Test Flight #2 - Ranger G2 with 8X4 Prop - Loops & Rolls ;-)

Here is a link to the Video:

After performing the Motor Thrust Angle MOD on the Ranger G2 it gave me space for an 8x4 Prop.
I removed the stock 7x5 Prop to conduct some Test Flights with and 8x4 Prop.
This should produce significantly more thrust than the stock 7x5 Prop.
I have increase the Elevator Dual-Rate since the 1st Test Flight as it didn't seem to have quite enough elevator authority.
Let's see if that helps.
I also wanted to see how the Roll Rate is on this large plane ;-)
So let's go do some Rolls and Loops ;-)

Here is a link to the Motor Thrust Angle MOD Tutorial:

Another failed launch attempt of the FT Long EZ with a little more severe damage this time. So back to the repair (or maybe rebuild) bench with this one. I've got some new tricks and suggestions that I may try for next time OR, I may rig up/buy some sort of launcher.

FT Long EZ... another bad launch/crash! (0 min 50 sec)

A couple of weeks ago, I made the mistake of bumping the antenna of my old trusted Taranis into the kitchen table. A horrific message "Tx antenna problem" appeared on the screen, making me expect the worst. After restarting the radio, the message disappeared but it sure did hurt my great confidence in this radio, even after successful rage testing and everything.

I really don't want to lose any of my models over this glitch/problem, and so I decided to replace it and only fly a couple of cheapo models with the old radio.
When comparing features and prices, I quickly ended up with the Horus X10(S). I didn't want another Taranis, because I was always very disappointed in the hardware quality of the push-button switches near the display, and the screen itself. I really wanted to stick to OpenTX, because in my opinion, it can't be beaten on price/performance, and the almost limitless possibilities it offers.
I never craved a color screen, and most certainly not a touchscreen, but from what I read bout the Horus display, it was quite clear to me that this would really fit my bill: large enough, clearer text, sunlight-readable, crisp.
The use of widgets is also a big added value: plenty of screen area available to display data, fully customizable screens,....

I was very lucky to find a second-hand X10S with long sticks with integrated 3-position switches and pushbuttons, exactly what I needed. Since I'm a tray-flyer, I needed to mod the radio:
  • designed my own

i have been flying gliders before i learned radio control. free flight. and designing them too. now am still into gliders (R/C), and designing some too.
when i learned about the radian, i got 1. after extensive flying it, i consider it great for catching thermals when there is not much wind. period.
not only that, is the fastest to get ready. stable, forgiving, reasonably priced, what could any1 else want? now they replaced it with the 1 with lights.
still, is a great plane for all around thermal flying.
every time i go to the field i carry 1, together with my own designs, and launch it first, just to warm up.
and i think that it is sad that the designers that work for large business are not known, but still, i wish this reaches him (them).
if so, thanks for a great design...
i also own the small version (umx) , and it performs great too.
tried the 2.6, but it is a horse of different color. not my kind of plane.

So I did a repaint of my E-Flite Timber to Little Annie Fanny of the 199th RAC- Swamp Fox that flew in Vietnam. I also did a battery hatch mod moving the location of the battery from the underside of the fuse to the topside, no more flipping the girl upside down to change out batteries.

Now she will coordinate airstrikes against ground targets for fast movers and assist in the search and rescue of downed aircraft and crew at the flying field!

This will be an evolving thread as I build and review a PR Racing SB401-T (1/10 Mini Truggy). Look for regular updates to this post as I plan to race this buggy in the 4WD Mod Truck class at Thornhill Racing Circuit (Turf Track). Full disclosure, I recently picked up a sponsorship through PR Racing so be prepared to expect some bias, but I will do my best to identify potential areas to consider making upgrades to improve the quality of this kit where applicable.

A quick background on me: I started club racing around 2010 and have slowly improved my skills to where I'm one of the slowest of the fast guys at the club in my area, ha! I typically average between 96% -98% consistency and will occasionally pick up a win for club racing and often make the A Main for regional events. My first 1/10 Truggy was the HoBao Hyper10TT which I raced about 5 years ago until the class died. Then the class came back about about a year ago when TEKNO released the ET410 which I have been racing since 2018. I look forward to comparing the PR truck with it's predecessors!

  • Loaded with upgrades in the kit for exceptional value!
  • Global Team Driver Support

Recently got this plane, easy build however one of the supports would not clamp onto the wing may have to glue it. Not sure about that yet. Taking off was a problem you need to apply a little amount of down elevator, yes down to keep the tail from fish tailing all over the place. Once you see the back come up off the ground neutralize the elevator, apply more power and up she goes. Great flying plane

I haven't flown in over a year. Nearly a year and a half. Why? Because I'm in the National Guard, and I've been tied up on the weekends. Also, our club field has been under construction for over a year (county project), and coupled with the fact that on the weekends I don't have drill, my wife has either had me traveling with her or doing honey-do's, or the weather hasn't been conducive to flying. So, here I am: severely out of practice and longing to get back into the air.

I did get a DJI Mavic 2 Pro yesterday, and despite the high winds (gusting to 20 mph), I was able to get it up into the air and get some nice video footage. I can see now why these drones are both so popular and possibly dangerous; they are ridiculously easy to fly and require very little skill. They do get some amazing footage, though, and I have to admit that I'm really looking forward to some trips now with this drone.

I'm probably one of the very few who has my FAA, AMA, and contact into actually on my drone, but I figure the last thing I need is to have something bad happen and I run afoul of the law or the AMA. Anyway, I hope to be able to get back into the air soon with my beloved warbirds. I miss flying them dearly.

I'm sure that this situation happens to a lot of people, that is the Lipo battery is dead after it used a few times. And users' first reaction must be that the Lipo battery isn't good enough. As long as you buy a reliable brand, as long as you use the Lipo battery in the right way, the Lipo battery will last a long time.

Let's start with what might kill the Lipo battery:

The 1st reason: It is not correct for Lipo batteries to store at full power or no power for long periods of time. If you don't use your Lipo battery for a long period of time, such as 1 month, 6 months, or even longer. Then proper handling way will ensure that your Lipo battery will be good in storage.

For Storage, take note of the following:

(1) In general, we recommend that the customers store the Lipo battery at half power. And the temperature of the storage environment is about 25 °C.

(2) Before storage, charge the Lipo battery for the last time. Check the voltage of each Lipo battery cell. Make sure that the Lipo battery cell voltage is almost the same (error + /-0.01V). Then discharge, release about 50-60% of the power, and then save.

(3) If the Lipo battery is not used for more than 1 month. Then check the voltage of each Lipo battery cell regularly every month. To ensure that the lowest battery voltage is not less than 3.0V, if less than 3.0V, then try to charge and discharge again.

The 2nd reason: Many users always overcharge or over-discharge their Lipo batteries while using
