This is the Performance Flight of my new Eflite FJ-2 Fury BNF Basic.

Eflite FJ-2 Fury 15 DF BNF Basic - Performance Flight (4 min 28 sec)

As some of you may have witnessed the wonderful AstroTurf “airfield” that me and some of my other pilot buddies fly on, it is with some RC aircraft limitations – especially when it comes to DF (ducted fan) style aircraft. The small rubber turf chips of the Astroturf are most likely to get sucked into the intake on any DF aircraft designed with a cheater intake duct or a DF aircraft with a nose wheel “rooster-tailing” the rubber chips right in front of the intake duct on take-offs, damaging the EDF fan blades over time, or worse.. causing a DF lockup / shutdown 6 feet above the ground on take-off and right into the chain link fence perimeter of the airfield – ask me how I know (RIP Freewing F-16 4S Standard). Unfortunately most DF aircraft are designed with the intake just asking for Astroturf rubber chips to be sucked right in like a hungry Dyson vacuum cleaner. It really sucks (pun intended). Now here I am, left with (4) Roaring Top 4S 3700mAh 70C Lipos, and no RC aircraft to use them in.

After some research, I found the now discontinued Eflite FJ-2 Fury. With the intake design ahead of the front landing gear and no cheater intake duct, it was the ideal DF aircraft design for no rubber chips to get sucked in and cause damage to the DF fan blades / internals. The recommended lipo battery for this plane is also a 4S...Continue Reading

"Blaze, you are cleared for take-off." - Great flying day with my Eflite 1.4 meter Commander!

Eflite Commander mPd 1.4m on 4S - Take-Off to Power Climb Loop (0 min 28 sec)

This is the 4S Maiden Flight of my new Eflite Commander mPd 1.4m BNF Basic.

Eflite Commander mPd 1.4m BNF Basic 4S Maiden Flight (5 min 35 sec)

After performing the initial Maiden Flight of my Eflite Commander mPd on the stock 3S setup, I found the performance to be lacking and sedate.. it probably doesn’t help that most of my RC flights are in Highlands Ranch, CO where the altitude is 5920 feet above sea level, and performance is affected by altitude. A big thank you and credit goes to Discover RC who posted a video on the Eflite Commander, modified for 4S. After watching his video, I followed suit with the same type of modifications to my Commander, using an APC 11x7E Prop and a Sky Power 60-Amp ESC with Switchmode BEC. The flight performance on 4S is outstanding and what I would consider as “appropriate” for an RC aircraft of this size, compared to the other RC aircraft that I fly. As Discover RC stated in his video, “okay now that’s hot sauce!”

Thank you to my friend Mike “Deuces Wild” Frontiero for capturing the 4S Maiden Flight on his iPhone 7, and a Happy 4th of July to everyone!

A short but sweet flight demo of my Eflite 1.1 meter Night Visionaire before the Park Ranger locked up the park. This night flyer was a hit at the airfield and I had almost all of the guys that work at the local hobby shop with their cellphones out, recording the "light show."
