Oh man !
So I have been trying out a few other Operating Systems ( Linux based ) ..
From time to time I download the latest releases and then try them out VIA VirtualBox .
To date only one OS has impressed , and that's MINT . ( LinuxMint )

From time to time , GhostBSD also works ..

Problem with most of the BSD out there is the install .. It's so parking antiquated and some times overly complicated ..
And should you install it ( BSD ) , then booting into the OS fails ..... PITA !
Butt ... Every now and again they get it right .. ANd then not !

GhostBSD is like that ! One revision installed just fine and booted without issue .. Then the next one ( updated ) fails to boot .
And then the next one ( 21.11.24 ) installs and boots fine . So if you have been itching for a Painless BSD ( there's a new flavor ) , then GhostBSD 21.11.24 might be worth a try . ( If you haves BSD itch ) .
The list of Linux flavors that just don't cut it for me is huge ....
The only flavor I would recommend as a primary or 2nd OS is Mint .
Has good software ( 3rd party ) support and runs without issue . A lot of other Linux flavors have limited 3rd party software available and wont run a lot of Linux developed software offered out there .
So picking a linux flavor ( for me ) comes down to ..

Ease of install
Function ( set up )
Software availability ( compatibility )
And being able to navigate the menue's ( get under the hood so to speak )

Fairchild FC-1, FC-2 and 71: I’m going to try to pack a lot of history into one segment, but here goes.

The Fairchild 71 started life as the FC-1 which was Fairchild’s first airplane design. It was designed to operate for Fairchild Aerial Survey as a camera host but proved to be commercially viable enough to become Fairchild’s main business. It initially was powered by a 90hp Curtiss OX-5 V-8 and carried a pilot and up to 2 passengers. It must not have been a particularly incredible performer with the OX-5 because by the end of the design it had 420hp.

The FC-1 was flown successfully on the Ford Air Tour in 1926 but when it returned home it was fitted with a 200hp Wright J4 engine and was modified to carry more passengers. The eventual production version was designated the FC-2 and was Fairchild’s first certified design. The FC-2s were powered by various engines including the Wright J-5, Curtiss Challenger, Armstrong-Siddeley Lynx, 300hp Pratt & Whitney Wasp JR., and the Wright J-6. A total of at least 180 FC-2s were sold including one being sold to NACA (now NASA) as their very first airplane.

The Fairchild 71 was essentially a cleaned up and slightly enlarged version of the FC-2. Kreider-Reisner KR-21: The KR-21 was the third and last of the Kreider-Reisner commercial biplanes and was vastly different from it’s earlier brethren.

The KR-21 was brought about by the increasing popularity of slightly smaller biplanes like the Great Lakes and Fleets. The KR-21 was intended to be slightly smaller and more sporty than the KR-34 and had one less seat.

The KR-21 shared essentially no parts with the KR-34 and was definitely a clean sheet design. It had tapered wings with four ailerons for a high roll rate. It had a significant separation between the wings to allow as little interference between the wings as possible. But most of all, it was built to be as strong as possible. The KR-21 was intended to hold up against hard aerobatics and tough training conditions.

The KR-21 also used a new power plant for Kreider-Reisner, (by this time owned by Fairchild) it was powered with a Kinner 5 cylinder radial. The prototype used a Warner, however all of the production airplanes used some variant of Kinner.

The KR-21 was reported to be a pleasant airplane to fly and was easy to land 9 out of 10 landings. However a pilots report from the era said that on every 10th landing, the airplane would do something completely unpredictable.

Interestingly, it somehow came to be reported that only 5 KR-21s were produced. While this can be seen in a few not-so-well-researched publications, this is completely false. At least 27 were registered on public records. (in...Continue Reading

Well I couldn't stand it any longer ,it's been over 2 weeks since I was last able to get out on the hill to slope.
With a west wind { 30 degrees off straight up the hill } 20 to 25mph gusting over 30 mph while blowing thru the hedge row on the south side I headed out, at least it was sunny most of the time.

I brought out my Leading Edge Gliders "One Design" for this adventure, my hope was that I could launch and gain enough height to get above the hedge row/tree line into cleaner air... hey how bad could it be

As I launched the wind picked up and she would barely penetrate , I spent the first 2 minutes almost hovering sliding back and forth across the face of the hill to keep her moving.
I was able to push out in front of the hill and get out of the chop ,a couple of clicks of down trim for the gusts and I was good to go.

There would be windows of lift with the wind coming straight up the hill where I could fly the face of the hill and do some racing turns ,other times just push out and elevator up into cleaner air .
My flying buddy The Red Tail hawk was no where to be seen today.

It was great to get some fresh air and exercise and know that I can get some air time in "less than favorable "conditions

Hello Guys,

Hereafter, a video about my last project. I've managed to find a beautiful ultra-classic Deep Vee: the famous Key Biscayne from Graupner

Dee-Vee released in 1990, an upgrade of the successfull ARROW hull

The former motor was a fragile Speed 700 Turbo 9.6V but supplied with 12V, replaced by a brushless motor in 4S

With this new combo, the hull is now about 400g lighter than old one with much more power.

That's its maiden run, not push at its limit for sure

I fly for fun. It's not all consuming, it's just an amusement. Toy planes, cars, tanks and boats are what they are. Toys. I can't get seriously indulged in the political side of it. Sometimes I drop it for other amusement. But I always come back.
I built my first plane with balsa and foam packing from a refrigerator when I was 7. It flew like a refrigerator.
Not willing to give up I built more. And they flew.
I self taught myself and read voraciously on theory. A control line PT19 was the very first model I was given on my 8th birthday. I modified it to be a free flight and it worked out well. It ended it's life on a cold Alberta day when it became one with a grain bin.
Life took over. But I did join Air Cadets and had my Pilots license at 16.
Once I had finished university and made a bit of money, I got my first radio and a powered glider. Then, warbirds. Then, big 42cc gassers. Now, all electric.
Sometime in between I got married and have a beautiful daughter. We traveled the world. We set up a farm in the Philippines where my lovely wife was born. It is my second home.
Playing with toys is akin to meditation for me. I plan on doing it for a very long time.

As a kid, I imagined one day I would build an interplanetary recreational vehicle.
While the starship never got finished, I have had a lot of fun along the way.

Enjoy life, avoid the disease of ego. Be happy. It's a choice.

Defined terms:
Population, p, is an increasing function of basic resources, rb (food, shelter, clothing, water). A larger rb will always result in a larger p.
Total resources: rt = rm + rb. Where rm are resources used to manufacture nonessentials, n (electricity, TVs, cars, etc.)
Nonessentials, n, are an increasing function of rm and technology, t.
Technology, t, allows a smaller rb to support a larger p.

There are two ways to reduce n, thereby reining-in wasteful behavior. Through t or through rm.
a. Through technology there is a slight reduction in the efficiency of rb to support the existing p. Since killing people isn’t an option, more resources will have to divert from rm to rb to allow the existing p to survive at a lower t.
b. Through rm, that just directly diverts more resources back to rb, which in turn increases p even further. Since technological growth is already declining (citation), this is the more capable instrument, however, the outcome is the same regardless.

Human proliferation can never be stopped. Thus, any parsimony will only result in a larger population living on more basic resources. This also won’t increase the per capita skill level. The empirical evidence also supports this. Less developed countries have high fertility rates while it is the opposite in developed countries (citation). Even if one were to rein-in the wastefulness of developed countries, that would simply make more basic resources available to less developed countries to increase their population.

It's been a minute since my last update: much-loved Freewing DH-112 Venom bit the dust. I was doing a too aggressive loop, too fast, and pancaked her on the ground...not much left
Also my F-35 spiraled in for unknown reasons, it never flew well for me.

I'm really loving flying my Freewing F-16 using 6S-4500 SMC and very forgiving at the same time. High alpha landings are a thing of beauty. I bought a second ARF and am painting it all white so I can put on a livery of my choice, either Ft. Worth Gunfighter version or Thunderbird livery.

The Freewing Avanti S just keeps flying flies wherever you put it. Landings are always smooth and predictable. Aerobatics are spectacular, well, as good as I can do them anyway.

My Freewing F-15 is getting a motor upgrade to FMS powerhouse and hoping to get that done this holiday season. It needs a bit more oomph! Such a beauty in the air.

My Freewing F-86 keeps on flying beautifully also. It sounds so jet-like in the air and handles like a pussycat. Been using the SMC 6S-4500 lipos to save some weight and up the performance a bit. It has an upgraded 2100 kv FMS motor in it.

The Eflight F-4 is still flying even though there are cracks on the top of both wings that have packing tape on them. It's been flying over a year like that. I have to concentrate on landing very softly every time so that I don't push thru the wings. I do have a spare set of wings WHEN it eventually happens.

Un beau CADEAU de Noël ! J'ai en test aujourd'hui le nouveau bateau de chez Eachine, le EBT05 ! Nous n'avions pas été déçus par le précédent, le EBT04, plus petit et un peu moins puissant, et bien ce nouveau cru reste dans la même lignée. Une excellent stabilité, un pilotage simple, une puissance réglable, une autonomie correcte et des alarmes très utiles, le contrat est donc rempli selon moi. En bref, pas de déception pour cet engin aux alentours des 110€, tant au niveau du look que de ses performances. Une petite machine plutôt bien équipée pour ce tarif car la marque n'en est pas à son premier coup d'essai et ne cesse d'améliorer ses produits. Kreider-Reisner KR-34: The KR-34 was the natural progression of the KR-31 and featured numerous updates to the design.

The KR-34 which came in short order after the KR-31 exchanged the OX-5 for various radial engines. The landing gear shifted from a single straight axle type gear to a split axle design with rubber bushing suspension. The wings were altered slightly and instead of having ailerons on all four wings, it had longer ailerons on the lower wing only.

The first power plant of the KR-34 was the 115hp and eventually 130hp “Comet” radial. However it later used the more common Wright J-6-5 and Curtiss Challenger radials. Each of the radials proved to have good performance for the fairly lightweight biplane. It also was purported to have docile but desirable flying characteristics.

The KR-34 didn’t have as high of a production run as the KR-31 however it did garner some military use. The KR-34CA exchanged the front seat for two forward firing Browning 30 caliber machine guns and the two which were sold to China also had bomb racks on the belly.

When the Kreider-Reisner company was sold to Fairchild it was renamed the Fairchild KR-31 but continued production. In total 69 were built and today a very small handful are still around with at least one being actively flown....Continue Reading

While the battery box is attached , the capacitor is charged but the motor does not run ..
As soon as you pull / remove the battery box , the motor runs ..

I want to try a geared prop on the Lipo system and the capacitor system ...

And then maybe design a simple FF glider / plane ... Maybe from Depron ?
