This is off the plane subject but it is my page; so I'm trowing a PLUG in here for our NEW web site, it's up and running so please spread the word.

We are not set up for International shipping yet but it can still be done by sending email on our site and you will have to cover the shipping fully.

Thank you,

Awhile back I made a Heat & Vac-U-Forming setup I took a break this past summer to build a canoe so I never really put it to the test.

Today I did some pulls, and I'm still learning about making parts, these Bubble turrets are for my 8' WS PBY from Vintage Plans.

I'm using these as a test bed for my Giant Scale BV-138 which has much bigger parts.

Here's some photos for those who may be thinking of building a Vac-U-Former and or for those who just like to look.

I'll throw a few photos of the Scratch built Cedar strip Canoe as well.

So I made another plug this one very simple just to get a rough shape for the bottom
my plan is to make the seats and dash from scratch using bits and pieces of plastic I have on hand and some sheet styrene .

The other thing I've been working on is the plug for the bubble turrets there's a small hole I'm going to have to fix before pulling those.

Check it out it may help you to understand where I'm going w/ this,

Okay I did a bit more on my removable cockpit; there's a great deal yet to do but thought I would show you guys where I'm going w/ this idea.

The whole thing will be like a capsule and will slide in the opening and be held w/ magnets and a tight fit.

I've made the hatch between the to pilots chairs; the chairs are next then the dash along w/ other details as I go, now I have a base shape that fits in the plane.

Then I whipped out some seat pans this morning....Continue Reading

HAPPY 4th of JULY everyone!
A big thanks to those who have served this country!!

After a few tries w/ different sizes and heat it worked.

But I think on the PBY plug I'll use a very light coat of NOVIS plastic polish to help the release.

I now can pull FOUR different sizes the smallest be a sheet 11.5 x 12 that one was to small for this plug being so tall and I'm using 0.030 plastic.

I used all of the suggestions I received from everyone the best one being to turn the plug against the rec. shape SO THE CORNERS DO NOT LINE UP.

Thanks Willsonman,

If or when you ever go to try to pull something have a LOT of extra plastic so you can play around w/ the temp and height of the sheet from the heat source to get it to sag w/ out touching the burner.

That's it for this test subject the next will be the PBY's plug I may be able to get to it on Sunday and that would be better to let the plug's epoxy paint harden even more.

Hello all... This is how and why I made my Heat Forming / Vac Box.

I was going to need to make several parts for my on going PBY build and some rather large parts for BV-138 build; and had seen some different ones built on these forums, So I've combined the different ideas into my own.

CO$$T....Around $125 to build depending on where you get you supplies and what
country your in.

There are easier & cheaper ways but I wanted something that would last and be versatile to make a few sizes w/ the same setup.

They say a picture is worth a 1,000 words so I'll post photos and let you guys ask questions. TO SEE ALL PHOTOS CLICK ON VIEW ALL IMAGES OR CONTINUE READING.

There were a few test pulls made and some adjustments had to be made to the frame for smaller pieces; more yet to come as I work out the bugs.

Alright I'm back I had wanted to post this yesterday but didn't want to rush and pull off the fresh paint AGAIN!! As some of you know this plane has been made in loving memory of Susan Jolene Jones....06-05-60 to 03-08-04 My late wife.

I still have more to do but I wanted to do this now (if you take not of the date) and if the weather breaks I want to take this plane outside for some nice sunny shots But this is the last of the paint details and this is what I had envisioned since the beginning! so check it out.

Well I'm still not finished I had another set back I up and pulled one of the stencils up to soon or to fast this was the last one also the name that I have chosen for this plane. I was lucky and was able to get all of the remaining paint off and have ordered another stencil, so in the mean time I'll be doing final touch ups and hook ups but here is what she's looking like thus far ...Continue Reading

well I'm sorry to say there has been a set back w/ the graphics I have been told that they couldn't copy some of the things I have in mind for the final look of this bird.
but I will get some vinyl and hand cut the final touches so it may take a bit longer but I am going to make this the way I had planed
so bear w/ me if you please

OK I went to the fastener supply co. ROBNET these guys are great you don't have to buy large amounts and the service is fantastic they had one of the bolts and are ordering the others I will have them Friday if they don't have it they will try to get it for you call toll free 1-800-771-bolt or Email: [email protected] so at least I found a good source for hard to find nuts bolts and screws at a fair price. so I temp put on the prop hub and it really makes it look nice

OK well this morning I looked at the new prop hub that I received from tower and just like every thing on this plane it to has to be customized so I will show how I did that but the biggest problem is finding the replacement screws that I need went to three hardware stores and no luck and one always has what I need when no one else does so then I thought of mcmaster carr but I only need one of one size and four of the other not 25-50 ct any ideas w/ this guys the sizes I need are metric cap head 5mm 0.8 x 50mm long and counter sunk hex drive 3mm 0.7 x 40mm I don't mind buying a couple of extras. so my quest continues there is another specialty hardware store around here but it is a trek. so any take a look at how to adapt a hub w/ out having a drill press it can be done if you take your time....Continue Reading

today I glued in the aft hinges and connected all of the hook ups and touch ups. I used 45 min epoxy w/ milled fiber glass I brush on p-jelly at pivot point liberally then I used a bamboo skewer to get the glue deep in to each hole, then dipping the ends of the hinges in the glue and let the excess drip off then place each in it's proper hole wiping off the excess glue w/ alcohol and a paper towel. this is just the way I do hinges there are many others check out the pics and maybe they will help more. I all most have this BABY finished just kidding alot of small stuff to go yet. ...Continue Reading
