The model is a ground vehicle, has wings so can fly (of course) and being built from a boat hull will float too!.

Caractacus Potts' head and the steering wheel rotates with Rudder while the car leavers also resopnd to Tx input.

The wings extend with Gear.

Engine sounds are included based on the "chitty chitty" sound and a genuine Silver Phontom Rolls Royce engine purring.

Derived from a beautiful SketchUp model by NotAvailable N. This model was badly broken and needed a lot of repair work in Blender. I did have a lot of fun Texturing the model though and she turned out beautifully!

This is one of a series of four Tintin models that were inspired by the comic book by Hergé; The Adventures of Tintin EXPLORERS ON THE MOON that was first published as a weekly serial in 1952. I had Part One as a young kid but didn't get to read Part Two where they finally get to the moon until I was in my 40's!

The story was produced following Hergé's extensive research into the possibility of human space travel, he wanted the work to be as realistic as possible. The Moon Rocket was clearly influenced by the Nazi V-2 but the practical space suits were light years ahead of the Republic Aviation and Hazard suits of a decade later.

Tintin is built as a Helicopter. His head responds to Rudder and his limbs to Elevator input. His chest light is on Return Home. When you retract Gear, his plucky little dog Snowy jumps out of his arms to sit at his Master's feet.

You will find Tintintin Here

Video

The video is an experiment as to how far I could push Phoenix to make animations.

All animations were done using separate purpose made Builder models for each individual clip involving multiple Blender objects. Further details are in the attached PDF.

Pushing Phoenix to the limits!

Merci Hergé!

Perhaps known to many from the from 1960's is the Lunar Excursion Suit designed by Allyn “Hap” Hazard.

Hazard Moon Suit for Phoenix Flight Simulator (1 min 49 sec)

Hazard envisioned a rocket pack that could be strapped onto the suit to make it fly. That just had to be done in Phoenix so here it is!

Hazard who at the time was working for JPL but then founded his own company to develop the suit also envisioned the suit (which was really a mini space ship) could be attached to what we would now call a Rover which would not only supply transport but also oxygen via an umbilical and other supplies such as food for longer range excursions lasting up to 10 days. The lunar astronauts would live in the suit during that time so could retract their arms inside to operate controls and scratch their butts.

The suit became a very popular meme during the 1960s; Life Magazine did a feature on it, it appeared in many TV talk shows and even made a splash in the young girls magazine Dianna. Several toys were made including Mattel’s Major Matt Mason's Moon Suit which I am sure many of us owned, they go for silly prices on eBay now.

The Phoenix model's head rotates with rudder and his limbs respond to elevator and ailerons as with the other of my models. Rockets appear to support him in flight and thrust is supplied at the rear, both due to a diet of beans and appropriate venting of the suit.

If you like, you can fly him on the Phoenix Flying site I made; The Moon.

You can download the model here.

Based on a very nice SketchUp model by Max Grueter who also made the fun Bell Jet Pack I made for Phoenix.

From 1960s Republic Aviation's concept of a moon suit.

Republic Aviation Moon Suit For Phoenix Flight Simulator (0 min 37 sec)

I remember seeing photos of this as a child and modelled it in Blender too.

How clunky it seems, those arm apertures at the front limited movement considerably and it would have been impossible to deploy the tripod legs, even with a buddy system to help. But it was just an early concept after all.

Very little information about it is out there, just a few poor quality photos. According to Encyclopedia Astonautica it was demonstrated by Robert Morris who was working as a consultant and technician for Republic Aviation on Long Island in the 1960's.

The Phoenix model's head rotates with rudder and his limbs respond to elevator and ailerons as with many other of my models. Retract his struts with Gear.

If you like, you can fly him on the Phoenix Flying site I made; The Moon.

You can download the model here.

Here is Iron Man for Phoenix Flight Sim, a true Super hero! After all, he did save the whole Universe from Thanos and selflessly gave his life to do so.

Iron Man for Phoenix Flight Simulator (0 min 51 sec)

RickP once told me, "Naga, you have to learn to walk before you run" when I first started with Blender and attempted my first model the Focker Spinne. As Tony Stark stated, "Sometimes you gotta run before you walk!"

Here is Dr Zarkov's Rocket Ship as flown by Flash Gordon!

Flash Gordon Rocket Ship For Phoenix Flight Sim (1 min 4 sec)

The Phoenix model features a first; fully reflective silver texture that actually reflects the current flying site!

The Rocket features an interior cabin textured with a screen grab of the control cabin from the original 1930’s series. The cabin is further detailed with a 3D modelled oxygen bottle, electro capacitor, view screen and chair.

In addition, when you flip the gear switch the door opens and Buster Crabbe in his role as Flash Gordon exits the cabin and descends the stairs, ray gun in hand ready to battle the evil Ming and his minions! Flash! Saviour of the Universe!

Built as a fixed wing for Phoenix, she comes with the mighty Saturn V rocket motor for her engine sounds (included). And, she floats.

You can download her Here.

And yes, Flash Gordon's alive!

The Phoenix model is based on a interesting aluminium model (18 inches in length with an 8 1/4 inch wing span) cast in two parts with a hinged door and stair that was for sale on eBay several times at very high prices.

The model apparently came from the renowned collection of Frank Andrina who bought it from a “movie studio” in the 1960’s. It is stamped “Universal Moving Pictures” and “Property of Fox Films Corp 249” and was supposedly used as a movie prop in the 1930’s series of Flash Gordon starring Buster Crabbe.

However, this has been disputed as the...Continue Reading

Cartoon Fokker Eindecker E.III

Cartoon Phatt Fokker EIII Model for Phoenix Flight Simulator (2 min 4 sec)

Way back in April 2017, Rick made me a fantastic Fokker Eindecker E.III along with a Fokker D.VII.

You can download them here: E.III D.VII

Of course then I wanted to make my own and that was the start of a long and rewarding adventure.

A few days ago Rick very cleverly send me a cartoon version of the E.III he had started, knowing full well I would be unable to resist finishing it. And here it is.
