Hobby shop Bob my flying buddy , asked me to have a look at his 120 Magnum FS cause it wouldn't even fire let alone run . What a disaster , jammed valves , cam followers , ring , bearings were dreadful . Rust everywhere. Took ages to get apart , the gudgeon being the hardest to get out , I thought it would be the inner cam bearing as usual but came out quite well. Had to rebush both ends of the rod, make a new pin , grind the crank pin , re profile the cams grind the ends of the cam followers to clean up , reseat the valves after grinding the faces . Had to be careful with the valves when grinding them as the stems below the heads were well pitted with rust , but they seem quite strong so refitted them . The ring was stuck in the groove so soaked it in Chemcarb overnite and after a deal of fiddling I got it out with out breaking it , but made a new one anyway . Put it all together and it's a very nice engine now , runs and pulls very well , little worried about the carb as the barrel had a lot of rust type build up on it , but cleaned and polished and it does all the right things on the bench . Ugh , I've written all this and now I've lost most of the pics I took !!!!

I've smeared a few planes in my time flying models, But this is the craziest one yet. Astro Flight 020 4 turn in a converted sloper. A 26' P-51 Dago racer. I hit a metal picnic table awning at well over 150+ Funny thing is...That's the motor after the crash. Motor mount, Still glued in. Motor shaft, Not bent. Prop, Not broken. Spinner, Missing and the other half of the the screw is broken off in the prop nut. Speed controller, Missing also. Crazy right.

A classic NorEaster romping up the east coast today and tomorrow.
Wrap around winds coming off Lake Ontario from the North West with rain changing to snow ,temps dropping from the 40's to mid 20's.......
Yup It's time to Slope

I cruised around with my Windrider Swift for around 45 minutes until my gloves wet through and my hands got cold,I thought "gee I would rather fly in snow than rain......
Was going to pack up and go home when the snow started {and + 22 mph winds }
Cant go home with out flying in the snow one more might be the last snow till next winter....probably not

Out we go with the Heavy Dan Wing ,ripped it up and down across the face of the hill as the squalls came through ,what a blast, didnt even feel cold wet hands and all .
I should have put my goggles, I let it get to far out around the lip of the hill and it got blown over to the back side ..
Oh well - soft landing in a tree .
I will retrieve it tomorrow ,my gloves should be dry by then

Actually got off my butt and stated cutting sticks again. Plus I had other projects on the bench that are now cleared. Just a couple pics of a new build of Gilbert Shumman's 1938 Rambler with an O&R .60 for power and she's going to fly in SAM O&R Sideport event. The engine in foreground is a mean, nasty snarling large intake/exhaust made in 1949 which was the last year of production for the sideport .60.

I had a Rambler a few years ago which I regrettably gave to someone who had a bugeyed passion for her then decided he didn't want it and sold to someone else. She was all setup with an O&R, ignition system and radio sans the RX. That will teach me I suppose....Continue Reading

Would appreciate your opinion - 1st attempt at answering question: “What’s the best motor for . . ?” Simple 5-Step Method & 1st Edition Micro FPV Motor Chart with 33 different motors ranging from 40 mm – 3 inch prop support and 2S – 4S. Looking👀 for your feedback on both the 5-Step Method & the Chart. Well-versed & experienced pilots may have this stuff down pat, yet others may not. Thought this could help some folks out, as at least a reference. Your thoughts please?

When I view the owner's manual for the 14SG, the throttle curve graph always shows the throttle stick (vertical line) on the left side of the graph. When I open this screen on my 14SG the throttle stick (vertical line) appears 25% from the right hand side of the graph. When I move the stick, toward full throttle, the vertical line only moves to the point which is 25% from the left hand side of the graph. I don't understand why the throttle stick doesn't initially appear on the left side of the graph, on my transmitter screen, and why the throttle stick travel across the graph is only about 50%. Your advice is needed!

This is our new concept for a long-range fixed-wing UAV.

The benefits of having a long-range UAV in search and rescue operations as well as in urgent transportation of blood and medicines are astonishing in terms of costs and effectiveness.

Surveillance operations and mapping are also two sectors where a similar air vehicle is essential for an efficient and fast survey.

From aerodynamic simulation: Speed range 20-30 m/s

                                                 Max payload 1.5 kg

Range: 600km (depending on payload and wind, using NCR batteries)

                                                 Power consumption 22 - 40W

                                                 High stability.

Wingspan is 1.8m, making this drone easy to transport with any vehicle.

We work to take into the market something that may improve the services also in developing countries with big land fields and under-developed street networks.

Soon the test phase will start,

Installation and Set-up
Please make sure that the inflatable is operated by trained operator(s), a trained operator is one that has been instructed in the safe operation of a particular inflation device and has completely read all instructions provided by the manufacturer of the ASTM recommended operations of inflatable structure devices
Tie Downs ( ASTM recommendation)
1.All air supported devices shall be anchored per manufacturers requirements.
2.All ground stakes/anchors shall be of sufficient depth to prevent movement of the device at the maximum allowed operational wind speed.
3.No more than two tie down ropes shall be attached to any one tie down stake/anchor.
4.All tie down ropes/straps attached to the device must be used.
5.In lieu of tie down stakes/anchors, a minimum of 75 lbs weight must be attached to each tie down. The weight used shall be of sufficient amount to prevent movement of the device at the maximum allowed operational wind speed.
6.In lieu of tie down stakes/anchors, sand bags, water barrels, metal weights may be used. No concrete or cinder blocks will be allowed.
7 . No tie downs to motor vehicles shall be allowed.
8. Ropes, tethers and tie downs shall be sufficiently strong enough to prevent breakage.
9 The recommended size is ½ “ solid-braided polypropylene with a tensile strength of 3700 or 370 lb test rated.

December 2015.

That's when the Venture was announced and that's how long I've been waiting for a kit version to arrive. Shortly after the original Venture announcement, they mentioned that a kit version would be coming in the future. I decided to wait for the kit. It took a while.

3 years and 4 months later, it is finally here! I can finally use the crawler track I built a couple years ago. I do have another crawler, a Tamiya CR-01, but I built the track with the Venture in mind. I'm on my second 3D printer now, so that will finally get put to good use for roll bars and other scale goodies. This was my original intent for it.

To say I've been patient would be an understatement. The longest wait ever is finally over.

How to tune PID´s on your miniquad in 10 steps! (9 min 6 sec)

PID tuning

p roll- sweeping turn
dips in corners – increase
oscillates – decrease

p pitch -
flies like on a bumpy road – increase
oscillates - decrease

TPA – do a punch out
oscillates – increase
a normal value may be .2 to .4

I roll - punch out and see if it stays level
if it drifts - increase
if it feels like you are flying through thick air or that you have to force it – decrease

I pitch - fly straight, flick the throttle
if loose and driftey – increase
stiff or robotic – decrease

anti gravity - locked in for quick changes
try 3 to 5

D roll - fly and snap half rolls
if bounce – increase
if stops but oscillates – decrease

D pitch – helps with prop wash, do quick half flip
if bounces – to low
oscillates – to high

go up and then straight down flat in prop wash
wobbly – increase D on pitch and roll
CAREFUL can make motors hot, small increases

YAW - do pirouettes and stop, LOS
if it shakes P to high
if it doesn't stay level increase P

Setpoint Weight
Freestyle – LOW might be around .6 smooth but loose
Race – high gives locked and robotic feel
