According to a archaeological paper I read, the darker green is the moat, which was dug and the soil placed in the centre to make a raised platform for guns to fire from. -

The road at the bottom is the old road, which leads around the pub to the present slipway which is the site of the chain ferry, there were houses where the pub car park now stands. there were a few houses the other side of the river a hundred years ago. -

The road leading up left to right was built after WW2 and leads across the fen to Swaffham Prior, it follows in places the old droves. -

In the distance, just beyond the lagoon, is a Limestone quarry and a site used for Coprolite mining, Dinosaur poo, used by the Victorians as fertiliser. -

Quite surprising how high the bank is above the fen land, the land was marsh until it was drained in the 17th century, the land levels have gone down, the river has stayed the same. -
