Hubsan H501S X4 5.8G FPV Brushless With 1080P HD Camera GPS RC Drone Quadcopter

I never really liked Hubsan products very much. A vendor that was a friend of mine had major quality issues with Hubsan products, and they would not stand behind their products. Early in my quad flying days, I bought an H107C, may have been my first camera quad. Had to reroute wires before I could fly it the first time, replace a motor after 3 flights, then another motor after 10 flights. And it did not fly anywhere near as well as a WLToys V202. Probably less than 15 flights and I shelved it, never to fly it again. I reviewed the Hubsan X4 Camera Plus and it was a little better, but still not really a winner.

So when the Hubsan H501S went on sale recently it piqued my interest, but being a Hubsan product I was a bit skeptical. Still, I had heard good things about the H107S, so I ordered one. I really like my MJX B2W quads and the H501S is a direct competitor. I think the B2W may be a clone of the H501S, but it comes with wifi FPV. Plus the H501S comes with 5.8ghz FPV, a monitor built into the transmitter, and dual GPS. Those are features not included with the B2W. So for close to the same price I paid for my last B2W, I got a quad with better features and slightly longer flight times. I also got an H107S-S which is the newer version of the quad with a standard transmitter. From what I have read, the standard transmitter is better than the advanced transmitter because...Continue Reading

It's been years(since 2012 since i've flown nitro with my trusty trex 700n). Now i'm back into it. I just recently finished a Synergy N7 build with 91srx and Hatori pipe. Futaba BLS272/276 servos. Vintage stuff for sure. I tried starting it today during lunch but no luck. I'm a little concerned the fuel I bought at LHS might be bad. it's 30% powermaster heli fuel but the color was clear coming out of the can. I've read online this can happen and it's still OK but who knows. I guess the $29 price might not have been a bargain after all LOL. I used an Enya #5 so I was thinking that might also be an issue so I tried an Enya #3 but at the point the battery on my dynatron had drained. Will try again tonight.

Caddx Turtle Comparison Lens Test with GoPro Lens Upgrade

A quick test of an old glass GoPro lens on the Caddx Turtle after my plastic Caddx stock lens started to pick up tiny scratches. Probably could do with tuning down the sharpness on the Caddx Turtle settings. Also getting annoyed about the spot on the camera sensor (a free gift from Caddx) which I should try to clean one day.

No props in view and Less Jello:
Tuning Betaflight 3.5.2 and getting used to feedforward so quad not locked in but no real jello with new props and tight camera screws.

Less Fish Eye:
Pleasingly, the initial result is better than the similar run with the stock lens (video below)

Many motor, prop, and battery combos tested.
I am very happy with the 3.75x3.3 and 3.5"x3.3n prop on 4-7s 350 mah.
F20 15gram, 3200kv is limited to 350 4s and 3.75" prop.
F30 21 gram, 2300kv uses 3.5" for 6-7s.
F80 38 gram, 2500kv swings 4x3.3"-6x4"
The 70s vintage 6x4" stamped 20c (cents) gives explposive performance using 900 mah 4s on a 13 ounce plane.
The 4x3.3 on 8s draws less amps than most 4s props.
Max amps of 40-60 tested on the F80 Pro with no excess heat noted. Wow!
The little motors draw up to 20 amps.

Hi Everyone
I had started a Dicussion on the topic of RC Groups Advertising and Tarriffs on RC products. We are interested in hearing from you on your experiences on Advertising past and present here on RC Groups and others sites.

I also added in How Tariffs are effecting them for those with business and also for the Individual RC Hobbiest.

Please this is for everyone to contribute, there is so much talk about these subjects and Since were all RC Hobbiest here it would be nice if you contribute so maybe we can make things better

There have been a few sarcasm comments all ready posted, which we understand will happen from some people that dont want to contribute to the Discussion and just want to make discord. Sorry for that.

But all in all this will be very interesting to discuss and here how it is effecting the RC community.

Thank you for contributing relevant information to the Discussion

Hi again

Some time ago I became a happy father of twingirls, so there was absolutely no free time for my hobby, but... Welcome to the buildlog of my new "child" - ZOHD Nano Talon.

I was seeking for smallest platform, which can handle PX4/APM based FC, because now I need to put a baby carriage in my car and there no space left for lovely Bix3

So, this is a list of goals I want to achieve:
  • ~40 minutes of flight time
  • "digital" fpv (wifibroadcast)
  • autonomous takeoff/flight/landing (arduplane)
  • make RC Transmitter optional
  • (optional) long range telemetry

And list of used (or planned to use) parts:
  • ZOHD Nano Talon 860mm Wingspan KIT
  • ZOHD Nano Talon 2204 1870KV
  • Furling32 BLHELI ESC
  • ZOHD Nano Talon 8g Digital Servo
  • APC 6040 6x4E
  • JMT Pitot Tube Airspeed meter
  • OMNIBUS F4 Pro (V3)
  • MINIAP GPS Ublox7 w compass
  • Matek Mini Power Hub PDB
  • Wireless LAN NIC module AR9271
  • RG178 Extension Cable
  • Raspberry Pi Zero
  • Raspberry Pi 3 Model B+ IR-CUT Camera
  • Raspberry Pi Zero Camera Cable 16 cm

XK Edge A430 New Motor & Prop Test Flight

Here is a link to the Video:

Wind is out of the Northeast at 3-5mph.
I finally received my replacement motor for this plane.
I'm using the RacerStar BR1306 3100kv 1S-2S Brushless Motor.
I measured the AMP draw on this plane with the original motor and prop and it was pulling 2.91 AMPS in a static position.
I can't be sure the stock ESC is rated for more than 3 AMPS, so I installed a Gemfan 4045 prop on this motor to keep the AMP draw low.
In a static position the RacerStar BR1306 3100kv motor and Gemfan 4045 prop were producing 142.4 grams of thrust @ 3.9 AMPs.
Since the motor and prop will pull approx. 25% less AMPS moving through the air that puts it below 3 AMPs @ 2.9 AMPs.
I had to move the motor forward 8mm in order for the prop to clear the fuselage as the original motor had a long plastic prop hub.
Even after moving this motor forward 8mm I was able to maintain the CG of the aircraft.
I believe this motor and prop combination will be producing approx. 20 grams more thrust than the stock motor and prop.
This was also the first time I was able to complete an FPV flight without incident and test the acrobatic capability of this plane.

Began assembling the 1903 Wright Flyer 24 static. Full kit. Rib-ticklin fun!

So far the plans are very clear and accurate.
