Here is the 2nd flight of the FT Mini Scout. No crash this time. Still got some more tweaking to do, but pretty decent overall for a 2nd flight.

During our winter holiday I visited Finnish Air Force Museum in Tikkakoski (central Finland) with my son after several years. This place is worth the visit as the planes are well displayed and there's some unique planes, too.

Some highlights:
- Brewster Buffalo (BW-372)
- Bristol Blenheim IV
- Messerschmitt Bf 109G
- Mig-21 (ouside, cockpit inside)
- Saab Draken

See all photos!

I hate doing ESCs. Because of my unexceptional soldering skills, I tend to melt them into a pile of slag. I'm going to try real hard not to do that today. I could use the general-purpose node and program it for ESC. It would have the advantage of being able to use one general-purpose node for all four of my ESCs. The ESC firmware supports up to 6 PWM or 4 Dshot outputs. Just a reminder that you can make all these UC4H devices with simple "Blue pill" STM boards that are really cheap. They may not be as neat and clean but it makes UC4H super accessible.

>>>> But I want to use the OlliW super-special Kiss ESC carriers. Super cool!

I attended AMA Expo East this year. The PA Extra 260 is complete and waiting for a nice spring day to maiden. I have a 1/2 finished E-Flite Slick 3D on the bench. Despite not having flown anything sporty and balsa yet, I picked up the Extreme Flight 48" Edge. Plus I always have to get something from RA Cores when I see Jim. His planes are a lot of fun to build and fly.

Also looking for the Warbird Red Heli Canopy. Neat lil Heli for being my First one. Also have a Esky 150 V2. Still contemplating if I like that one for being Flybarless. Learning lots as I go on this fun Adventure.

That was a $200 cash prize, $500 for her school library (books she gets to pick out) and an ALL expenses trip to D.C. to compete at nationals for $20,000 to the 1st place contestants and $10,000 for her school library.

Crazy proud father. She is also skilled in the proper uses of .22, 9mm, 45, Remington 870, throwing knives, tomahawk, bow and arrow, crossbow, hand knife fighting, wrestling and can make Greek chicken like a pro.

Love my baby girl.

Review - Brushed 1020 Motor & 3 inch Prop - A good candidate for a Micro Plane?

Here is a link to the Video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kH3TfhDIULE

I have in the works a Backyard/Indoor Micro Plane.
My hope is to use a Brushed Motor to keep things simple.
I estimate my AUW will be around 50 grams so I'm hoping to find a Brushed Motor & Prop combination that can provide 60 grams of thrust.
I ordered a 4 pack of these Brushed 1020 Motors & Props designed for a Quadcopter to test and see if they are viable for my project.
They were certainly inexpensive and seem to be of good quality and the Motors have power connectors already installed.

Here are links to the Motors & Props, Micro Receiver, and Lipo I used for testing:

Ok, I got the basic platform up and running. The UC4H Power module is powering the Pixhawk 2.1 Cube and the CANbus. I can connect to the Cube with Mission Planner and I have installed Betacopter 3.6.6 from OlliW Github respository. OlliW has provided pre-compiled versions for three standard flight controller FMUs. Use ArduCopter-v2.px4 for standard Pixhawk 1s and Cubes. Use ArduCopter-v3.px4 for Solo boards and ArduCopter-v4.px4 for newer boards like the Pixracer. You do this by going to the install firmware tab in Mission Planner and Load custom firmware. Loads just like any normal pre-compiled version of Arducopter.

Now we can have some fun. The SLCAN device is a basic tool for monitoring the CANbus. If you are a network type it is like an ethernet network sniffer. Think Wireshark or Bloodhound. It listens in on the bus and can capture the messages going by. You can make one or buy one from Jdrones or Zubax. The UAVCAN GUI tool gets this info and displays it for you. So get UAVCAN GUI from the UAVCAN.org site and install it.

Plug your SLCAN adapter into your computer via USB and a CANbus cable is plugged into one of the two CANbus ports and then to your CANBus. In the following picture you can see my SLCAN plugged into my computer and then to my CANbus expander.

On the CAN Interface Configuration screen choose the usb port your SLCAN is connected to. (You can unplug the SLCAN and run the UAVCAN GUI again and see what port disappears if you are unsure.) The...Continue Reading

Hello everyone I am starting a Flite test projet. The FT tiny trainer build, able to be a chuck glider, 2 channel, 3 channel, and even 4 channel. I am making it a chuck glider and later when I get some electronics I will make it 4 channel aileron, elevator, rudder, throttle and possibly flapperons. I hope that you guys and girls will stay tuned for the build. I already have the plans printed out. And now I just need to get some foam board.
