Gets to be a bit of a job of work to follow someone's posts on how they worked through building Gary's plywood sailboats.
What follows in not in order of work date but just topics that some may find some value from. Many have since been modified as I gain experience with two schooners and two sloops.
Feel free to comment or ask me about anything I've written (PMs are fine), sometimes it takes a bit of clarification.

Here is how I've gone about making my latest. It is pretty much standards procedure but may have some aspects of interest to some of you.
Fin box construction ideas.

Select the best quality ply for this if your sheet is not uniformly prime all over.
Cut the pair of sides exactly to the plan.
It is prudent to make a fiberboard template of the fin in the same thickness to build the fin box around and to include the locking holes. This template makes marking the aluminum precisely when making the keel itself. I strongly recommended this template. It will be also used to line up the fin box in place, vertically before fixing into place.
The inner surfaces need to be coated with a durable, 100% waterproof coating which is epoxied fiberglass matting.

I have been involved with RC for as long as I can remember. My first RC was a toy grade Radio Shack Lamborghini Countach. You know. Like the poster car that every teenage had on their walls in the 70's and 80's. I had three of them. Anyway. I progress into hobby grade cars and trucks to nitro and electric boats.
It was until later in life when I had a life changing injury at work. I found myself with a lot of time on my hands. i went to an RC airshow. I won a raffle prize. A Hobbyzone Champ S. I was hooked. Now, I am flying aerobatics and CP helis. I get out to the field every day the weather permits it. I still enjoy driving my RC trucks just as much as flying....Continue Reading

Well, this attempt went much better as far as the plane itself. Takeoff was a bit hairy but once it was up it was much more stable than the maiden flight. Actually had the flaps deployed for takeoff and I think it helped. Problem occurred went I turned on final and lost orientation as it came in below the tree line. Before I could re-orient myself went into a stall and then nosed in. Wasn't a fault of the plane just the pilot. I shouldn't have tried to talk to my photographer while making the turn to final. Oh well.

Actually, I have decided to take the good parts left and use them in the Guillows P-40 kit I have. Wish I could have kept from crashing her as she was really stable this flight.

Here is a design of my push pull linkage for my steering wheel. I bought these parts from Home Depot the nylon spacer and 3/16 wood dowel. The micro servo are the sg90 and some other cheap micro servos.

1.Drill a hole on the side of the spacer slightly smaller of the size of a m2 screw. You want to make your threads while you are turning the screw. Once you are through to the inside of the spacer, back it out then slide the spacer onto the dowel.
2. Make sure the screws is long enough to penetrate into the dowel.
3. I cut a piece of the vinyl fence bracket to attach the servo with.
4.Once i figured out where to put the servo, I used plastic modelers glue to attach the servo holder in place.
5. I used my dremel to cut the dowel where it would line-up to the top of the servo.
6. Then I attach the servo horn to wood dowel. It fits
perfectly and it made its own groves into the wood. I used CA glue to glue the servo arm to the dowel. Next i drilled a small hole into the end of the dowel and screwed the tiny screw ( that came with one the plastic gear servo) into the end of the dowel to hold servo horn in it place.
