I inherited 6 RC Planes, tools, parts & related gear. My favorite was an original Carl Goldberg Super Chipmunk. I've already removed the glow motor, mount, tank & old electronics for a fresh electric power plant & modern electrics makeover.

I've been flying packs every chance I get. It's cold & windy outside so limited fly time is expected.
Had some good flights. I'm getting more comfortable on the sticks & considerably more aggressive. NOT a great pilot, just more ball'sy. Lol.
I got some cool LED's in the mail so after a lite crash I started wiring them in. I decided to clean up my build at the same time by shortening motor wires & direct soldering them to ESC's.
Now that I can do pass thru blheli32, I can reverse motor directions without switching wires. This allows clean, flat wiring along my wings. But I had to flash to BF to use BL config, correct direction, activate ESC LED's, then flash back to iNAV.
Busy day but the new lights look fantastic!

Just got word that my son can join the RC Club & AMA free if I join & sponsor him as a member.
He has had several really good beginner quad flights without incident. So I'm proud & excited.
I'm about to offer him the parts to build his own quad. I want him to learn the satisfaction you get from learning new skills & completing your own creation.

Rain all day long, rain forecast for 2 more days.
Can't fly... So sad..
No parts to add to quads. Cabin fever setting in.

On my test flights, my copilot wearing the goggles was complaining about the picture flashing and rolling. I first thought it was radio interference. But I found the camera was resetting, rebooting and the cameras on board OSD was randomly working.
I traced back to the power supply. I was powering both the Run-Cam and Vx from the filtered 5v of the FC.
I move both camera & Vx power to 10v filtered supply on the PDB. Problem is gone.

Now on this F7V2 Omnibus board, I was having an issue that when I applied VBat to the board it would shut down. So I decided to just use filtered 5v in from PDB.
I had seen on Blue Falcon ( RIP JC ) that some Omnibus boards have weak or faulty voltage regulators. Feel pretty confident this is the case with my board.

I've been working on test flights & still being new to RC, my orientation with the quad in the air has been a challenge. I'm doing well when the quad nose is straight out ahead of me ( as you might expect). Once I begin turning I get out of whack fast.

I added a flashing red tail light & oh boy that made a huge difference. The LOS reference point at 100 yards was just the ticket..

I've been exploring the LED programmable areas of the FC & now I see the great potential benefits of marker lamps on my quad for LOS.

I opened the first package of my first quad kit on Christmas Day. My first day in the RC world, not one minute of RC flight. One month later I've got 2 fly flying quads with GPS/NAV/FPV!
Now I need to get enough packs under my belt to feel like a real pilot.

Big day!

Phone meeting with local RC Club President. Got full assurance that the club would welcome quads into the group. Make accommodations for quad fliers & even sponsor quad races & competitions!

Flew 2 packs on my first quad build, broke 2 props... No other damage, = success!

Got the bugs worked out on my second quad ( first FPV) & made the first test flight. All worked as expected: Arm, liftoff, circled the field, goggles & OSD.. Looking Good!

I've been banging my head in the wall, several different walls.
I was having GPS issues with my F4 board so I wired in an F7 board. Solved some issues then ran into other ones.

Switched back to my F4 board only to find I had lost PWM output from board to motor #1.

Switched back to my F7 board & found that it will no longer take VBat input. Anything over 5v locks it up. So I used the 5v from PDB & its fine but I lose battery telemetry & that SUCKS. I think the onboard voltage regulator shorted out.

But I was able to perform several successful test flights. Woohoo! Now I can at least fly some packs, teach myself how to fly. Big smiles.

On my second build, full feature FPV & GPS, I installed another F7 board. After many hours tweaking and debugging, I find this board also locks up after being powered on for a spell.. maybe another regulator issue? Brownout in the board? Not sure yet.

Think I'll move all powered equipment supply over to the PDB, feed the board 5v instead of VBat to see what happens...

Never quit, keep trying.

Practicing build planning. I like clean & practical.

As I've been growing in knowledge & making mistakes I've had to adjust my builds.

I was having issues getting my GPS & MAG running. I tried doing the pull up resistor mod to 2 different GPS puck without success.

I decided to remove my F4V3 board & install my F7V2 board into the first build quad in order to see if I had a FC problem or just bad pucks.
It turns out I believe I have smoked both my pucks doing the Mods.

While doing the board swap, I added the Run-Cam Pro2, Video TX to the quad.

I have new DJI pucks ordered for the builds along with another F7 FC.

I also have 2 sets of BL-Heli 32, 30A D-shot ready ESC's in my parts box.

Once I get all my goodies installed & configured I'll be ready for test flights.
I can't hardly wait.

Hey Everyone!

I'm new to RC & Quads.. I have an electronics background, Good with all the assembly, fabrication, soldering, schematics, etc...

I wanted to start a hobby that expanded my electronics knowledge & one that I could share/teach my kids & have a ball at the same time. RC Quads seemed to be the obvious choice.

I am currently building: Completed / not flying yet

250mm All Carbon Nighthawk
EMAX MT2204/2300KV motors(came with kit)
12A BL Heli OneShot 125 ESC's (came with kit)
FrSky X9D-plus
X4RBS / SBus
Matek PDB
Floureon 4S 45C 1500mAh
Omnibus F4 V3 Pro FC
M8N GPS w/ MAG
Running iNAV 1.8

I wanted to build this Quad & learn as much as possible to get my feet wet & learn to fly.
I have a large yard & a giant open field across the street as an all line of sight playground.
I am having issues getting the GPS & MAG working properly. I need to resolve these issues before I can get off the ground. I'm thanking everyone in advance for any help & knowledge I can gain here. I also apologize up front for any dumb questions I have. I'm positive there will be some.

I also have a second build: Incomplete

250mm Nighthawk ( same kit as above )
X4RBS / SBus
OmniBus F7 V2
iNAV 1.8
M8N w/MAG

Adding:
Run-Cam Eagle Pro
Mach 2 Video Transmitter.

Please feel free to question, comment or bash.
