Hi guys,

After almost 2years of RC "sabbatical" leave I was able to finalize my DIY FrskyX receiver.
I had problems with finding a suitable RF module.I was not able to find until now.So here we start.

Today we start a new project(as title already mentioned) a DIY compatible FrSky "X" receiver (also known as D16).

To keep story short see below some characteristics.


- MCU STM32F103CBT6 .
- CC2500 transceiver module dual Antenna(diversity) with PA/LNA chip.

1.16 channels receiver compatible with FrskyX(D16) protocol working with Taranis all versions,Turnigy 9x pro(ersky9x) with XJT module or multi module,Devo TX(deviation firmware).
2.8 channels servo PWM(with channels selection output for 1-8 or 9-16 channels .See "Note") output.
3. SBUS 16 channels output (not inverted).
4.Full telemetry with SMARTPORT protocol telemetry(only for X protocol).
5.Antenna diversity with LED's on each antenna control line.This way is easy to debug if you have faulty antennas.
6.Analog ports 4 channels A1,A2,A3,A4.(Max 3.3V on each analog channel)
7.Programable failsafe from RX or TX(screen).
8.Power supply(5-8V)2S lipo max.
9.Range > 1Km(tested 1.5Km).

Thanks to Joao that helped me with testing this receiver he managed to get easily 1.5km range test on the ground level.
So it has plenty "punch".

This is the maiden flight of the chuck glider conversion into a fly wing type plane. Rcx 14xx 3200kv motor, 12A esc, x2 Jx 5.6g Ds/mg servo's and a 4ch frsky rx. Weight with 2s 300ma pack 77.6g. Will 600ma 2s it came in at 89g and flew very well. It's even faster on 3s

Yes ....

Hopefully playing with it soon ( eer I mean testing it soon ) .

Why ?

1) First thing that comes to mind is testing props .
2) Testing motors
3) Gathering data

What kind of data ?

Well , things like propeller efficiency .. Say you want to find the most efficient prop for a motor / plane @ say a certain speed or RPM range .
So lets say you have a range / selection of 12x6 props and your simply want to know which is the best ? And or rate the props .
With a suitable electric motor you spin up the props to 10,000 rpm ( for arguments sake ) and you see what current the motor is pulling @ what voltage for a WATT's reading . As well you would note thrust . These two numbers can be used to calculate efficiency = The amount of energy to produce said thrust .

This sort of testing would generate data for working out things like , thrust , energy absorption , and efficiency . And these numbers can then be put against real world results in almost any application from control line racing to pylon racing or possibly some sort of endurance situation like solar powered flight .

Nope ! I wont be doing any of that ....
I just wanted one to play with / eer I mean I always wanted to test one .

Time to check some motor prop combinations .

Brushed 8520 on the 450x wing .

30,000 rpm static Im calling it 30 , it went a little higher . So it should wind out more in the air .
Certainly explains why it's a little noisy .

1103 on the 450x wing (2s)
prop is a 3.8x3
And around 50% throttle I saw 12,000+ rpm
At full throttle ( motor cooks ) I saw a peak of 17100 rpm
For a 8000kv motor , this certainly explains why the motor is cooking ..

6A+ / 17100 rpm / 8000kv = Over proped !
If you do the math , Voltage x KV = RPM
4v x 8000kv = 32,000 rpm ( potentially on paper ) 20 something would be more realistic .
Oh man ! What was I thinking .. It's 2s ...
8v x 8000kv = 64,000 rpm ... So 40 something K would be more realistic ,
I have ordered more props , I think they are 3x2 or some such ( smaller anyways )
Will be cutting down one of the props included in the kit , I will cut and cut till I see a 5A peak .

It's good to have a functioning tach !

Looks like no more 1103 for me ..
I ordered a 1105 and a 1106 ..
And I thought this Wing might be Budget , the budget is Blown !

I purchased this model about 10-12 years ago(I think ) and I've never been completely happy with how it flew, so I'll be stripping the covering and making a few minor changes to the airframe. The main issue is with the stab, the incidence is out a little making it difficult to trim. Had to fly it with a considerable amount of up elevator trim. I also want to change the color scheme. Not sure how long this project will take. It'll run parallel to my Super Kaos .60 build, so it may take a while.

I liked the looks of the new Eflite Havoc, but heard about all the issues with it having unexplained crashes, so I decided to just get the fuselage parts and kit bash it. Iím a huge fan of delta planes and have created and flown several prop delta planes but never an edf one. So was the creation of the Delta Havoc. It's got all the guts of a Freewing 80mm Avanti (edf, esc, retracts, etc) and it's got Hitec servos. It's been to windy here lately, so still waiting to do the maiden....Continue Reading

My P-51B plans called for a tray between the wings. The tray fits into the fuselage. And when attaching the wing, there was a 3/8Ē gap. Lotsa balsa and plenty of basswood in that little tray. Not finished, but past this hurdle.

This portion had to be scratch-built because the plans didnít come close to the reality of the wings and fuse. I was given good advice to complete the fuse and wings first and then custom-build the center tray.

Update: finished the tray and love the way it links the wings. The scoop is like a cool doodad hood ornament.

Okay good people,

First off, this has ZERO to do with the Re-Release of this same model by Horrizon / E-Flite a few weeks ago!

Besides Rocketsled666 who I know is going to say NOT to install any more additional items to make the Retracts work better because one is adding more stuff to fail (failure points), I am wondering what the REST of you OUT there have experienced with these Electric Retracts by E-Flite?


Because at the start of initial activation of my Model the Main Retracts will NOT come DOWN so, I can taxi this large & heavy model. Yes, I store this model with GEAR-UP. I would have to disconnect the NOSE Wheel Retract in order to get the MAINS DOWN and then, Disconnect the MAINS and reconnect the NOSE retract so, ALL gears would be in the GEAR-DOWN position.

Not only is this a Hassle but, unnerving from a stand point of flying this model and placing the Retracts in GEAR-UP position as I am NOT certain if they will come back down????

I have the NOSE Retract and the Mains in a Y-Connector and the Output plug towards the Receiver so, NO separate Battery configuration as of yet.

My QUESTION "IS" does anyone have experienced this issue and if so, how did you solve it?

My current project is refurbishing this Sig LT40 my father built in the early 2000ís. He gave it to me about a year ago and I put a few flights on it but the GMS 47 engine gave me too many dead stick landings so I hung it up. It was also a little tail heavy for my taste. So I pulled it down recently and removed some of the covering at the back, dremeled some holes and recovered it. I also made some adjustments to move the radio forward. Finally, I decided to sand and repaint it. My father had painted it white and used some red pinstripes along the fuselage. I was feeling fancy so used some masking tape and Rustoleum and went to work.

Next Iíll tackle that pesky GMS engine.

I have a mobula7 with new fc cause the stock one burns. I soldered the vtx and the power cable. tested if there will be power in the fc so i plugged 2s battery. And it works. conected to betaflight to set it up (without battery). Then here comes binding it with the tx, plugged the 2s battery but no lights. Tried connecting to usb and lights on. Watched and read some articles about this and said 5v regulator is destroy. So i followed their video in bypassing the 5v regulator and soldered an external stepdown 5v regulator directly from power pads to any 5v pads available (i chose the led pads). After soldering, and plugged the battery, lights on again. So i continue to bind the rx to the tx and it was successful. BUT when i try to arm it. Motors are not spinning. I checked the betaflight, min_check 1000, small_angle 180, modes tab are correctly done. Been to receiver tab and i can see everything is moving or responding to the tx. I tried different motor protocol. And i uncheck the motor stop when armed. Can anyone help me with this?
