JJRC H31 Quad MOD Part1 - Beecore Conversion!

I have wanted to perform this MOD for quite a while on my JJRC H31 Quad but higher priorities pushed it back.
I wanted to a have a Toy-Grade Quad to fly around the property when time doesn't allow for packing everything up and heading to my Flying Area.
Tiny Whoops are a blast indoors but not that great outdoors.
I chose this Quad because it can handle light wind outdoors and it's very durable.
Those of you that have watched my videos Piloting RC Aircraft know that durability is a must for me ;-)

In Part 1 of this MOD we will remove the Stock Flight Controller.
Setup our Beecore V2 Flight Controller for installation.
Make necessary Modification to the Quad so we can install a Beecore V2 Brushed Flight Controller.
Then perform a short Test Flight to make sure everything is working as it should.

Part 2 will cover the BetaFlight Configuration changes I had to make.

Part 3 will show an FPV Flight once the FPV Camera is installed and the Tuning nearly complete.

My fixes:
1. add two cable tie to the camera canopy to resolve the video vibrations
2. add a cable tie to the video antenna to protect it
3. use textile adhesive tape to protect the motor cable
4. cut out the battery foam , so that the foam no longer presses on the front connector
5. replace the EOS2 camera with a Runcam Nano 2 if you have a FPV goggles with 4:3 aspect ratio

Hey folks,

A few years ago I followed Flights instructions on how to install a Habu SAFE receiver in a UMX Pitts, and it allowed me to fly the Pitts with a reasonable degree of control in spite of my lack of skill. The Habu SAFE receiver was mounted vertically in the Habu, so it also had to be mounted vertically in the Pitts, and while it was a bit of extra work, it was most worthwhile to have the use of SAFE.

After the release of the Cessna 182 with SAFE Select a year or two ago, it became obvious its brick could now be mounted horizontally in the Pitts instead of doing the vertical installation with the Habu brick. I just installed another Cessna brick in a second Pitts and thought I would document the procedure for others who may want to do the same.

To remove and replace the Pitts brick, the top half of the fuselage must be removed between the front of the cockpit and about a half inch in front of the tail. This section of fuselage is a separate piece and is held in place by tape only along the horizontal side lines, while a small amount of glue was used on the fore and aft surfaces. An X-Acto knife will cut the tape along the horizontal quite easily along with the vertical tape near the tail section. The vertical joint in front of the cockpit, however, is more awkward, and the knife blade will have to cut through the foam. Cut lines are the same on each side of fuselage; take your time, and it will come away clean.

The light weight spackle collapses a little after drying. It is challenging to make the final finish perfectly match with original surface. Here is my approach:
Material list:
  • Polyurethane glue such as Gorilla glue (either brown or white, I normally use brown)
  • small plastic piece slightly larger than target area, make sure medium flexibility
  • masking tape
  • paper towel for cleaning up

1. apply small amount of moisted glue
2. place the plastic piece over the target area, make sure this piece is just a little larger than the target area
3. use masking tape keep the plastic piece on the surface, waiting for curing. Keep an eye on the expanding glue under the plastic piece, clean away any protruding glue along the edges.

If the new surface is still not perfect, then either repeat the above procedure or fill with light weight spackle.

If the area is not too big to fix, and the model can handle a little gained weight, just regular spackle will do the job, giving you smoother and tougher finish.
