the new tail servo fixed the tail blowouts on the trex 450. the hologram decals look nice on the trex 500; still need to get a set for the logo. esc reprogramming on the logo solved the surging during spoolup.

i learned a new trick that takes the trial and error out of setting up rate mode on helis with boom-mounted tail servos. still need to get around to doing that for the trex 500.

1. take off as normal
2. flip to rate mode
3. use rudder trim until tail holds without drifting. for example, say
it takes 10 clicks left.
4. land
5. tape the tail bellcrank so it can't move, locking the tail pitch
slider in the trim position
6. loosen the tail servo mount so it can slide along the boom
7. re-center your trim (10 clicks right in this example). this will
move the tail servo along the boom, since the slider can't move.
8. re-tighten tail servo mount
9. set up gyro limits/endpoints as per usual, if necessary

Dropped an s9257 into the 450 to replace what I suspect was a dying hsg5084.

Alsų wik heliguard bag and more dignified Mikado blade holder for the Logo 500.

Alsų alsų wik hologram decals for the trex 500's new rotortech blades.

Using the jetibox was intuitive. I found some notes that helped.

Motor: Neu 1910H/1Y, 8 poles, 1050kv
Gearing: 212 main gear, 21T pinion, final ratio of 10.1:1

Initially, I used stick programming to set the endpoints. I was having problems getting the ESC to arm, though, so I enabled the automatic endpoint mojo for the time being, which seems to have solved that problem.

22.2V * 1050kv / 212 * 21 = theoretical max rpm around 2300 rpm.

The Mikado manual says the Logo 500 maxes out at 2100 rpm.

Steve Neu recommended 5° of timing advance.

The governor engages at around 10% on my tx, but after that, the throttle curves don't seem to matter; according to JETI, the ESC will govern between the two endpoints you set. I set them for 2000 and 2050. A tame 5 minute flight only took out about 55% of the 6s 5000 pack. "3d" governor is supposedly more reactive than "normal" governor.

I maxed out the spoolup time to 8.2 seconds. Even then, it's still pretty aggressive and the heli twists on the pad a bit.

Wired the rx and programmed the tx last night; just need to program the ESC.

first piroflips today. lost orientation after the second attempt, but was able to auto it in to the tall grass sans damage. spooled back up and shot another auto for good measure.

all in all, 8 good flights today, though the tail felt wonky during the last two flights of the 450.

in other news, sold the variant and bought a used logo 500.
