The 1/2 Regal is based on the scaled down plans for the full size 40 inch wingspan Regal designed by myself and Kaos2 (my father). The original Regal flies extremely well, but is too large for the space that is most convenient for me to fly. With a 20 inch wingspan, the 1/2 Regal will hopefully bring all the performance of the original Regal to my backyard.

At this point I have printed the plans and prepared the parts. Dollar Tree foam is being used, which provides a nice 20 inch width that matches the wingspan. Cutting out all the parts took little more than half a sheet. With the parts cut out, I went ahead and "painted" the canopy, blue and red stripes on the wing and elevator (blue on top and red on the bottom), a blue stripe on the rudder, and "Regal" written on the wing and both fuselage halves. This was done with sharpies, a ruler, and a stencil. It should give a clean look that allows me to differentiate between top and bottom while flying.

I have also prepared the control surfaces by cutting a 45 degree angle on the leading edges. For best results I use a straight edge and angle an x-acto to create the 45 degree angle. With this method I take the foam from the bottom of each control surface (for aesthetic value), and then will use clear packing tape to create the hinge. More pictures of the hinging process will be posted later.

If it flys well I plan on posting the plans in the scratchbuilt foamies section. Unfortunately the electronics and foam safe ca are still en route, so until everything arrives there is little more I can do.

Update: I have replied to the original post with current progress. Check 'Comments' for more information on the build.
