmitter.

During set up of the airplane I discovered the prior owner left behind a nice microswitch activated glow driver. I just had to trim the throttle servo arm slightly to ensure that it only comes on at or below 1/4 throttle. It is activated by an on off switch on the outside of the fuselage. When the airplane is not in use I make sure to leave the throttle servo at 1/3 throttle or higher to avoid engaging the microswitch in case the external on - off switch should get bumped. The sub C cell that lights up the glow plug was still OK, I was able to charge it and it does hold a charge.

I did make some modifications to the throttle linkage, it is the type that goes out past the carb throttle linkage and then hooks back to it. As it was it went out a little too far allowing the piano wire to flex some so it did not open the throttle correctly. I cut some of the wire off and shortened up the linkage back at the servo arm to account for

About six months ago I bought my first kit: the GWS AT-6 (EPS version). They're still relatively abundant and inexpensive, so why not?

I've chipped away at it for all this time, often waiting for parts, usually waiting for corrections to my mistakes to dry/set/whatever. Throughout all of this I've messed around with other planes in order to figure out many of the skills I'll need to actually fly this thing. Now that I have all the pieces, to include Tx/Rx/battery/motor/ESC/etc., I've turned a corner inits completion and am nearing the maiden, which should be this month.

Why I insisted on flaps and retracts on my first build...well, it's probably because good planes with them are so relatively expensive and I wanted those features too bad to fly this thing without them. This has cost me time and money, and has led to several mistakes that have caused significant delays. Namely, using the wrong epoxy at one point, despite reading the threads on this plane that warned against it. I thought I was careful, but I wasn't. This led me to learn about Foam-Tac, which is a great product, but not as easy to use as others make it seem.

Other challenges come from my fear of the wings splitting apart, brown outs, bad soldering, or just bad flying. Alleviating these fears cause more delays.

Then the retracts themselves. I just couldn't get a set small enough to not protrude beyond the wing surface, so my solution is inelegantly permanent. A failure will be a problem to say the least.

So after no further ado, here are a few pics of the progress so far . I'm yet to paint the beige parts or any part of the wing, but I have primed everything and installed all the servos, most control fittings, and protective shields for underwing components.

During my time hunkering down due to the Coronavirus pandemic I have returned a vintage Joe Bridi Dirty Birdy 60 pattern airplane to flying condition.

I picked up the airplane at the Lebanon PA RC Swap Meet in early March - that was one of the last normal things I was able to do before the onset of the pandemic.

This is a kit built verion of the airplane - it has been very nicely painted by it's prior owner.

The airplane is fitted with an OS 61 SF Engine; stock muffler; Master Airscrew 12 x 8 propeller; Tru Turn spinner; JR Servos; Futaba S3008SB receiver and Futaba 10J transmitter.

The prior owner said he did fly the airplane with an OS 61 size engine - that is true because the 61 SF dropped right into the airplane and the Tru Turn spinner with it's flush backplate fit right up to the nose with about 1mm or less clearance. That is as close as I would ever want the spinner to be to the airframe.

The prior owner did add some weight to the rear of the fuselage - after fitting my gear to the airplane I did find that it was a little on the nose heavy side but not unacceptably so. The battery pack is mounted behind the servos in the fuselage as far back as I could get it without having to do surgery (it sits in the main fuselage area toward where the wing bolts are - its securely mounted out of the way to the top side of the inner fuselage).

I fly off a grass field so I ditched the small wheels that were on the airplane in favor of 2.75" wheels. There's a

Yep Les Amis,

Do FPV simulators really help? What's the best way to get started in FPV? 🤔

In this video I'll give you my answers to both these questions

I go over . . .
- the benefits of using a Sim to hone your flight skills
- take a quick look at the "Top 3" Sims
- use one of them to build a basic custom track (in 40 sec's!)
- and demo 4 practice drills you can use to get started with FPV flight! 🤩👍

I wanted a disk wing model in my fleet, and tried to put as much star trek shape/decoration into it but still make it flyable as an R/C rocket glider. The star trek ships do not lend themselves to rear mounted motors as the disk and cg requirements are very far forward.

The disk is 19" and gives a much larger area than it visually looks, glide is quite good for the shape of the model. The deflector dish is the end of the nose cone I cut off, reverse and glue back in, the antenna is a piece of spare 3mm carbon rod I rounded off and drilled/glued into the dish. Dish is colored with gold sharpie pen, the warp engine front is tamiya acrylic orange brushed on, the decals here were hand cut but stickershock has the patterns now. Length is 47", disk is 19", 2.6" diameter, weight 11.25 oz rtf using a 24mm E-6 rocket motor. Wing is 6mm depron, warp motor is 9mm depron with 6mm depron laminated on both sides of the engine to allow some rounding to be done for visual effect. The disk decoration is simply a sharpie pen taped to a compass, for the larger circles I taped chop sticks to my compass to extend the legs and then taped the sharpie to one of the legs. The model required a bit of down trim for boost due to the draggy tail and high mounted wing, but that was it.

The day was very clear as was the moon, so I intentionally steered during boost to set up for a moon crossing which timed out great with the theme music.

DustOff Flight #3 - Eachine Mini Mustang P51D Warbird RTF Expert Mode in 6-8mph Wind Start to Finish ;-)

Here is a link to the Video:

Eachine Mini Mustang P51D Warbird RTF P51 P-51

This Aircraft is courtesy of Banggood!

DustOff Flight #3 in Expert Mode with Wind on the ground of 6-8mph (10-13kph) and I'm guessing 12-16mph (19-26kph) approx. 20 feet up.
I wish I could take off from the ground with this Plane but it's too rough here and it noses over.
It's a bit of a handful in this much Wind and the Wind got strong enough at one point where I could barely turn it back into the Wind ;-)
