DJI have launched a new version of the Ronin called the Ronin-SC

The Ronin-SC is a single handed gimbal for mirrorless cameras that can support models up to 2kg and provides 3 axis stabilised footage whilst on the move.

Being smaller and lighter than the S the Ronin-SC weights just 1.1kg and is specifically designed to be used with mirrorless cameras such as the Panasonic GH5, Sony A7 and A6500 Series among others.

This new smaller Ronin-SC has many of the features that we have already seen on the original Ronin-S however DJI have added a number of new features such as ActiveTrack 3.0 and Force Mobile.

Here is my video overview and review of the Ronin-SC Pro Combo

New Design

DJI have overhauled the arm design of the Ronin-SC, this means that the arms donít clash in most cases and that it now folds away a lot easier and will fit back into its case even when balanced for most cameras.

So after seeing Flitetest release the FT Edge it totally blew my mind on how awesome it looked. Unlike previous Flitetest foamboard designs, this thing had more curve and sleekness to the design. It made me wonder if Flitetest used some other material besides foamboard to make it look that good....nope, the plane was made out of foamboard. So that really attracted me to the plane and made me add it to my never ending list of plane projects.

Looking at the Edge briefly, I kinda thought it may be too complex of a build and that I might just make it a low priority project. Perhaps something to tackle next year. But thanks to the awesome Flitetest community and Flitetest forums, folks encouraged me to go ahead and proceed with the build. So here it is, in its early stages.

FT Edge: Build Intro Part 1 ....What have I got myself into? (9 min 8 sec)

Expect to see more Edge build video progress and eventually a glorious maiden flight (hopefully without a crash) video.

I've had this account for some time, but haven't made any entries, mostly from be swamped with involvement in my club and other pursuits. I've decided to post some notes, photos and videos from my Facebook, along with others as this develops.

All statements are my own, about my own experience with various miniature flying machines. I claim no expertise in any area, other than maybe at having fun...at which, I feel I'm pretty much a "Fun Ninja"...I have a blast with this stuff.

Because of the audience I anticipated on Facebook, many of these posts are geared toward new flyers or people with interest, but limited or no experience in the hobby.

I'll try to respond to comments in a reasonable amount of time, but there may be some stretches where I don't get back right away.

We'll see how all this goes...
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Earlier in the month, I'd posted a few photos on my Facebook page of this little "Storage Locker Rescue" I'd named Lil' Punkin.

I'd been waiting for another nice evening to get some footage of the whole plane from it's top camera (having so much fun, I forgot to do it on that day), but haven't had a chance to try it.

So...I crunched together some footage of what I had.

Lil' Punkin is a rudder-only model---it has no elevator to control pitch, so has to be carefully balanced and trimmed for a gradual climb while the engine is running, then transition to a smooth glide when the engine quits.

MANY early R/C planes were flown in this configuration before more advanced radios became cheap enough for a modeler to afford.

Aces of Iron Products insisted on replacing the U.S. WW2 Fighter Pilot they sent due to some blemishes. This gave me the opportunity to paint one in a khaki color scheme. My figure is 1/7 scale.

Some tips to pass along:

1. Brush olive green paint into the folds of the coat and shadows.

2. Paint a very thin base color. A khaki camo rattle can spray was used making sure the dark colors showed through.

3. I wanted my pilot to have on a shirt and tie rather than an ascot. The tie and shirt collars were cut from a discarded foam elevator. CA was used to glue the pieces in place. The tie was painted khaki and shirt dark brown. The shirt was lightly dry-brushed with a lighter shade of brown to show some weathering. The tie was crammed in place and I left the wrinkles. They were glued at an angle to hide the lumpy ascot beneath.

4. Brush on enamel paints starting with the eyes and face. Generally follow the AoI painting tips. Enamels layer and don’t blend well. I’ve basically smeared the colors together using odorless mineral spirits on a clean brush.

5. Paint light colors to dark colors across the figure. It is okay to use gloss colors, but only if you plan to use a final lacquer coat at the end.

6. Touch up any spots that need to be brought back in line.

7. Washes: Mix one drop of brown paint with 10 drops of odorless mineral spirits. Use the wash on the life vest and white straps. Some can be used on the face, adding steaks below the eyes and in the...Continue Reading

UMx Whipit's (two whips) Old Modified Whip VS 100% Stock Whip ( Short Version ) (1 min 6 sec)

Took the two Whips out , was windy .
Too windy to really compare , but here is the very short version .

Picture 1

FMS V-tail 800mm - Wanted one for a long time ! ( Not a house brick like a certain Super K )
I will do a pictorial on it when the wind backs off ( Northerly Gale Blowing ) , weather says next week end .

Picture 2 and 3

MG 800 from GB , only took about 2 months to get it .. ( 3 months after checking )
It is a very interesting kit - I will do a thing on it !

Bare Bones Kit weight = 119 Grams ( Just the foam bits )
Building to Federally Mandated 250 Gram Limit for unregistered , unlicensed pilots .
Gives us some 130 grams of stuffing .

Picture 4

100cm Hand Throw Glider -
I ordered two , and I took this one out of the box . Did I mention the Northerly Gale ?
Anyhow , I had to replace the steel ballast ball for a larger one to get CG .
And it looks to be a capable glider .
Ok , it is BENT !!!! , a little here , a little there . In fact , the only thing not bent a little was the vertical stab .. That was straight for some reason .
SO it looks like a bit of time with the hair dryer is required .
BUTT !!!! - It does glide , even bent .
How to RC it ? Thats the question .

Here is a link to the Video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GcW85nkS2nk

This item is courtesy of Banggood.
I thought this Tiny Wing would make for an excellent Micro FPV Wing ;-)
It has several flight modes; 6-axis, 3-axis, and manual.
It's made from EPP Foam which should make it extremely durable ;-)
I will perform the Maiden Flight as soon as weather permits ;-)
I will also post another video providing Tips on the setup and links to the components I used.

Get one today from Banggood!

Dear Jim and Members,

Family and life gets real busy at times. I thought when I fully retired at age 67 after 38 years at USPS and 3 years at a local police department I would have more time. However, with a father in law in assisted living, my mother moving from assisted living to skilled nursing it is amazing how fast time gets away from you. Paperwork, computer work, paying their bills, obtaining their personal needs, helping my older children with different tasks...it is a pleasurable work. It is as my trainer about 15 year ago told me "RC will always be there...you can always go back to it.

He was a great trainer having taught me on a 72 mhz nicad Futaba buddy box system / Easy Star and on to a Super Cub LP that I modified with his suggestions. My trainer recently contacted me to see if I would like to purchase some of his old equipment. I got with him...unfortunately he has degenerative optic nerve difficulties. He has no depth perception and trouble with focus. He flew his own real cub for a long time along with learning and doing rc aircraft back when there were no buddy boxes and battery power was only a dream. t really was hard to see him struggle. But with his encouragement as we discussed things going on in life...I am setting aside time early in the mornings and late in the evening to "get back" to the hobby I love. The building / working on both foam and balsa models is so relaxing along with getting an aircraft into the air...I loose...Continue Reading

25$ FPV goggles (1 min 48 sec)

Get it here: https://m.banggood.com/custlink/G3GmZWGCw1

I never expected these cheap Eachine VR006 goggles to be that good! Imo they are perfect for beginners and people who don't want to spent too much money. I like the picture quality and I had no problems with interferences in the park. Great!
