I am new to rc groups, but have been flying for 15 years. I thought posting this would be interesting and maybe help others out when it comes to painting carbon z aircraft. I purchased this cub 1 year ago and just like everyone else, had the BEC go out on me resulting in a crash where the top part of the canopy was ripped from the fuselage. I was going to send it back to Horizon but figured, why not try to fix it seeing that I knew better than to fly it with the lackluster BEC/ESC that it comes with in the BNF version. So I started with piecing it back together using CA and carbon rods. Once I had the shape close to what it used to be I used, believe it or not, a automotive primer from Sherwin Williams Automotive paints that is a hi-build surfacer primer used to fill when priming. It comes in an aerosol and did it ever fill any voids I missed. After letting the primer dry, I block sanded the entire fuselage starting with 220 grit and eventually down to 600 grit. The surface of the fuselage looked like a composite airframe when I was finished and best of all, it barely added 2/3rds of an ounce in weight. When the surface of the fuselage was perfect, I used another automotive coating for the base colors. The red and they grey are Deltron DBC auto paints that I applied with and 1.4 HVLP cup gun. Really thin coats until it came to color. 4 coats of both grey and red. To add some detail I used the same product, Deltron DBC black and highlighted some details with my airbrush. Pinstriped it with automotive pinstriping and finally sprayed (2) coats of Omni 2/part automotive clear coat. The fuselage is done and am currently working on finishing both wings and struts. I am anticipating having this fun project finished by the end of November and will post more pictures along with video.

In my early RC days flying slope and power planes I looked forward to a quiet airfield and having the sky to myself. It rarely happened while living in Southern California or stationed at a Navy base. I sometimes went out of my way to find secluded places to fly, driving to hidden coves along the beach, inland to a remote hilltop, or up into the mountains where the giant scale sailplanes flew in some serious winds, piloted by guys with more guts than I ever had.

Now that I'm finally competing in aerobatics and need time and airspace to practice, I have mixed feelings about arriving at my club's airfield to find the gate locked and no one there. I have opened that gate after work and on weekends, and locked up long after sunset, more times than I can count. We have 85 members at our club, yet I am often the only one flying at our field.

Granted, I will fly in less than ideal conditions: in gaps between thunderstorms, in strong winds, in the heat and cold. Competition has made that a necessity. We did have a few pilots come out for our Chili Fly last Saturday, when the temperature was struggling to get above 40 degrees and the clouds threatened rain at any moment. I went back to fly again the next day, with the winds a bit stronger and the thermometer stuck at 40 again, and I had the field to myself. On a Sunday afternoon. I went after work today, with the air feeling balmy at 52 and the sun finally pushing back a week of gloomy skies, and once again I arrived...Continue Reading

Ok , I have the app on my phone ...
I hate the google app store ( sorry ) , but I find it a PITA .
Now I fired up my Wifi , connected my phone and tried to download the app ( nope )

I reset my phone to Fact Default ( deleting all apps etc not stock )
And Google refused to allow me to try and download again saying the app was installed Google ...

Try one of these links for the app :

So with the app installed I simply fired up the phones Wifi , connected to the drones Wifi and then started the app .
Yes we have video

Now I did try to fly the E58 via my android phone My recommendation is dont .. ( for me it sucked beef chunks )
Unfortunately you need the app to turn on the video recording , and for 720 its not bad .

I need some decent weather , windy as all outdoors at the moment .

My review of the JJRC H66 X-Mas Egg drone that has a really good 720HD camera for a toy drone and it also uses the gyro controller which works very well.

I was able to get the first flight on my turbine conversion today. It took me by surprise because of the short take-off distance using half flaps. No issues during landing with over 1/3 fuel still in tank..

I have converted my good old Kadet Sr., tri-gear w/flaps and .80 Rim Fire motor and will tow 6 1/2 pound glider but it's getting old now I'm looking for something newer, electric that will do the same. Looking at Beaver 2000 and Carbon Cub and would like advice and or suggestion's or perhaps you know of an even better plane! No gas at towing field, any advice will be appreciated.

with early winter hitting, i am getting back to my den and paint (my other passion), instead of model airplanes, so will not hear much from me. and when spring is back (who knows when) will fly again, but still not much to talk or explore new things, as i already have everything i need for a long time, and too many planes ready to fly, so dont have an excuse to build another
so long folks
and thanks to all that have been so helpful

Since the Cendeicne is now landing in peoples hands I did a video on the currently included directional patch antenna and its fitment

More info on the Cendence can be found in my review here

And Video review here

The Cendence Patch Antenna

DJI Cendence Patch Antenna Review For Inspire 2 & Free QR Bracket Design (11 min 27 sec)

The antenna is directional and I actually prefer it to the sticks with the Cencende fitted, while its obviously going to be more directional than the omni its not crazy at short range and you can be off, as for its performance it works well but I have no intention of sending out a 4K craft to test this my self, although lets just say I have pushed is as far as I am comfortable and then some and I was happy with performance.

As the antenna is screw fit I have created a quick release bracket that allows you to quickly swap it to the omni sticks.

The Bracket on Thingivers

Some more pics are at the bottom of this post.

The DJI Cendence Controller for the Inspire 2 and M200 is available to order from DJI now and is finally shipping too,

The new WPL B-1 RTR Military Truck has arrived. I have to say that this thing looks really cool. It looks better than pics can really show. It is a toy though. (To be expected considering how little it costs) Unfortunately we get no proportional steering, and barely any proportional throttle. It appears however that the platform itself will be very easy to modify to accept hobby grade radio gear, and a steering servo.

I have only gotten a chance to cruise it around my basement for a few minutes, and it's not a bad driving experience. Many kids will probably get a lot of enjoyment out of it straight out of the box. Hobbyists will be underwhelmed by it even if only for the fact that the steering is so limited by its lack of digital proportional movement. I love the fact that the battery goes under the hood, and the working headlights made it pretty cool to drive with the lights off. I can see a lot of kids using this truck to compliment their G.I. Joe toys. I wish the doors opened, but it'll be easy enough to stuff a driver in through the window.

As soon as I have some time I am going to do some disassembly, and I will get more pics. For now here are pics of what you get. All in all I am quite impressed with it for $29.99 I can't say that I'd be all warm and fuzzy about it for much more than that though....Continue Reading

UAV Forecast (2 min 12 sec)

Hello everyone welcome back.

In today's video I will be showing you a must have application for Quadcopter, Drone, Multirotor and R/C Plane enthusiasts. UAV Forecast is the best application that I have found to stay up to date on the current weather conditions in your area. You will be able to quickly determine if its safe to fly. I use it everyday. It helps me know what quad I can take out and fly based on the current wind conditions. All you need to do is put in your location and you are all set to receive the latest weather conditions.

You can find this app on the Google Play Store, IOS App Store and via their website. I highly recomend this app.
