Merry Christmas & Happy New Year to all!
Well I suppose in spite of all the carnage it's been a pretty good year - After the 'Got Rocks' maiden Lane presented me with a Sig Commander that he built! It sports an early O.S. FS.61 enclosed in a custom fiberglass cowl (now you know who I learned to make a cowl from). After the first few flights he felt it landed a bit hot for his fields (relatively) short runway so he added flaps to help slow it down a bit. I'm hesitant to take it up without him there as I'd hate for something to happen to it but I'm really looking forward to flying it!

As I mentioned in the last post I got ahold of a quarter scale Super Cub (Old Hangar 9 100" model) and have been slowly collecting the 'bits' needed to get her in the air. She came with a YS 1.20 4-stroke and if she flies anything like Lane's quarter scale Hangar 9 Cub I'm sure she'll fly great! I'm just debating on flying her as is or if I want to strip her down and do a custom scheme (Alaska State Troopers maybe)?

I also purchased a D&L Designs 1/6 scale de Havilland DH.82 Tiger Moth 'short kit' and hopefully I'll be getting started on that soon. All of the above will hopefully be steps in preparing me to build and fly my dream ship - a quarter scale de Havilland DH.60M Metal Moth. I have the Bill Northrop plans and I'm considering getting the Laser Design Services laser cut short kit for it also. I've started working on some of the subassemblies and I'm working on how I want to construct a fiberglass cowl for it.

Well I guess I already have my work cut out for me in 2013 - I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas and a Happy (and safe) New Year! ~ Robin

Well It's Dec 2nd and its taken me this long to post the sickening news that I replanted the 'Got Rocks' Cub the day after her remaiden! There I was... in a climbing left hand turn in front of Mount Konocti and the wings just disappeared! Next thing I knew I saw the vertical fin pointing down! I thought " Oh ", nailed the throttle, and pushed over in an attempt to climb but she stalled and came down through an oak tree! The nose exploded just aft of where the doublers ended, and I had some minor damage to the wing. The aft fuselage and tail held up just fine though, I suppose she's rebuildable but it's going to take me a while to get up to doing it!
In retrospect using the late 'black wing' scheme was probably not one of my brightest ideas and yes, I had a camera on the wing tip riding along! (I'm amassing quite a bit of 'blooper' material! The crash was 100% pilot error and in no way should reflect the soundness of this model!
I picked up one of the old Hangar 9 quarter scale (100") Super Cubs and I'm currently getting it ready to maiden but there will be another Fun Cub in my future and I've already got some ideas slo cookin' ! ~ Robin
