I guess some will wonder who I am and have chosen to look at my Blog.

A few people have it seems. As at March 2021. This page has had 24,784 visits So here is a brief run down.

I have been aeromodelling since I was ten years old.

I started with chuck gliders and progressed to C/L in my high school years.

I had a work related back injury and took an interest in Radio Control.
Still maintaining an interest in Control line, Free Flight and Slope soaring.

I prefer to build my own models. ARF models dont hold much interest for me.
Flying is not all of what this hobby is about for me.

Building models and talking about construction techniques is where its at .
Balsa and tissue, EPP foam gliders all have their special challenges.
Tanks and Bell crank fittings for Control Line Models all have their special challenges.
Covering and Painting techniques are part of the process which ARF does not address.

Some of the construction is beyond me. Composite Gliders for example.
Although I am currently working on a Tomahawk 1.8 metre composite glider which has been a big learning curve.
Best leave that to the guys who have done the miles in researching the use these specialized materials.
Although there is great skill in fitting one out and setting it up for successful flight.

In 2012 I was diagnosed with severe cataracts on both my eyes and stopped flying RC.
You dont need to see well to fly C/L. So I continued to fly...Continue Reading

Becoming increasingly frustrated at the lack of new blood in this obsession/addiction that some of us call a hobby I am trying something different.

Being a Scout leader. I am able to guide some of the youth members away from a life of crime and introduce them to hobbies.

Some of them (in fact most of them) have never held a hobby knife, sandpaper or sniffed glue and dope.

Something simple to start.
How about a Frog WASP 12 catapult glider.
Plan PDF attached.

I couldn't wait for a battery so I tried an Alula pack.

I measured it up and cut the hole right through. Put the battery in.

I put it flush with the top and stuffed some Gorilla glue and epp back in underneath.

Looks ok and I can live with the weight difference.

Taking some pics as I go.

I did a bit more today.

Cut holes for the Servos and potted them in with some Goop and foam cut outs.

When that was all dry I cut off the excess EPP and sanded it off flush on the bottom.

Fitted the receiver and hot glued it in. .

Just need some Flash so I can see it.

Covering is Solartex and it went on like a dream with some spray adhesive.

A light going over with the covering iron and I am happy with the result so far..

Some colour needed and then fit the elevons and tiplets.

Battery is a 4.8 1/3 AA Alula battery. 5oz with all the pieces.

Wheeeeeeee I had a box of Slope Monkeys turn up today.

Started putting one together and took some photos for a build log.

Stay tuned to this monkey Business thread..

OK So I started last night.

Put the wings together fitted the spars and shaped the tips.

I put a balsa trailing edge on the wing to stop some possible warping and add a bit of stiffness. I stole this idea from my NCFM Moth and Ubermoth builds. The pic is of the Ubermoth wing..

Pu glued the leading edge and tips. Also the spars and trailing edge.

What the heck. I did the rest too.
