Hi folks, I am new to the RC world and I don't know anything about controlling aircraft, cars, or boats. I'm interested because I belong to a group of railroad modelers, but not the usual kind that you can pick up in your hands. We build and operate 1:8 trains. That is they are about 1/8th the size of prototype equipment. Ours are big enough to actually ride on, but slightly smaller than the park railroad size. The distance between our rails is 7.5". Standard gauge in the US is 4 feet, 8.5 inches.

To give you a better idea of our engines, I operate a relatively small engine that weighs about 200 pounds with batteries installed. It is about 2 feet long and about 15 inches wide. I don't actually sit atop my engine, but ride in a chair on a flat car pulled behind the engine. Our trains can be as few as 2-3 cars and I've seen some trains that contain 15 or more passenger cars that can each carry several passengers. These guys have very large (compared to my little switcher) gasoline or steam engines.

My interest in the RC Group is to learn more about hand held controllers. Many of us control our engines (speed, direction, sounds, lights, &tc.) with hand helds. Some of us are looking at the Dumbo x6 transmit and receiver. So, I'm looking for some help just past the part where I've figured out how to install the receiver on my engine and have basically set up the transmitter.

Do you think I'm in the right place?
