Mud Dabber is a Sig Mk I "Kadet" I built in the early 1980's. It's name came from the way my grandma pronounced the type of wasp-like bugs that build their nests from mud "dabs" they pack through the air.

Drawing inspiration from Don McGovern's "Boondock Bird" design from the 1960's, Mud Dabber was intended to fly from any ole handy patch of dirt (or mud, if need be).

About the time of it's completion, the factory where I worked was sponsoring a "Run/Ride-a-Thon" for a charity, and I decided to make my contribution by way of having a "Fly-a-Thon", with Mud Dabber following the route.

A friend and fellow flyer donated the use of his pick-up, with another good friend manning the camera.

On the evening of the Run-a-Thon, we launched Mud Dabber from the parking lot of the factory, and set out on our adventure. In those great old "pre-terrorist" days, I never gave a thought to asking permission from the plant management, or the state park where we would be landing, and just went our free spirit way.

I'd equipped Mud Dabber with an auxiliary fuel tank under it's right wing, and intended to make the 9 mile flight non-stop. During test flights, the tank worked just fine, as long as I DID NOT try to throttle down Mud Dabber's O.S. 35FP engine. For reasons too nerdy to explain here, it had to stay at, or near, full power to keep running.

As we hit out, it quickly became obvious that Mud Dabber was going way...Continue Reading

After 10 years of flying the nitro version converted to electric it sucumbed to a dumb thumb,, , I then tried the EF E-Version Outlaw of which I quickly folded in half in 3 weeks time, After a 2 year withdrawal I found a NIB " Ole Skool Nitro" version and decided to recover to a Hi-Vis color scheme and some cooling/drag imporvements for the upcoming 2020 season.........

OMP Hobby T720 Maiden .. ( The following is the expressed opinion of the current owner of this plane )

It does fly and fly well ( Stabilised Mode ) . I was actually able to really slow the T720 down a lot . It flies very slowly . This is good as it is still very stable and leaves the operator with plenty of thinking time . The T720 is a little rearward CG orientated making it sensitive to the elevator , even in the stabilised mode . The little 300mAh 2s batteries really do the job , and after 6 minutes of flying the battery power meter reported 58% remaining ( When I got home ) .

It is a DINKY toy transmitter . What makes it look half way decent is the stability mode built into the Rx flight board . Turn off the stability mode and you will instantly discover two things . The rearward CG and just how bad this toy Transmitter is . The T720 deserves the ability to be bound to a hobby grade transmitter . Seriously , the stability control built into the plane itself makes the Tx look decent when in stability mode . I would rate the Tx Rubbish for what it is ..

T720 ( The plane boss - the plane )

Stabilised mode ................

Really like the plane itself . It ticks all the boxes except for one . The CG is too rearward . Find a larger battery ( heavier ) that fits , like maybe a zippy 350 ?
Factory 300 = 16.9 grams / Zippy 350 = 21.7...Continue Reading

Dear Fellow Flyers, I received a never flown Cap 232 today for free and the wings that are still in their plastic are totally Mush! They have been destroyed by moisture while in someoneís possession. Iím asking for help to learn the manufacture of this plane so I can buy a set of wings to match.

I am new to OpenTX and Jumper, coming from a Futaba background. I borrowed the idea for a spreadsheet from another RCgroups member who did it for a Frysky X10. I use a spreadsheet for my Futaba and Jumper radios.

Page 1 of a Spreadsheet for JumplerT16

I only fly Spektrum UMX planes and Blade Helicopters so the samples are from those craft. The templates can be modified for your own use. These helped me keep my programming methods clearer in my mind so I could remember what I did and where. I also included the OTX files which go with the spreadsheet so you can see the correlation and use companion. I should caution everyone that I am new to OpenTX so although they work for me use at your own risk. The spreadsheet provides a brief description of the Logical and Special Functions.

Many people had questions on what the push-button switch would be used for so I included a model for my P47 UMX which has a sound card and uses the buttons along with switch SH for different sounds. I only have the template set up as it has not been tested on this model yet. I do fly with the other models so I know they work. I have included an OTX file for a UMX Pitts Blade Nano CpX and a UMX P47 which has flaps and landing gear but no sound. The other item on the templates which has not been tested is the SAFE related functions, as presently I have no craft with SAFE receivers.

You will need Microsoft Excell to open the spreadsheet.

OTX files are using OpenTX 2.3.5;

My friend Alex invited me to fly his FW L-39 setup with DJI HD FPV system as chase plane as he flies a FW F-14. It was an eye opening experience, since I am not used to the speed flying FPV in jets. And the DJI FPV visuals are gorgeous. My fingers could not stop shaking the whole flight, so exhilarating! I will need to setup one for my own.

Feast your eyes in 1080P on large screen. The visuals are stunning. Near miss at 2:00....

I decided to do a 150% upscale of my avro arrow, I was able to use 3" tubing, and a better nose profile cone, using single ply 9mm depron with a little carbon reinforcement and get a 37" wingspan version that comes in at 27.4 oz rtf using a 32mm G-12 8 second burn rocket motor
Accents and panel lines with sharpie pen and self adhesive vinyl. Roundels, and lettering from Stickershock23. Sims show a boost altitude of around 600'. Goal was trying to keep weight really light, using a profile of the intakes and working with a nose cone and tubing I could easily get. About 1:17 scale. This uses elevon only since I don't need rudder for boost and glide, running off a single 500mah 1s battery, very lightweight setup.

XK x450 maiden (5 min 59 sec)

A) Battery is all the way forward = Excellent hover !
B) In level flight the x450 hunts the ground
C) Transition is insanely smooth
D) The only thing I can complain about is the x450 hunting the ground in level flight .
E) Flies slower than expected in level flight
F) The altitude hold is really good ( Hover Mode )

When I came home I gave the elevon connectors two turns of up .. The other option is to change the angle of the motors in level flight ( Maybe ) or the position of the battery perhaps . ( Change one thing at a time ) Battery voltage was about 3.94v per cell when I came home and put the battery on the charger . Looks like 5 minutes with the supplied battery should be safe , maybe more depending on how you fly it .
I am impressed , and if not for the ground hunting I would have given this one a 10 out of 10 , as is the score will be 9 out of 10 . Also if not for the ground hunting on my sample , I would call the x450 the perfect beginners plane .

I got mine from BG for $99.99 USD and it looks to still be at that price ..

The Crawler (0 min 55 sec)

Posted by DTD_2112 | Jan 27, 2020 @ 05:23 PM | 3,633 Views
I visited a crawler track at the back of a hobby shop about 23 miles away. I got a lot of good info and picked up a few tips. Iíve started to make some changes and we are starting to add a second elevation on the crawl area of our track.
The boxes will be filled with rocks or boards of various offcut sizes on their ends that will have plenty of ways to get to the top. Tomorrow Iím building the rickety old suspension bridge. The red ink in the one photo is where the rickety suspension bridge will be built to get up to the next level.

Just an amazing Prop Jet model, especially with the Electric Power System. It has been perhaps 2 years that I have not flown it so, I got the step stool and lower it down from hanging all this time. Dusted it off and checked all systems and afterwards, headed to Moon Port on Sunday, 01-26-2020. It flew for 3 flights and didn't disappoint!

A Few high resolution and wide bandwidth pictures can be seen at:

Enjoy the Video below.

My new project is to build a Jodel D9 "BeBe".
The kit is from RBC kits.
I still get some tips/tricks which help me building this plane, it's my third kit (1st Red Eagle glider, 2st Chica).
At this moment i am building the stabilo and wing. See the pictures.
Motor will be : Propdrive V2 4248 650KV
Receiver: Spektrum , type not sure yet
