So Iím not sure who made the fuselage but I got it off ebay for a fair price knowing Iím going to have to mod the heck out of it.

So for the mechanics I have a old Align trex mashup I bought used from a LHS that was closing down a couple years back.

So after some daydreaming I came up with an idea on the tail Assemble. So right now Iím in the process of proofing it. My man goal was to use as many stick parts as possible and very few made parts.
So here is my progress so far.
Iím using two complete torque tube setups. One of the frame housings is used to connect the autorotation gear to the tail gear assembly. I used a 3mm Id x 4mm od steak shaft, two 4mm id x 6mm od bearings and one 4mm id universal joint.

On the tail rider parts Iím using three tail gear assembles. One in the boom, then two on the riser. Iím going to make two (left and right side) come toe plates and have a transition gear inbetween the two booms. This will allow me to get what ever angle I need for the riser.

Also the reason for the universal joint is because I want the main head angled forward like the real Apache. So far my make shift parts are proving a functional concept. I will eventually have all the new brace plates cut out of CF plate.

I need to start working on the cascading tail rotor, which will match nicely with my 4 blade floating head. Last thing I need to buy is a new motor with a lower kv.

I will have some flex in the main gear and add a caster tail wheel.

So I started this project 6 years ago. It was my first helicopter purchase, a blade 400 with fly bar.
I bought the fuselage from Darthdrk if memory serves me right. I do remember the original build went to get her quick and very half thought out on my side. At the time I started it I had little helicopter experience and thought I would just take my Blade 400 convert it to FBL and stuff it in the fuselage. And thatís exactly what I did.
First flight went just as your thinking right now, horrible and end as you would expect l, picking up pieces. And putting in a box for a later day. As I learned a very important lesson. Helicopters are more complex than planes.

Forward 5+ years and many more helicopters and experience to me purchasing an ARF A-109 450 from MotionRC. It was ok and had a few flights before I crashed it. Because of parts I was forced to rebuild it into a MD500e. Learned a bit about helicopter mounting into fuselage. After that was done I had a really bad vibration which had caused some flight issues. So doing some research I decided to go with a more scale look with a 5 blade head to utilize a low head speed.
Well I learned more about helicopters than I had ever anticipated. At the end I have a very nice flying MD500E that is rock solid.

So after that finished and feeling more knowledgeable and confident, I pulled the BlueThunder project out. I wonít get into to much of the build, but I got the phasing , the control rods and servos and the blade...Continue Reading

First a little explanation about my Helicopter skill level. I currently have 9 total helicopters. I have 2 Blade MCP-BL, Blade 180, Blade Apache, Blade 300, Blade 400 converted to FBL, Helimax Blackhawk, Align 450pro and now the A-109 Coast Guard Rescue 450.
On all my helicopters I can fly nice smooth figure 8ís, Loops and rolls. I would consider myself an intermediate heli pilot.
Back info to my purchase.
Iíve been watch these since I believe November 2018 when they first announced them. The first part of May, James (MotionRC) posted a 30 minute video on setting up the ZYX-S2 controller for the new 450 helicopter line. After watching the video I decided to pull the trigger. I actually preferred the Huey but they are out of stock. My next was either the A-109 or the Airwolf. I decided on the A-109. Iím now wishing that I would have either waited for the Huey or just gotten the Airwolf. More on that later.
The price is not great but not bad either seeing you get a decent helicopter without a FBL controller but with a nice fiberglass body. I would call it more of a APNP (almost plug and play)
The A-109 showed up well packaged in a box in a box. The only box art was on the shipping box and looked like a simple desktop printed image B/W of the A-109. The helicopter is mostly assembled in the box needing to only put the blades on and the two tail fins. The blades were taped to the side of the inner inside box as well as a small bag holding 4 water slide decals, the two...Continue Reading

This is a work in progress build blog.

what I'm using.
AMT ERTL star wars snowspeeder model kit, stock #38272.
Cicada 250 quad frame.
10mm standoffs.
10 deg motor mounts.
Multistar Elite 2204-2300KV Multi-Rotor Motors.
HobbyKing 12A BlueSeries Brushless Speed Controllers.
5030 clear props.
Naze32 FC.
X4rsb RX.
Red and Green 12v 3mm LEDs.
Full-color LED lighting Board WS2812 for Naze32.

I also plan on adding FPV as well with camera tilt and OSD.

SO what I did was change arm positions on the Cicada. I then built just the top half of the Snowspeeder. The snowspeeder fram attaches in 3 spots. Two of which are the screws on the 10mm standoffs that are about mid canopy. and the third is in the back where the back of the model slides in between the upper and lower Cicada frame.
I added Green LEDs for the laser cannons in the front and Red LEDs for the engines in the back. I will also be adding a racing light bar in the back bottom which will be controlled via the Naze32.

Now the pics.

Added 10/11/15 video

I'm starting this area to add pics of my fleet. I don't know why I didn't start this awhile ago. This will only be pics no build ups details.

Here are pics of the DX9 before being put in the shipping box.
I wish I could add pics to PM's but it won't let me.
