I have been very lucky to find and buy one of these fantastic engines. Brand new with muffler and 6 glow plugs. Can't wait till it arrives. I might put it in a Midwest Mustang that I have had for years. Never built. Will post pics.

Das Ugly Glider - Part 6

Got the motor and folding prop fitted and balanced, installed the battery and ESC, checked the weight so far (31 oz), and then put her on the CG balance.....right smack dab where she's supposed to (20% of MAC). I figure that the covering will add another 2 ounces (9.5 sq ft) so the estimated AUW will be 33 oz. Projected wing loading will be 33 oz/ 3.41 sq ft = 9.67 oz/sq ft.....Couldn't be more pleased

These are my findings so far in controlling a WS2812 ledstrip via RC control (PWM signal) - This post will be update when I make progress. My project doesn't work correct yet. Still some debugging to do. The code will be posted once it works.

LEDs used are WS2812. In my case two strips of Matek. (see attachment)

First result tinkering with Arduino. Bug fixes needed: Leds need to start on LOW / Off, and they light up, but never turn off when decreasing PWM
Arduino WS2812 control with PWM - Not quite there yet (0 min 20 sec)

Just waiting on covering material now

Hi all, here are two that I just finished. They are upscales of R/C rocket glider kits I have produced in 2.6" diameter, but these are one off's just for me using BT-101 tubing and 3-d lightweight printed cones from Scott Binder, most markings from stickershock with some hand cut accents and fine line sharpie detailing. Both have very similar specs, 33-37" wingspan, 56-60" lengths, weights dry 24.5 ounces as shown, with 29mm H-13 longburn motor, add 7.25oz for rtf weight.
Uses 9mm depron sheet for flight surfaces with 1/8" carbon spar reinforcement. Pretty happy with how they turned out. They both use tail surfaces only for roll and pitch like the smaller versions.

First is an Orbital Sciences Pegasus XL Second is an upscale of the Estes Space Transporter America with wing upsized for glide(which looks more proportional to me than the original).

Waiting for some more springlike weather and my latest rocket motor order to arrive for maidens.

DJI Ocusync The Story So Far

MODEL: Sunriser
DESIGNER: Jamara (germany)
DATE: 1995-ish
WING SPAN (in): 97.5
WING AREA (in^2): 608
AIRFOIL: Eppler 205
LENGTH (in): 48.5
AUW (oz): 48.5
W/L(oz/sq-ft): 11.5
POWER: turnigy 2830 motor with (I think) 10x6 prop
NOTES: Very nifty twin boom design (nifty but fragile). This was from an ARF kit w/ some mods to wing joiner areas for additional shear web/strength. Per the notes on the manual: The well-known record pilot Dr. Hackstein, set two world records with a flight time of approx. 10 hours and a distance of 240 km. Modified fuse for brushless motor. Larger than necessary 3S, 11.1V, 2200 mah lipo and 4.8v, sub-c 3600 mah receiver battery - I think because it was designed for large NiCd battery needed the additional weight in the nose to get proper CG. Original RCM, review published AUW was ~50oz so not too far off of that.

FMS800 Vtail (5 min 45 sec)

I haven't flown this in a long time ..
The conditions were really sweet , the 800 just needed a little trim ..
Anyone that likes a really gentle flying model ..

This one has a Hobby King folding prop and almost the entire flight was @ 50% throttle .

Like anything else, learning whats involved in a new hobby is the first step to taking it on. From figuring out what tools youll need, finding a place to store essentials and creating an organized place to work and play, its always important to do some preparation. That is especially true for aviation modeling.

Aviation modeling is a lot more than kits and parts. Before you even open your first kit, you need a dedicated space where the magic happens. Having a prepped location ready for your first build will make the whole process much easier (and a lot more fun) so thats why were sharing these tips.

Lets get started!

Dedicated Location

First off, youll enjoy your build more if you have a dedicated space. You need the freedom to spread out and stay organized. It will make a big difference when you dont have to clean up in the middle of your project (or worry about the family pup getting into your small-parts pile).

If you have a spare room you have the perfect space and an old table is all you really need. You can also use plywood and sawhorses if they are sturdy. Once you find the perfect spot with a solid and flat work surface, youre ready to start adding tools.

Building Boards

Few modelers build directly on their work table. They often use building boards with a cork top surface. These soft-top building boards allow modeling pins to be pushed into their surface so you can hold all the parts of a build kit safely in place.
