TBS Source One v.2 Another Broken Arm (0 min 59 sec)

another broken arm on my TBS Source One v2, at least the third in two weeks ive been flying it... :/
Posted by LemonC | Jul 20, 2019 @ 12:40 PM | 2,417 Views
The arms are beefed up, extra 20x20 mount holes behind fpv cam on the main plate, main plate now has sunk nuts on it whereas v.2 had sunk nuts on cross brace. The v.3 therefor mounts the cross brace on the complete bottom, v.2 the main plate was the bottom with cross brace cutting into stack space potentially. V.3 has more fpv cam mounting holes, and the mount has a wider footprint now also.

Im crossing over to a new frame. The Source One is affordable and i like the open source nature of the project, 3d print files should be plentiful, TBS is a very reliable brand also...

First pack, i did break and arm, but i had ordered some extras, SWAPPING the new one in was very quick. less than five minutes. one of the screws does screw into the stack, but it didnt really upset the stack when i swapped in the fix at the field (normal a do at home thing for me)

I hit a metal awning and fried my fc during session two... Swapped my bardwell v1 from my old quad frame into the Source One build...

Flies well for my purposes so far. Hopefully the first broken arm wont be a repeated thing. I basically hit a small tree and rolled...

Xing 2306 2450kv added. Flew two packs on it this morning. Was nice. One arm is cracked unfortunately and no spares for sale anymore... :/

I also got to test out the new FOXEER v3 stubby lollipop antenna. They were wonderful compared to my old beat up pagoda. I was a bit worried the battery might interfere w the stubby but it was really good. I had an aomway 4 leaf and a patch on my aomway goggles. The reception was very good even when I flew behind myself w light trees in between. Definately good value so far. Not sure how long they might last though.

stubby does seem to black out if i get in the wrong orientation... upside down nose pointed towards me gave me a blackout twice so far... :/

Great buy.
0603 motors are sooo much better than my previous brushed setup for sure.
after lots of youtube research and consulting with some local whoop racers, i decided to upgrade the motors prior to getting into batteries.
went with Happy Model 0802 19000kv. When i did the swap, i also swapped my frame and replaced the camera mount with a small 3d print bit, which left my flyer weighing around .25g LESS than stock (dry, the scale was tippin a bit)!
Flight time was also increased, due to less amp draw of the 0802's...!

For props im using eachine 010 stock props reamed out to 1mm.

Ive come across the notion that using a solid pin jst connector will also help reduce inefficiency, i placed an order to try out some OG solid pins aswell, altho so far that mod has not been performed.

Batteries so far: on hand i have some tattu 220's, some eachine 250's, some racedayquads 250's and now some GNB 300's (got the 300s after the motor swap). the eachine 250s perform better than my racedayquad 250s, and the 300's give me about 30sec more than the stock eachine 250's. Next im gonna try the GNB 260's...

Hero Hypersmoothing (2 min 37 sec)

I tried out Hypersmooth for the first time the other day.

Also i was having an issue with my TBS unify race locking me into pit mode when id powerup my quad. I had set the vtx into race mode via the betaflight osd which at the time i didnt realize puts you into pit mode when i power on... After lots of resetting the damn thing, i finally figured out i had to unock the vtx via the button push method, once it was unlocked, then i was able to reset the vtx via the osd into 'free' mode... now it powers up 'normally' for me again. im generally a set it and forget it pilot... :/

Betaflight 4.0 Feels Nice (2 min 20 sec)

I resolved my bouncy betaflight 4.0 issue. I had Pippi FPV via youtube look at my blackbox data, he told me it seemed like i had a mechanical issue, i checked my frame and one of my front arms was a bit spongy bc it was cracked/delaminated a bit. Swapped in a new arm and had a chance to test fly it again... Nice and smooth now. It has a bit of filter adjustment, i will need to black box again soon and reevaluated my parameters.

**also this was my Wife's first 'co piloting' experience.

I had the day off and planned on flying a lot... My Session decided it was a good day to lock up on me so i decided to use that best buy warranty i had going on...

Cost me more than i expected but i walked out with a Hero 7 Black special white edition.

My tune was no good after the new Hero mounts were printed up, gave it a few goes, and i decided instead of starting over on betaflight 3.3 or something really old, i 'd just go ahead and update my firmware to 4.0.

First flights were no good, but i knew there was a different tuning method i needed to review first. watched some videos and ive pasted the freestyle cli changes recomended on the betaflight 4.0 wiki .

I also reduced the stock idle up percentage bc 5.5 seems way too much. giving it a go after work!

Cyclops 100mm FPV Frame with 1102 motors (3 min 31 sec)
Its actually the 130mm cyclops..

I got a problem fpv micro flying this weekend! So small and lite, it's safe enough to fly near my house. 1102 dys motors, 6a racerstar escs, 20x20 f3 board, tiny vtx and cam.

very underpower, but it flies.

using zippy 35c 500mah 2s lipo which are 34.5 grams with wires. i might try some higher c rating lipos near this weight, 450mah or something. also might try dif props. 2" seem to work better than 3" so far. tried Hq 3035t and HQ 2035Q... Flies almost like my tinywhoop brushed but flies longer and faster.

Flew six packs on my lunch break today...

my tune is way off.. i think i turned off antigravity when i had it plugged to my laptop the other day... totally dipping and flopping when im inverted. oh well.

also not sure if when i tweak my pid in osd if something is going on. my expo was zero when i m pretty sure i had .15ish set before bc i need a little expo and have been flying with it.?

not sure whats going on.

Also, im so proud i flew six packs and didnt break a prop today, only had one quad also.

i broke my arm, well my elbow, a few days before christmas, had surgery to fix that on Jan 2, 2019. I dont have a cast, and thankfully have a lot of mobility with my arm repair. Yesterday, i had a molar removed by a dentist. it was pretty gnarly, and i was terrified to have the procedure done, but with the Gas and novacain, i felt little actual pain. Totally had a psychedelic experience on the gas, but omg i didnt feel anything.

i also flew a few packs afterwards. only had two fully charged lipos but oh well.

I ordered a replacement motor and my first GPS from racedayquads yesterday also. looking forward to figuring gps out, then i plan on building a 6 or 7in rig for long range pursuit. I might go with the very cheap option frame, the TBS source one and 7 inch arms. with should be about $46ish... which seems to be a low price for a 7in frame. Id like to stick with my Hyperlight Flowride frames, and add 7 inch arms but they only have up to 6in...

*still cant do powerloops... :/

**i havent found any reviews on rcgroups about this FC, yeah its F3 but should be good for me.*** i hope i have a positive experience with it.

Just got one of these in yesterday finally. i went with it bc it has 3a 5v onboard, F3 with lot of accessable pads, Im gonna run it with a xsr-m, F3 should make the telemetry a bit less of a headache hopefully. Im putting it in my GepRC Sparrow frame - got my replacement arms the other day. I also got a Runcam Sparrow micro 16x9 fpv cam to throw in the mix. Waiting on DTX03 from Banggood US warehouse, should arrive any day now. why is their US warehouse...Continue Reading

i think i need to quit.

I got a qx7 last week. Amazing.

I just came from a turnigy 9xr (non pro). Was using a XJT module most of the time, did some telemetry mod that i never really used, had a AFHDS module and have a multi protocol module for my E010 micro also...

The QX7 is quite a bit lighter, smaller to hold, AND WAY smoother response on my multirotors. that part blows me away. The gimbals i guess are really that good - i always hear people talking about gimbals... The Qx7 really holds positions much better, i didnt expect that. It came with a neck strap and the metal hook to attach the strap to. super cool. I had some LSD turnigy nimh 2400mah batts to throw in it already, they're tight, but working great.

I saw the special colors they had on banggood, and didnt want to miss out on getting a special one, so i pulled the trigger and ordered one. I was tired of not being confident my radio was giving me the best performance also.

I ordered a Green one and it looks sooo nice. i thought of a purple one, but wanted a more popping color incase it was in the grass or something... the green is really bright, and my son likes green a lot...

Anywho. Im excited. i flew my ARC200 yesterday in a green belt with medium trees, was like a golf course almost, but more trees. It was some enjoyable flying.

Also, what's up with photobucket? i cant share my pics anymore i guess thru them...? If anyone reads this, what can i utilize to share pics? when i first signed up with rcgroups, i didnt have a way to share pics thru rcgroups, is that still the case?

Pretty much ready for maiden flight!

One of my motors needs to be replaced, but should still work for a couple sessions i hope.

Somewhat tricky build due to you need to use some specific parts to work with available space.

I decided i wanted this frame so i could easily mount my runcam2 hd cam. BUT when the runcam2 is mounted, it does not appear that im gonna be able to run 5inch props which i kind of a bummer... :/ Without a runcam2 on the back it will easily run 5inch props. I will be running Q4040 dalprops on my racerstar 2205 2300kv motors. they seemed to be nice on my 195 kim setup but i didnt use a runcam on that build...

I ended up getting new foxeer arrow ccd 2.5mm lens. It has voltage osd which is nice. I was gonna try a much cheaper cmos cam kinda like a fatshark cmos cam, but the connector was at the bottom and there is hardware right where the connector is which would be snapped off on a crash most likely... the foxeer connector is at the top.

The TBS Unify vtx i used has U.FL connector which is good bc less chance of vtx damage if/when antenna lead gets yanked (it will pop off instead of rip off). I used a 10mm lead with 90degree sma connector i believe. the flat backside of the TBS VTX i have allow it to fit in the mix pretty well. I also picked up a dipole antenna i can connect via UFL connector if i decide to lighten my load a bit.

(better pics soon/smudged lens :/)

Today i was having a blast on my lunch break, and destroyed my foxeer arrow!!!! >

My first CCD was a runcam swift, which i kinda hated. it was the previous version. i constantly had problems with it, mainly mounting. My two chassis ive been using are really tight. the darkside arc200 has little room in the front (or back) for mounting anything. i could not use the 4point mount with it, so i just mounted it with the two point option and it never held its position for anything. a few weeks ago i did a roll flip with not enough cut throttle, and ended up diving into a soccer goal and completely smashed my runcam swift. after mulling over a possible replacement, i finally threw on my old cmos quanum cam. luckily that cmos has about 120degree view which is/was just like my foxeer arrow (2.5mm lens) 120degree view. i also did not like that the runcam didnt have the same super convenient vbat osd info like my foxeer arrow.

Today, i was doing getting jiggy and after having passed under two soccer goals 20times successfully (over estimate im sure) i heard that softball bat pinging noise and lost my video feed. same damage. altho, the ccd chip didnt chip but definately came off the board and my 2.5mm lens is smashed up bad.

lame. oh, and my kim 195 frame is gonzo. i had cracked the upper lower deck a while back but it seemed ok to fly with, but when i busted my foxeer, i also severed the arm near the crack. (i have a backup frame that i m really excited to get going now - its a 220mm i believe, i will use my 2205 2300kv on it with T5040 props).

On a brigher note, my new 4s lipos should be arriving today! im going from 3s to 4s finally. altho i still really like my racerstar 2205 2300kv on 3s. i really wanted the 4s for my 1806 2300kv dys motors. i ordered tattu 1050mah 45c lipo which should be good i think and im wanting to build some 3in and 4in frame more-so for my next projects...
